Opened in 1979 by world famous restaurateur Michael Chow. MR CHOW started in London in 1968 and continues to enjoy generations of devoted clients from art, fashion, music, and entertainment. Recently awarded the 5 Star Diamond Award by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences for its excellence, service, and cuisine this restaurant described by Givenchy as a "Precious Jewel Box" is one of the most beautiful restaurants in New York City serving high Chinese Cuisine with impeccable service.
The menu at MR CHOW is a combination of old authentic Beijing, Original Recipes, and the signature dishes such as Chicken Satay, MR CHOW Noodles, and Ma Mignon. MR CHOW also serves one of the best Beijing Ducks in the world.
The famous nightly handmade noodle show is presented in every location since the opening of London in 1968.

Due to last minute dinner plans on a Sunday evening, I chose Mr. Chows because I knew it was solid last few times I had dined there. My friend was in from London and knew I needed to be around a sophisticated yet mixed cultural crowd. It was quiet at first but then the crowd slowly strolled in and by 8pm, the dining room was almost full. Who wants to eat in an empty restaurant even if it is a Sunday evening in NYC? The menu is diverse with few traditional Chinese dishes and creative fish entrees that were delicious; particularly the sea bass. Yes it is expensive for Chinese but you are not sitting in a cafeteria type establishment. ENJOY IT!"

  • "Food was delicious, but definitely a special occasion place as it is quite pricey. Alcohol was not so good though, Bellini didn't taste like a Bellini, and for a small tiny glass, it was $20. Other than that, people was good, food was good and the place is quite loud, so not a "talking" atmosphere."

  • "Really is top notch food and service. Get the lychee martini - a couple of them. Had the Beijing Duck, best I have ever had. A lot of people have complained that the food is too pricey, I don't want to sound like a snob, but if you cannot afford it then don't go as it will cost a pretty penny, but it is quality food. If you don't mind spending the cash it is well worth it, I will be stopping by again soon for a few martini's."

  • "Was hesitant about doing Restaurant Week here as a friend said this place was extremely overrated. I've been to the TriBeCa Mr. Chow's and enjoyed it twice. So thought I'd try Midtown East. Was super crowded when we arrived and looked like a major fire hazard. We waited for a while before getting seated (even with a reservation). But by that time, it cleared a bit so that made the noise level so much better. And once the food came, we were in heaven. We liked how the staff were nice to us for doing the Restaurant Week menu, unlike other places who treated us second class for doing the deal. The food came out quick and it was all delicious. I guess the dessert could have been better. But overall - great food experience."

  • "The only reason the service got a poor review is that we had made a reservation for 8:00 PM and our table was only ready at 8:40 PM. They asked us to wait at the bar, which was overflowing with people already and did not bother to make up for the long wait. While the food is excellent, I do not believe it is fair for someone to be asked to wait for 40 minutes without any courtesy when one is paying 500 dollars for a dinner."

We were in and out in less than an hour. We may go back, but not on a weekend night. A certain degree of "class" is missing when diners are rushed through a meal and have to fight the crowd at the door to get in or out."

My only real complaint is that for the restaurant week menu, they would not let any of us order the same app or entree - all three of us were forced to each get something different. This is annoying! What ever happened to the customer always being right? Why force everyone to get something different. This is another reason to take my business to Philippe. The food is just as good and they do not have irrational rules like at Mr Chows. In the past, even when restaurant week is not in-place - Mr Chows has excellent and very unique dishes that I love and am willing to pay the high prices to get. Why talk me into getting something that I simply don't like as much? Please change these policies."

  • "After attending the one in Tribeca my bestfriend decide to checkout the one on 57th. This one was much better. I don't know if it was because of the time we made reservation. Nonetheless, the food was hot, had taste and it smell better. The service was great and didn't feel rushed. Overall it is something we can write off saying we ate there."

  • "Worst dining in a long time. They were 30 minutes late in honoring our 8 pm reservation and not the least bit apologic about it. That said the food and service was horrible. After waiting 30 they threw the menus, food etc at us until I said DO NOT RUSH US. The Mr Chow noodles were cold and pretty tasteless...the sauce over it tasted like meatsauce out of a can..not that I would know...I'm not a meat sauce or can kind of person. What tastes I walked away from was "salt" They never remembered my friends birthday after I called, mentioned it in person and had said something on request form. The lycee martini's were good..but didn't need to spend 200.00 on bad food and service just to get a decent cocktail :( Will never eat there again."

  • "went with coworkers for restaurant week. understandably this is a busy time for restaurants, but the service and general ambience were quite lacking. they packed in extra tables in order to accommodate the crowds for restaurant week, and obviously to capitalize on the additional business. the result was an uncomfortably squished table which made it difficult to relax... it was borderline claustrophobic. the wait staff did nothing to improve the atmosphere... drink orders were mixed up or missed entirely, they attempted to clear our plates before we were done... they were clearly trying to hustle us out in order to get the next table seated. on the other hand the food was excellent. would maybe try again but not during restaurant week."
