Diner Reviews
  • "Visiting area and wanted Southern cuisine. Table ordered shrimp & grits, fried boneless chicken with peach compote and catfish special over potato cakes. Side of collard greens. All excellent. Desert was ok, chocolate pie-basic with too much whipped cream. Definitely sine here if in town."

  • "Nice restaurant in the far end of town. It is very small with mostly 2 seat tables, but they can combine if needed. Table are close together, but dining remains fairly quiet. We had the Southern Spring Rolls for and appetizer. Although I would state it didn't cater to my taste buds, it was good nonetheless. The clams for in a nice sauce and delicious. Cudos on the Fried Chicken and Chicken Breast entrees. Creme Brule and Bread Putting were outstanding, whereas the Chocolate Pie was good, but nothing to rave about. Very attentative on the service side. I will go back again in the future to try other menu items."

  • "I left there feeling as if I had been turned on to a way of cooking southern food that not only satisfied all that I adore about true southern spice and flavor but I could savor every bite without compromising a healthy & low fat diet. Everything I tasted couldn't have been better. I can not wait to go back."

  • "we were looking for a great local restaurant. We found it. We loved the food. The quaint restaurant. We enjoyed all. Thank you"

  • "Enjoyed tastes of the South...shrimp and grits was excellent and gourmet meatloaf was excellent."

  • "Although this is a neighborhood gem and does have good food, it is pricey for the venue it provides and the quality of the food."

  • "Great experience. Waiter was great. Wine recommendation was awesome. Food delightfully visual and taste was to die for. From the reservation to the moment we left, it was an awesome experience. Will be back again, next time in Winston-Salem, NC."

  • "The tomato pie and mac-n-cheese are to die for! Delicious!! The outdoor (tented) patio was cozy in the rainy weather and the service was great! It was the perfect way to celebrate my birthday over lunch with friends!"

  • "My husband ordered the Pork Osso Buco served with creamy polenta and ratatouille. He enjoyed it immensely! I had the good old standby of Tomato Pie and subbed roasted root veggies for the grits. So yummy! We each took some home so we had room to share their delicious Bread Pudding, which is the best in town. Good food indeed."

  • "It was our First Time making a reservation for a meal, our First Time at Mozelle's, and our First Time to have brunch together. Even though the restaurant just opened for the day, it was great to have a reservation and not have to worry about being seated. We sat in the covered and heated patio area, which was wonderful because it had started to rain. We both eyed the candied bacon in Mozelle's Benedict. Which was amazing. The flavors, colors, and textures worked well together. The cheesy grits were also good. For brunch dessert we had the Bread Pudding and Creme Brulee with real vanilla beans used. It was an enjoyable experience and will be going back again."

  • "I have to say the food and service were top notch! I had the filet and it was unbelievably good. My husband had the trout and it was great as well. He said it was the best fish he has had in a long time. Appetizers and desserts were great. We had fried pickles and spring rolls, chocolate cream pie, and bourbon bread pudding. All were excellent. The only thing I did not like was the table. It was extremely small and there was a heater blowing directly in face the whole time. It was blowing my hair in my face and driving me crazy. We had a tiny two top in the middle of the room. My purse hanging on the back of the chair was being constantly knocked around. I just wish they had a better building."

  • "My mother and I were visiting the area for a conference and wanted to have a nice relaxing lunch from a locally owned restaurant. We found out destination on Open Table and made our reservation for 1 pm on Saturday. When we arrived Mozelle's there was a little line, but we did not have to wait. The hostess expected us and had our table ready. The server was very friendly and offer her favorite dishes. The food and excellent ! We will plan to return during out next visit and plan to sit outside on the patio."

  • "The trout and fried chicken are dependable choices. The salads are sized for a large appetite or to share. We enjoyed both our food and the ambiance. Shrimp and grits was creamier and richer than others we've enjoyed."

  • "There are not enough words to describe how awesome Mozelle's is. The food is always excellent, as well as service far superior to many other local restaurants. No matter what the occasion, Mozelle's is the answer!"

  • "We took our adult children here for dinner, and everyone enjoyed it. We got to eat outside because of the early March warm evening, which is always a treat. Husband and daughter had the fried chicken, with yummy mac and cheese and green beans. Son and I had the evening special - barbecued spare ribs which were fork tender and delicious. They came with spicy collards and mac and cheese. I subbed the mac for roasted root veggies. Then shared the chocolate torte and bread pudding desserts. Their bread pudding is the best in town."

  • "My husband had the trout which was cooked to perfection. The skin was nice and crispy and the fish was tender and juicy. I on the other hand chose the scallops. They were not what I had envisioned. The description was cornmeal crusted scallops and I expected a crisp cornmeal texture but it was bland, not crisp, and the scallops were over cooked. The couscous and carrot purée were very good but the star of the dish need work. Over all enjoyed our dinner and will return."

  • "The food was amazing...mostly common dishes, but done really, really nicely and some with a bit of a twist. I highly recommend the pimento cheese burger. It was incredible! Great service as well. My only complaint was that it was extremely hot inside the restaurant. It made for a bit of an uncomfortable experience."

  • "My husband had the trout entrée and said it was delicious. Served with white beans and other veggies. I tried the nightly special which was a chicken and pasta in a Cajun cream sauce. Quite spicy but delicious!"

  • "Loved the Fried Pickles. Shrimp and grits very good an filling. Beef stroganoff full of flavor but not a lot of beef. Filet cooked perfectly. Wait staff very friendly but not too much. We were going to a show and they were careful to get us out in time!"

  • "This is a truly wonderful little restaurant with exceptionally good nouvelle Southern cuisine. The service is attentive and it is quant and cozy. I love this place. This time was no exception and Kyle was a wonderful server."

  • "We ate lunch at Mozelle's while visiting Winston Salem to tour UNCSA. What a delicious lunch we had! Our server gave us great suggestions. The tomato pie was delicious and the grits that were served with it were perfect (and I'm picky about my grits!) I hope we have a reason to visit the area again so I can try the fried chicken!!"

  • "This was our second time to dine at Mozelle, and I was giving it a second chance. I really wanted to like it, but I always hate it when we are seated at a 2 top. I understand when its crowded, but we were told there was "no place else to put us" . There were still open tables when we left. Its a good menu, and we had a really good waiter.....but the food was really too salty. I could only eat a few bites of the scallop entree. My husbands chicken was pretty salty too."

  • "I'm a southern boy and passionate about food..this is one of the freshest and most delicious southern food restaurants I have ever eaten at!! Unreal food, service and ambiance!! If you live within 100 miles it's a must try!! I love Southern Lights and Southern Roots but you guys absolutely blow them away! Please continue adding seasonal items to your already superb menu! I cannot wait to return! Ps..this is my first ever review and I've been enjoying restaurants in NYC, Denver, LA, Atl, Charleston, Chicago, etc for the past decade...that's how much I enjoyed it. Simply perfect!"

  • "My boyfriend and I came here on February 15, and I can honestly say that the service and food were incredible. My only wish would be that they would have a larger menu. The food was true to southern, and so delicious. All of the wait staff was incredibly friendly. While it's expensive on a college budget, I would definitely recommend this to friends, and I plan to be back next time I have a special occasion!"

  • "We were in W-S to visit our daughter and take she and some friends out for a nice dinner and were not disappointed. The service, food and experience were outstanding. We lingered after our meal to visit and were never rushed to leave. Would definitely return."

  • "Mozelle's is the epitome of a great neighborhood restaurant. Great dead-of-winter dishes like osso bucco and beef stroganoff. Save room for the chocolate creme pie if it's on the menu."

  • "My husband and I took our daughter for dinner to catch up, and picked Mozelle's because it's consistently yummy. My husband and I got the house salads, daughter had the Caesar - all are very generous in size. Then my husband and I split the beef stroganoff, which is wonderful! Our daughter had the flatbread (like a pizza) and ended up taking half home. Then we shared the coconut pie, which is made in house, and always delicious."

  • "The food was great, service was excellent. I was disappointed in that I called ahead the day of the reservation and asked them to bring out a dessert for my mother and father as we were there to celebrate their birthdays. The person on the phone responded that they would be happy to do this for me. Unfortunately we had dinner and coffee and no dessert was brought out. I understand that mistakes can happen but I was more disappointed that I filled out a comment card expressing my disappointment and was not contacted by the restaurant."

  • "The restaurant is quite small; the value is excellent. If I had any complaint, it is that the portion of fish that I ordered was HUGE!! And delicious. We appreciated the relatively small choice of appetizers, entrées, and desserts. I'd rather go to a restaurant that does some things very well rather than one that does many things with mixed results. The wine list was short, adequate, and appropriate to the range of dishes on the menu."

  • "We had the Benedict, which features candied bacon, spicy collards, and chorizo gravy. YUM! And perfect winter Saturday brunch. We were skeptical about the Sake Marys, but they were great, too!"

  • "Have been here 4 times now. Best to sit outside or in covered area to the left when you walk in. Inside by the cooks stove was noisy and chef kept throwing finished pans in bins below and was loud. Was entertaining co workers and thought it wold be a nice, different place to go for them. Appetizers were great. Wine and beer selection good. The trout was the best thing ordered at the table. Two guests had filets and both orderd medium (pink inside). Both came out well done. They were sent back, however, by the time they came back to the table all of the other three people had finished their meal. We did order 4 different desserts and coffee to top off the night."

  • "I had the soup of the day (chicken and collards?) which was spicy, warm and hearty. Perfect for a cold evening. My husband had the fried chicken entree, which he loves. But the most wonderful was the cheesecake special, which was delicious. Mozelle's homemade desserts are the best, thanks to Lafayette!"

  • "Met my sister and brother-in-law for dinner and had a great time. I have had a number of different dishes there . . . but I have recently been enjoying their great selection of wonderfully prepared vegetables when I go. Paired with a serving of the WONDERFUL cheese grits they always have on the menu it affords me the ability to create a delightful somewhat indulgent meal without feeling like I have totally sabotaged my efforts to keep my weight in check. The dessert offering is quite nice as well . . . we usually make that a shared experience . . . and it is typically the chocolate cream pie!!"
