I don't mind paying higher prices for dining out when the service is top notch and the food is amazing but while the service was excellent, I felt the food was lacking. Maybe it was my food selection, but I expected my prawns to be large and tasty, but instead they were the size of 1 bite shrimp and really didn't hit me as anything unique. Later in the bar, I was still hungry and shared some Calamari with some friends and was more impressed with that than with my $30 meal. I may be back to try something else and see if it's more memorable or maybe I'll just enjoy the bar and live music and eat the appetizers!

We were staying in Laguna for a week at our timeshare and went to dine here on Saturday night. We ate in the Durban room which is cozy with a fireplace. Our waiter was attentive without hovering. I had the New York Steak which was very good. We had a few Lemon Drop Martinis before our dinner that were tasty. We had them pick us up (this is a free service if you are staying in Laguna) and that we great since we didn't have to worry about drinking and driving. I would recommend this to someone coming into town for the first time. They also will let you go upstairs to the nightclub/bar area without paying a cover charge if you dine there.

Making reservations was confusing. No one told is about the $10 deposit for a table on the roof. So when we arrived it was a bit confusing. The food was good. The pork chop was awesome and the cherries on top made it even better. The Mediterranean salad was great. We also had the steak and lobster special which was a good value. The service was poor. Not attentive. Waited a while for menus and drinks. Not very engaging. We will be back one more time to try and figure out the rooftop seating but the service might keep us away if it doesn't improve.

My family enjoyed our rooftop meal here very much. My red wine sangria was very good. My son loved that the kids menu included a filet! I also ordered a filet and both were very tasty. My friend liked her chicken with peri peri sauce but the Mac and cheese was her favorite. They have an aviary that we enjoyed as well!

We've been going to this location since it was Tortilla Flats, and it was always our favorite restaurant in Laguna Beach. We were very disappointed when it was shut down several years ago. We were delighted to see that it had finally been reopened when we visited over Valentine's Day weekend, and had an awesome dining experience at that time with an incredible view of the beach at sunset. We took another trip down last weekend and brought our best friends, and I was able to make reservations for a sunset dinner. Once again, the views were spectacular and we had an extremely enjoyable experience, with some great memories our friends won't forget. The menu is diverse and has some interesting entries. The prime fillet was incredible!

we ate on the upper level rather than the roof, and it was rather dimly lit. In fact I used the street lighting to see my menu. My husband had the peri-peri prawns which he liked - very reminiscent of the same dish we have had in Mozambique and SouthAfrica . We shared the mediterranean salad which was interesting and nice and fresh. I am glad we shared as it is a big salad. As entrees I had the durban curry which was quite tasty, not too spicy ( I did not use the side condiments as they were too much). My husband had the sea bass which was small and rather blah. Overall nice but not exceptional.

Love their new rooftop patio for alfresco dining, but Sunday 12 noon - not busy! Hmmm? Just a few tables occupied on rooftop, empty in the original protected outdoor area. Had a reservation with request for table next to glass rail. Waited politely for hostess to help, she actually allowed 2 couples to simply brush past us and they nabbed only open tables on the rail without reservations. Finally seated at a middle table, half in sun - very hot, asked if an unused shade umbrella could be moved from 4 feet away. Request totally ignored...twice. Moved ourselves after adjacent table left. Guess that was frowned upon. Another 10-12 min past, again had to ask for a server for order! Attitude remained careless, food uninspired. Too bad.

We were hoping our reservation would be where we could hear the entertainment. It wasn't. We ate on the ground level outside which was pleasant but we were hoping to hear the music. We couldn't. The dishes are huge and a e fortunately split the chicken which was a bit spicy. Bob bottom line it was an expensive meal which would have been worth it if we'd could catch the entertainment, but without it it was not worth the money

We always bring our "out of town" guests here, for dinner .... Because the food is consistently delicious!!! We love the Chicken Livers hors d'oeuvre .... The Prawns Peri Peri (peri peri sauce on the side) are outstanding. All their curry dishes are wonderful. In fact, we have never had a bad meal here ... And many of our friends consider themselves as "foodies"! The restaurant is large enough to accommodate any kind of occasion. Downstairs, for a quieter, more romantic atmosphere; Upstairs, for a lively Bar scene & more casual atmosphere .... And the roof patio for outdoor view dining. Enjoy!!!

A great restaurant with 3 different levels to choose from, all with the same menu. The bottom floor for a quiet, secluded romantic dinning experience. The 2nd level, Shebeen lounge; I think the best level. Great view, live music & comfortable seating, not too private dinning because of the open floor plan. A little bit of a bar scene attitude, but classy and vibrant, and not a bit trashy. Can do large parties, DON'T do open tab. 3rd level, the roof top,Probably the new Hot spot in Laguna. Usually required a $50 table reservation fee. Great view, very tight table settings, a bit noise, but fun! Many couples and small groups of 4-6 parties. Great menu, be adventurous and try something outside your comfort zone. You won't be disappointed !

Primarily South African food, although there are a few dishes on the menu with Portuguese/Mozambique inspiration. Beautifully presented and tasty (with Indian or Malay influences, as it is in South Africa). Efficient, friendly service. Don't miss the samoosas for an appetizer. They're even better than Indian samosas. The excellent, minty Portuguese salad is a meal in itself as a large portion; get the small portion if you also want to eat a main course. Even though Mozambique is known for its seafood, and even though it's somewhat unheralded on the menu, their 1/2 chicken main dish is one of the best chicken dishes in Orange County. I have no idea what their desserts are like, because I've never had room for them every time I've been here.

This was recommended by two friends as a place we should try while in Laguna and it didn't disappoint. We thought the food was amazing. Although the steaks were recommened, we tried the grilled Halibut and the Sea bass and both were delicious. We sat upstairs by the band and although it may be a little loud for some, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the music! It was an overall great experience and we plan to return.

I was impressed by the decor more than anything. They have a good view of the ocean from the second and, especially, the third floor (rooftop). However, the food is just...food. It's not anything special. They do have some very unique drinks though. So, I would definitely say try the drinks and choose the place to hang out with friends for snacks and a chat over drinks.

My husband and I were there for our wedding anniversary with our kids. Our food were ok, but when we got our food, the food server came over and asked us if we ordered garlic fries. If we told him "no" once, he should have asked our waitress to check our food order, but another food server came over and asked us again... we said "no" AGAIN. Our waitress (Erin) did not come over and apologize for interrupting our dining. She came to check on us only once. We go to "Mozambique Peri Peri" at least twice a month and we love the food and workers there. It was our first time at Mozambique Restaurant and we are very sad to have poor experience there.
