  • "We enjoyed this restaurant for a second time on Saturday night. Our meals were delicious, and our service was great. Our only complaint was with the hostesses. When we first arrived they told us we could have a table on the roof top and told us to walk up, then we told there were no tables available up there, so they said to go to the garden patio. The restaurant is so big, that we did not know where we were going. We ended up at the Sheeban Bar area, not really knowing where we were. We felt the hostesses should have done their job, and seated us at a table, not just let us wander around. It was very unprofessional, and not the first impression you want your guests to have. That aside, the service, food and ambiance was fantastic."

  • "I heard they had the top open so I made the reservation. Seems when you make the reservation through Open Table you can't specify roof top. So we had to go up to the rooftop and see the roof top host for a table. Luckily it wasn't too crowded and we were seated right away. Food was good, a bit pricey, and the service was ok. Our server seemed to rather talk to her co-worker than check on her customers. I had to interrupt her twice to get a refill on my drink and to order our entrees. All in all a god place. Great Sunset for the roof top."

  • "Ordered salmon and it was a huge portion. Waitress graciously substituted spinach for the couscous. Our 12 year old devoured a petite filet and mashed potatoes he ordered from the kids menu for a more than reasonable price of $9. Nice selection of cocktails. Ate dinner on the rooftop, whereas we usually dine inside. No June Gloom and nobody at our table got cold. Beautiful evening. Always stop in the courtyard to see what birds are in the cage. Friendly, helpful staff."

  • "This place sucked! Everything is spicy, the prices are ridiculously high. Was told they have no kids menu which is a joke. Servers push alcohol on you as if I were buying a used car. I guess they are taught to be salespeople. They recommend food for you and then push too much food on you. It was a joke."

  • "We went for our friends 15 year Anniversary, they used to live in Irvine and now live in Ohio. They were married in Laguna Beach and wanted to come back to the area to celebrate. We had 8 people at a table on the upper deck and it was perfect! Kelly was our waitress and she was really great and made us all feel at home. The food was excellent and view was amazing!"

  • "We had the seafood curry and peri-peri prawns, both excellent. The seating was fun on the roof, decent view of the ocean across PCH. But then at the stroke of 6:00pm, the busboys took all the umbrellas down leaving us to broil in the sun for an hour as the sun is still high June at that time. Asked the busboy to leave it up and he said no, his manager makes them take down all umbrellas everyday at 6:00. Asked to see the manager, he never came. Cooper was our first waiter and was very good. Kirsten was supposed to take over but never delivered our food, never asked about anything until someone else had helped us, and even came up once and asked, "so how's everything?" With two empty iced tea glasses suiting there. Could be better!"

  • "the roof top seating was the ticket at sunset. the heaters were on, and the laguna skyline was literally picture perfect. drinks were top notch and the food was exceptional with each dish well prepared with great attention to detail. i am not big red meat eater, but my wife's steak was absolutely exceptional. melt in your mouth delicious. Mozambique will not disappoint. enjoy!"

  • "I am a dog lover!!!! Not real enthusiastic about dogs dining on the indoor or outdoor patios!!! I mean really!!! Good food, great location. We came to sit on the new outdoor deck but was too full. Gonna try again for brunch,but no dogs please!!!"

  • "This was the 2nd time I have been here and I am absolutely hooked. We ordered the macaroni and cheese, fries, filet mignon, and the flourless cake. The food was incredible, unique, and absolutely delicious. Our waiter Adrian definitely made the experience even better. He was genuinely nice, attentive, hilarious, and all-around awesome. We definitely will request him next time we come. "

  • "I made the reservation for 6 a week in advance. 3 days before I added a 7th person thru a phone call. They said no problem. I asked for the upstairs. They said most likely. When we got there I was told that if I wanted upstairs I should have paid a $100 non-refundable table hold. I was also sent back to the middle level. They said I had a table on the bottom floor. Eventually they put us on the mid-level in the corner. The sun was in my daughter's eyes for 45 min. They refused to lower the blind although 4 other windows had blinds lowered. The waitress was totally disconnected. The filets were ordered medium and came back rare. One tasted like propane, neither tasted like any special seasoning. The waitress never came back to check on us."

  • "Staff is a bit socially awkward, from the hostess to the bus boys. Food was good, but overpriced for what you get. Location is great, and what made this experience great was the company I was with, not the restaurant. Also, when you want your leftovers to-go, make sure they put everything in the to-go box. It was too late for me when we noticed that the mashed potatoes and veggies (which my boyfriend did not touch during dinner) were not in the box with the steak...I mean come on, really? And they gave me my friend's leftovers, not mine."

  • "I relocated to the US from South Africa 17 years ago and recently moved to Southern California. Drove by Mozambique Restaurant and had to try it. The food was really authentic, I had the Peri-Peri Chicken livers and the Durban Curry, what a blast from the past! I will be back and wold recommend them for those who want to try something a little different or those who are nostalgic like me :)"

  • "Food here has gone downhill. Chicken liver peri-peri... onions were pan-wilted but not caramelized. Pork chop was dry. Peri-peri sauce insipid. One can eat out with better quality for the same money in Laguna Beach and a number of neighboring towns. I have eaten here a number of times but I think the kitchen in this place has lost its mojo."

  • "Goregous view, delicious food, live music, can I say any more? Absolutely the best place in town for cuisine. Asked for a reservation and I was given (in my opinion) the best table in the whole place. Stunning view of the ocean, with outdoor heaters. They even have a car that will come to your hotel and take you back. Menu is outstanding. I had the lobster; my fiance, had the steak. Both were delicious. We also tried the Tuna. AWESOME! A good dessert choice is their bread pudding."

  • "First time here and we were seated on the rooftop dining area that boasted a spectacular view in every direction. Our waitress was friendly and checked in on us often and the food was delicious, my only concern was that it took so long for the food to arrive, we were parked in the 1 hour only parking along PCH and by the time the food arrived we had to eat really fast to avoid getting a parking ticket. So other than that it was a wonderful lunch and we would like to try this place again, however next time we will valet park."

  • "We called and made a reservation. When we showed up on time, we were given a choice of bar seating height tables next to the bar upstairs. Entertainment in the lounge had started, not 50 ft. from our table. This place was recommended a couple times as romantic? No way. Waitress was attentive, but steak was mediocre at best - bone in ribeye, and the seafood curry was just ok. Salad and mamosas ahead of dinner were very good. Overall the upstairs dining experience was very distracting and noisy, which would have been tolerated if the food was top notch, and it was far from that."

  • "We planned a romantic dinner for our anniversary and wanted to try something different. The problems started with calling ahead to say it was our anniversary and requesting a 'nice' table and all night there was not a single 'happy anniversary' from any of the staff and we sat near the aisle where the staff walk out of the kitchen all night. We both ordered the filet mignon medium and one came out very rare (bleeding) and the other was dried out and over cooked. We got attitude from the server when we complained, but it was not up to expectations for a $35 filet. The chef or cook who brought out the replacement steaks gave an attitude as well. We will recommend somewhere else to anyone who asks about this restaurant."

  • "We had the 3 small plates and appetizers which was plenty of food for the two of us. The Roti wraps are very large and flavorful, having the lamb curry. Also had the chicken livers and scampi. The Peri-Peri sauce with the first two added a very nice spice to the dishes. The rice was cooked right and had either turmeric or mild curry powder in it. One thing to do if you go with the small plates is ask for them to be brought out one at a time, for being hit with three dishes at once is not pleasant and the food gets cold."
