Diner Reviews
  • "Although the kitchen was slow, the waitress was great. It was a gorgeous day and we were in no hurry so the really drawn out lunch didn't bother us. Their mac 'n' cheese was amazing -- very creamy and cheesy, with the right balance of flavors."

  • "Thanks to Chad our waiter, we had a lovely dinner last night seated in the main dining room patio. Mozambique's ambiance always feels like a vacation. Beet salad, peri prawns, filet and Durban curry. Can't really go wrong ordering here with all the great spices they use."

  • "We were hoping our reservation would be where we could hear the entertainment. It wasn't. We ate on the ground level outside which was pleasant but we were hoping to hear the music. We couldn't. The dishes are huge and a e fortunately split the chicken which was a bit spicy. Bob bottom line it was an expensive meal which would have been worth it if we'd could catch the entertainment, but without it it was not worth the money"

  • "The drinks were great. The food was very average. Nice view from the rooftop however first come first serve or you must pay $50 to reserve a table."

  • "We always bring our "out of town" guests here, for dinner .... Because the food is consistently delicious!!! We love the Chicken Livers hors d'oeuvre .... The Prawns Peri Peri (peri peri sauce on the side) are outstanding. All their curry dishes are wonderful. In fact, we have never had a bad meal here ... And many of our friends consider themselves as "foodies"! The restaurant is large enough to accommodate any kind of occasion. Downstairs, for a quieter, more romantic atmosphere; Upstairs, for a lively Bar scene & more casual atmosphere .... And the roof patio for outdoor view dining. Enjoy!!!"

  • "My husband & I celebrated our 30th Anniversary and this was the perfect setting. The service was great, Chad took care of us and was very attentive. The food was amazing, I have the Chilean Sea Bass and my husband had the Steak. The sea bass melted in your mouth and the steak tasted delicious! Would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "Top floor view outstanding. Unfortunately served wrong food, took extra time to correct, still charged for all food."

  • "A great restaurant with 3 different levels to choose from, all with the same menu. The bottom floor for a quiet, secluded romantic dinning experience. The 2nd level, Shebeen lounge; I think the best level. Great view, live music & comfortable seating, not too private dinning because of the open floor plan. A little bit of a bar scene attitude, but classy and vibrant, and not a bit trashy. Can do large parties, DON'T do open tab. 3rd level, the roof top,Probably the new Hot spot in Laguna. Usually required a $50 table reservation fee. Great view, very tight table settings, a bit noise, but fun! Many couples and small groups of 4-6 parties. Great menu, be adventurous and try something outside your comfort zone. You won't be disappointed !"

  • "Primarily South African food, although there are a few dishes on the menu with Portuguese/Mozambique inspiration. Beautifully presented and tasty (with Indian or Malay influences, as it is in South Africa). Efficient, friendly service. Don't miss the samoosas for an appetizer. They're even better than Indian samosas. The excellent, minty Portuguese salad is a meal in itself as a large portion; get the small portion if you also want to eat a main course. Even though Mozambique is known for its seafood, and even though it's somewhat unheralded on the menu, their 1/2 chicken main dish is one of the best chicken dishes in Orange County. I have no idea what their desserts are like, because I've never had room for them every time I've been here."

  • "We have eaten at Mozambique for years. This was the most unorganized I have ever seen them. They had lost our Open Table reservation, the service was incredibly slow, and the food was just so-so. Come on Mozambique - what happened!? Pull it together and get back to your usual superstar status."

  • "This was recommended by two friends as a place we should try while in Laguna and it didn't disappoint. We thought the food was amazing. Although the steaks were recommened, we tried the grilled Halibut and the Sea bass and both were delicious. We sat upstairs by the band and although it may be a little loud for some, we enjoyed the atmosphere and the music! It was an overall great experience and we plan to return."

  • "I was impressed by the decor more than anything. They have a good view of the ocean from the second and, especially, the third floor (rooftop). However, the food is just...food. It's not anything special. They do have some very unique drinks though. So, I would definitely say try the drinks and choose the place to hang out with friends for snacks and a chat over drinks."

  • "Mozambique is a wonderful dining experience. This is our top choice for a pre- Pageant of the Masters dinner. The food is wonderful, sumptuous, and always well presented."

  • "Three of the four people at our table ordered seafood (tuna, salmon, shrimp) and the other person ordered the lamb chops. We all thought it was great. Our table was available immediately and our server was very attentive. We enjoyed our experience a lot."

  • "Average food though a bit over-priced. Waiter was forgetful and needed better service manners. Ambience inside felt like we were at a theme park. Requested outside when reservation was made then told it was a 90minute wait when I got there?"
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "Good food! We like the Seafood Curry and the Pork Chop Maputo platter. We like the downstairs dining room - it is quiet and a pleasant place for dinner."

  • "My husband and I were there for our wedding anniversary with our kids. Our food were ok, but when we got our food, the food server came over and asked us if we ordered garlic fries. If we told him "no" once, he should have asked our waitress to check our food order, but another food server came over and asked us again... we said "no" AGAIN. Our waitress (Erin) did not come over and apologize for interrupting our dining. She came to check on us only once. We go to "Mozambique Peri Peri" at least twice a month and we love the food and workers there. It was our first time at Mozambique Restaurant and we are very sad to have poor experience there."

  • "Maybe it was an exception but the server had no interest in serving us on the patio. Don't know why. Awful choice for taking my gf for her birthday."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely dinner with exceptional service, as we celebrated our anniversary. The ambience was romantic and quiet, as we asked to be seated outdoors. We are plant-based, but the menu contained a variety of options for us to dine on and the staff was more than willing to accommodate our choices. It was a lovely evening and we look forward to returning for a Sunday Brunch, which we have heard so much about."

  • "Loved the rooftop dining, the view is very nice. Our food was good and the portions were very nice size. Our server was very nice and helpful. We will definitely go back and try more dishes when we return to California."

  • "Beautiful views of Pacific Ocean and laguna beach. Food with lots of flavor and spice. Great ambience."

  • "We always have great food. Everything on the menu is great. You can't go wrong with any of their desserts either. The service is always attentive and friendly. Outside of the restaurant, the parting is terrible. There is valet, but I try to avoid valets now since I had a very costly experience with one somewhere else. Never again."

  • "We enjoy dinner on the back patio, with the Durbin and vegetable curry our favorites! Ask for the grilled calamari vs the fried for a tasty starter."
    Dined on 7/26/2014
  • "For the first time we sat in the downstairs dining room and we loved it, it was very romantic with the fireplace and ambiance. The Mediterranean salad was so fresh and even more delicious with the addition of the grilled shrimp. My husband had the ribeye steak which was the absolute best and better than any high end steakhouse."

  • "The peri peri shrimp and whole California lobster were magnificent! The servings were generous and absolutely delicious."
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "Service was fair. Food was average. Calamari appetizer was tough and no one in party of four ate more than one piece except me. Valet parking $6. Really?"
    Dined on 7/20/2014
  • "This was our first visit and we will definitely be back! Love the variety of food on the menu and that most entrees come in two sizes! The seafood curry was wonderful! The mac & cheese is sinfully delicious! Nice wine list. Service was good! We sat in the lounge area so we could have a view -- a bit loud. If you want something quieter, the main restaurant would be a better choice. Definitely recommend!"

  • "These folks could not have been more accommodating. What a fun evening. Great food and music."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "The restaurant is loud and too dark. My filet was cold when served with little flavor although my guests hambuger was good. The service was rushed but friendly. It is not a place I would return to or recommend."

  • "The food was fresh and delicious! Our waitress was delightful, and the fresh fish was cooked perfectly! Thank you!"

  • "We enjoyed this restaurant for a second time on Saturday night. Our meals were delicious, and our service was great. Our only complaint was with the hostesses. When we first arrived they told us we could have a table on the roof top and told us to walk up, then we told there were no tables available up there, so they said to go to the garden patio. The restaurant is so big, that we did not know where we were going. We ended up at the Sheeban Bar area, not really knowing where we were. We felt the hostesses should have done their job, and seated us at a table, not just let us wander around. It was very unprofessional, and not the first impression you want your guests to have. That aside, the service, food and ambiance was fantastic."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "I heard they had the top open so I made the reservation. Seems when you make the reservation through Open Table you can't specify roof top. So we had to go up to the rooftop and see the roof top host for a table. Luckily it wasn't too crowded and we were seated right away. Food was good, a bit pricey, and the service was ok. Our server seemed to rather talk to her co-worker than check on her customers. I had to interrupt her twice to get a refill on my drink and to order our entrees. All in all a god place. Great Sunset for the roof top."

  • "We hadn't been to Mozambique in quite a while. We were not disappointed. Got a table rooftop with a great view of the Pacific. Great food, great view. You can't beat that."

  • "Ordered salmon and it was a huge portion. Waitress graciously substituted spinach for the couscous. Our 12 year old devoured a petite filet and mashed potatoes he ordered from the kids menu for a more than reasonable price of $9. Nice selection of cocktails. Ate dinner on the rooftop, whereas we usually dine inside. No June Gloom and nobody at our table got cold. Beautiful evening. Always stop in the courtyard to see what birds are in the cage. Friendly, helpful staff."

  • "Food was amazing and the decor was pseudo-Spanish, pseudo-African. It was a nice fusion. The staff was very pleasant and service was great."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "This place sucked! Everything is spicy, the prices are ridiculously high. Was told they have no kids menu which is a joke. Servers push alcohol on you as if I were buying a used car. I guess they are taught to be salespeople. They recommend food for you and then push too much food on you. It was a joke."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "They offer shuttle service and it is great. Great place, great service and more."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Great patios, just be sure to ask for the top 3rd floor level, or 2nd floor level, the bottom level patio while private kinda missed the point of a beach patio."

  • "We went for our friends 15 year Anniversary, they used to live in Irvine and now live in Ohio. They were married in Laguna Beach and wanted to come back to the area to celebrate. We had 8 people at a table on the upper deck and it was perfect! Kelly was our waitress and she was really great and made us all feel at home. The food was excellent and view was amazing!"

  • "Celebrated our daughters college graduation on the rooftop with cocktails. Watched the sunset over Laguna. Then moved to the dining room downstairs for a great dinner. All was fabulous! "
