The food was really authentic, I had the Peri-Peri Chicken livers and the Durban Curry, what a blast from the past! I will be back and wold recommend them for those who want to try something a little different or those who are nostalgic like me :)"

  • "Food here has gone downhill. Chicken liver peri-peri... onions were pan-wilted but not caramelized. Pork chop was dry. Peri-peri sauce insipid. One can eat out with better quality for the same money in Laguna Beach and a number of neighboring towns. I have eaten here a number of times but I think the kitchen in this place has lost its mojo."

  • "Goregous view, delicious food, live music, can I say any more? Absolutely the best place in town for cuisine. Asked for a reservation and I was given (in my opinion) the best table in the whole place. Stunning view of the ocean, with outdoor heaters. They even have a car that will come to your hotel and take you back. Menu is outstanding. I had the lobster; my fiance, had the steak. Both were delicious. We also tried the Tuna. AWESOME! A good dessert choice is their bread pudding."

  • "First time here and we were seated on the rooftop dining area that boasted a spectacular view in every direction. Our waitress was friendly and checked in on us often and the food was delicious, my only concern was that it took so long for the food to arrive, we were parked in the 1 hour only parking along PCH and by the time the food arrived we had to eat really fast to avoid getting a parking ticket. So other than that it was a wonderful lunch and we would like to try this place again, however next time we will valet park."

  • "This restaurant had opportunities, however, their lunch time dining is only on the rooftop and they don't seem to accomidate for the cold windy weather. There seems to be no indoor seating. We ended up leaving with our meals half eaten due to the cold. Not a pleasent experience."

  • "We called and made a reservation. When we showed up on time, we were given a choice of bar seating height tables next to the bar upstairs. Entertainment in the lounge had started, not 50 ft. from our table. This place was recommended a couple times as romantic? No way. Waitress was attentive, but steak was mediocre at best - bone in ribeye, and the seafood curry was just ok. Salad and mamosas ahead of dinner were very good. Overall the upstairs dining experience was very distracting and noisy, which would have been tolerated if the food was top notch, and it was far from that."

  • "We planned a romantic dinner for our anniversary and wanted to try something different. The problems started with calling ahead to say it was our anniversary and requesting a 'nice' table and all night there was not a single 'happy anniversary' from any of the staff and we sat near the aisle where the staff walk out of the kitchen all night. We both ordered the filet mignon medium and one came out very rare (bleeding) and the other was dried out and over cooked. We got attitude from the server when we complained, but it was not up to expectations for a $35 filet. The chef or cook who brought out the replacement steaks gave an attitude as well. We will recommend somewhere else to anyone who asks about this restaurant."

  • "We had the 3 small plates and appetizers which was plenty of food for the two of us. The Roti wraps are very large and flavorful, having the lamb curry. Also had the chicken livers and scampi. The Peri-Peri sauce with the first two added a very nice spice to the dishes. The rice was cooked right and had either turmeric or mild curry powder in it. One thing to do if you go with the small plates is ask for them to be brought out one at a time, for being hit with three dishes at once is not pleasant and the food gets cold."

  • "Restaurant was highly recommended, took out of towns guests. Very noisy dining room, upstairs music bled through. Crying babies (who brings babies to a noisy restaurant on a Sunday evening, but then it is Laguna and EVERYONE is more special!). Hard to hold a conversation without shouting. Ordered a mixed grill entree, chicken stix overcooked and dry, pork chop overcooked and dry, sausage ok. Cole slaw with pineapple interesting but I think it was canned pineapple. Black eyed peas so spicy were inedible. Not going back."

  • "I have always been a huge fan of Mozambique, but after my experience last Saturday I will never return again. We were treated very rudely by the staff, including by a security person who physically shoved me, and a power-hungry door person. Too bad, because their food and entertainment are usually stellar. Might be a good idea to monitor the bar staff and their interactions with customers, because they are sorely lacking. My friend and I were accused of being sneaky and then kicked out, after we each spent over $100 on our meal. Rather than hear the whole story, this door person decided that he'd rather jump to conclusions. Sad as I will be telling all of my friends and colleagues about this experience and encouraging them not to eat here."

  • "My fiancee and I have been dining at Mozambique on special occasions for the past four years and every single time has been a real pleasure (with the exception of one Valentine's day, but that was only due to the fixed menu missing a favorite side dish of ours). The staff is always very friendly and helpful and the service is consistently excellent. On some occasions I have flowers delivered in advance (big thank you to Laguna Florist) and the staff is always sure to have them waiting at the table. The food at Mozambique is amazing as well. I highly recommend the Filet Mignon which is always perfect. All in all, I can't say enough great things about Mozambique and would highly recommend it to anyone. Kris H."

  • "A friend told us about this place for our Valentines dinner. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere was really nice. Three levels. Fancy, to fun, to casual up top on the roof. The dessert, however, was not good. I could make better desserts out of a box. The lobster was delicious. Along with the peri peri shrimp scampi. I would definitely go back to experience dinner on the rooftop. The waiter had excellent customer service. We weren't in a hurry but our dinner did arrive later than normal and he comped us two drinks without us even saying anything."

It seemed like there were many couples celebrating valentines early and the crowd was a bit older than I've been used to. The music wasn't as great as I remember it being, but there were people dancing. I do enjoy going there but this time it wasn't that great."

  • "First time back for dining after refurbishment.. We were a party of four seated in what used to be the outside bar, but now has a cover over it. Still essentially a bar. We hoped for a more formal dining room with opportunity for quiet dining. Service was very slow. 20 minutes before appetizer order was taken. 30 minutes more before dinner order taken. Waitress had manners of a teenager. ("You guys") (we are seniors.) After the first hour, a party of 30 20+ year olds descended on the room, all talking at the tops of their voices. We could not hear each other at all. We left after 30 minutes, meals unfinished. Mozambique needs to decide whether they want diners or party people. Next time, somewhere else."

  • "Mozambique was enjoyable - the use of real candles romantic; the shrimp dish excellent. As for suggestions, I offer my thoughts (I cook and entertain, run a gourmet club & have written restaurant reviews). I'd suggest hosts slow down as guests arrive to a nicer pace. Waiters also ought to walk up and introduce themselves right away. Offer ground pepper with salads and check throughout the meal for additional needs. Another suggestion, no sauce on top of fish or, explain upfront so guests know in advance. Sauce takes away from an entrée. It's passé. The prices are high enough and the appeal of this place lends itself to the expectation of top quality service/food - attention to detail is critical."
