Diner Reviews
  • "On our first visit to this eclectic restaurant we found the creative menus had our mouth watering. Starting with the lobster bisque (out of this world) and enjoyed simple, light and crisp salad. We split the entre , their special of the day, Bronzino. It was a generous portion and delicious! Next time we would pass on dessert even though they highly recommended the almond cake, which we found a bit drab. Coffee was fresh, smooth ans delist! Will return to try the other items! "

  • "We celebrated my mom's birthday at Mosaic and had a wonderful dinner. The staff easily accommodated our various needs - no dairy, no gluten, kid version for a six year-old.... And the menu was so well composed it was hard to choose. Every dish was delicious, from mussels, to squash soup to quail sausage. My husband's branzino special was exceptional. Wines by the glass were excellent. Overall a wonderful evening and we would happily go back again. "

  • "Great place for a special occasion or dinner if your looking for something different to eat, variety of meals to choose from. I would recommend it!"

  • "Both diners wanted to order the special Kobe beef item but the steak was much too large for our appetites and since we were going to a concert after the restaurant, we could not take food home. Waiter suggested that we share the dish giving each of us 6 oz. of beef. No humongous plate sharing charge was added to the bill. Super dish and great service. "

  • "There is just nothing special about this place. Service was good but didn't make you feel special. Food was Ok, food presentation looked like it was just put on a plate without concern for appearance but no comparable to many other Sarasota restaurants such as Café Europe, Café Bijou Mighels etc. Reserved for a window seat, ended up in a closed room upstairs. Quality/price ratio not worth it. We eat in restaurants 2 to 3 times a week and given the many better options in Sarasota, we will not return here."

  • "I have been here at least five times and it is consistently wonderful. Mozaic rises above the many mediocre restaurants of this area with superior food and an attitude to please... and they do"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant, which is located in the Main Street area of Sarasota. Parking is difficult, but there is a free public parking garage a block or two away. We had made reservations, but called and came earlier and were welcomed warmly. The wait staff is attentive but not obtrusive. The wine list for wine by the glass has an average number of choices at prices that will not surprise the guest. The food is "Mediterranean" but originally prepared with very good results. We both enjoyed our entrees. Beforehand, we had soups; both were quite nice. Dessert was rich with appropriately small portions. Cappuccino was wonderful but kept us awake most of the night. Overall: highly recommend."

  • "My meal was fabulous from the beginning to the end!! Highly suggest the trio sampler the first time you go, great way to taste a little of the top three entrees. I will definately be going back again!!"

  • "We have been to many restaurants in Sarasota and been fairly disappointed in the quality of service and food. We made these reservations with some trepidation at trying another new restaurant, especially with friends joining us. We were very pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent, they even accommodated us by seating us early. The staff was knowledgeable and very courteous. The food was fantastic. Everyone tried different dishes, short ribs, lamb rack, lentils, and mussels, and all were enjoyed, even though a couple were a little spicy for us. We will definitely return to this restaurant and recommend it to others."

  • "We were seated promptly and our waiters were very friendly and helpful. So many delicious looking items - hard to choose just one. As usual your soups are delicious and unusual."

  • "My wife and I each had an excellent dinner at Mozaic. The menu is not extensive but they have some very interesting selections, particularly among the appetizers. My wife had fish and I had duck. Both were well-prepared and very attractively plated. The service was a bit spotty, but still sincere and well-intended. We will certainly return."

  • "We were visiting from DC, home to many good restaurants. We chose Mozaic based on its eclectic menu. We were not disappointed. The dishes were varied and delicious. The smoked quail with chorizo was an excellent starter. We shared the "undecided trio" of duck, lamb, and shrimp risotto. All of them were super. The waiter recommended a Meomi Pinot Noir that pulled everything together. We were given a very nice "anniversary" dessert. The noise level is a bit high, but it was a Friday night. The only change I would recommend is to get better coffee. Service was delightful. We look forward to visiting Mozaic again next year."

  • "We had a very nice meal. The soups were a definite highlight. I think the wait staff tried to hard and were at the table too often and we felt pushed even though the place was nearly empty. The staff stood together near the door and talked, which happened to be right next to our table."

  • "We had dinner outside, as we were visiting from Michigan. We were meeting up with a friend who lives in Vietnam, however, so she thought it was chilly. Our server lept to the rescue and moved over an outside heater. We had a delicious dinner, my husband and I enjoyed the warmth, and our friend was warmed as well by the heater at her back. Thanks!"

  • "Food was tasty. Menu less interesting and adventurous than expected. Major problem is if one is seated upstairs, there is a terribly dull ambiance. The rooms look totally uninteresting, and feel like they have just set some tables and chairs upstairs."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Steak was overcooked and it didn't come with the sides that were mentioned on the menu. Salad was under dressed and no truffles for dessert. The waiter was very accommodating though. We will go back but not for quite a while."

  • "We hoped, since Mozaic was right around the corner from the Sarasota Opera House, they would "cater" the Opera crowd. The food was wonderful. The service was sub par. The back waiter was very attentive, the female server we had was very distracted and non attentive. She even dropped our check as she was walking past the table without stopping or talking to us at all. This type of service I might expect from a diner atmosphere not from Mozaic. She was also very unfamiliar with the menu and had no understanding of gluten free. Will definitely try again because of the food and location."

  • "We had dinner at Mozaic prior to going to the opera and explained that we needed to dine in plety of time to go to the theater. The restaurant made sure we were served promptly but totally professionally. We never felt hurried but were never worried about time. The food was as perfectly prepared as it always is. The lobster bisque was rich and velvety and with a perfect combination of spices. The escargot were fresh and tender with the richest sauce imaginable. We both had grilled Atlantic Salmon (one rare and one well done) both of which were cooked to perfection and accompanied by really interesting vegetables. This restaurant is perfect for a quick dine before the theater or for a really elegant evening of fine dinning."

  • "However the duck ordered cooked at the same temperature came out radically different. One was a perfect medium (as ordered), the other was well done. Also, the poor table next to us had to send their food back to the kitchen 3 times because of a nightshade sensitivity that the kitchen did not accommodate and the wait staff did not check the plates before delivering. Overall excellent food, just take it as it is on the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "My husband and I went to Mozaic before the theatre one recent week night. We didn't like the food -- each course of our entrees tasted alike and were over-seasoned, or the ambiance -- bland painted walls covered with mediocre paintings. Will not be going back."

  • "we had to return to Mozaic to repeat the dinner we had just one week before- the the estofada- short ribs. This is one of Sarasota's best in a small city that doesn't have enough gourmet food."

  • "When I say 'find', I mean it literally. If you didn't know it was there, you could easily walk right past it. We, luckily, were seated on the 2nd floor - very nice cozy dining area. I think if you sit near the bar, the experience and noise level would be different from my review. The service was excellent, attentive and friendly. Since many people dine there before going to the opera or theater, they even asked if we had a time restraint , which I thought was very nice of them. Both my husbands dish and mine were excellent. Entree prices varied, so depending on what you order, it could get pricey - luckily, both of ours was reasonably priced. Although we didn't order dessert, the menu had many interesting and appetizing choices."

  • "I had the trio of duck, lamb and shrimp risotto and a starter course of soup. All were absolutely fantastic and preparation of the meats was as close to perfect as one can get. Very impressed. I came into work on Monday talking about the meal."

  • "We are just visiting in Sarasota and needed a place to have dinner before the opera. The reviews of Mozaic were quite good so we tried it. We both really liked our food, soups for appetizer, I had a fish special branzini that was quite delicious. If we lived in Sarasota this is definitely a restaurant we would return to."

  • "In our opinion, this is one of the better restaurants in Sarasota. An extremely gracious hostess, excellent food ( soup, salad, salmon, short ribs) and an excellent waiter. All added up to a very enjoyable meal."

  • "Every dish we had at Mozaic was terrific, from the exceptional hubbard squash soup to the 7 vegetable couscous. The service was excellent, and we enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience. We will certainly return when we next visit Sarasota."

  • "Two pre-opera dinners two years apart and we were not disappointed. We booked for 6 pm and the place was empty. It was packed by 7:30 which confirms this is a great place."

  • "The dining at Mozaic was pleasant from start to finish. The art work on the walls was interesting to look at. The service was prompt and attentive throughout the meal. Our food was delicious and carefully prepared. Attention to flavor was paramount - every morsel was loaded with delicious tastes and inspired combinations of ingredients. The rack of lamb was cooked to our preference, tender, and delicious. The risotto was prepared to perfection - not crunchy or overdone. Wine choices by the glass were extensive, and the selections were high quality. The menu, without being too long, offers many choices for a variety of tastes. I highly recommend Mozaic to people who enjoy wonderful food."

  • "We took a close friend and his wife to dinner to celebrate his birthday. He is a gourmet chief who, like us, really appreciates fine dining. The meals did not disappoint and even, do I dare say, amazed us. Such a creative force in food world is hard to find in any major city, but to find it in Sarasota was a pleasant surprise. We highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to our next visit."

  • "It was a very busy Saturday night, and the initial impression was that the restaurant was a little overwhelmed by the crowds coming in (lots of waiters running in and out of the kitchen). But once we got settled, it was fine: really creative menu, knowledgeable waiter; good wine list."

  • "Excellent fine dining. We have been there many times and the food and wines are always very consistent. Wine list offers a great variety and they know their wines! I had the Trio- a dish for the undecided as they call it since it brings a combination of duck breast, lamb chops, and scallops with shrimp risotto, YUMMY! My husband had the Kobe beef, the night's special, and was delicious too. Nice ambience and can eat at the bar too if you don't have reservations. All in all a 5-star restaurant in Sarasota!"
