Chef Tom Gray brings "locally-owned" to the Town Center neighborhood with his new American restaurant, Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails at the Markets at Town Center. The two-time James Beard Award nominated chef and his skilled team favor a fresh, contemporary approach providing creative inspirations for lunch and dinner and weekend brunches.

An “American flavors from coast to coast” menu offers fresh takes on classic favorites while the craft cocktails, local brews and Cal-centric wine menu command their own attention.

Inside the two-story restaurant, an urban rustic decor sets a modern tone to the dining rooms, and the buzz of the open kitchen and bars make for a lively atmosphere. Open air patios and covered dining terraces provide outdoor dining options year round with views on the nearby lake.

  • "My husband and I enjoy brunch on the weekends and are always searching for new and great places. I had heard of Moxie Kitchen and Cocktails and wanted to try it. What an enjoyable and delectable experience! We were greeted and seated very promptly. Our service was equally as timely with recommendations from the manager, the chef, and our so-attentive server. The menu offers such a variety of unique and tasty choices that it was difficult to decide. My husband decided on the oyster omelet and I chose the Moxie burger and their corresponding sides. No disappointments, only delight! We will definitely will be returning."

  • "The food at moxie is always really good. Our server was excellent. We went for a birthday and they comped a dessert. Love this place"

  • "We went for a family celebration. The atmosphere was lively and fun. My 9-year-old loved the deviled eggs and grilled chicken. We all tried different meals but by far the chicken and waffle is the meal to try!"

  • "Restaurant is located in suburban Jacksonville, not downtown. Service and ambience were nice, menu somewhat limited and wine list left something to be desired. Our daughter loved her meal, my wife and I were less impressed."

  • "The best way to describe Moxie is casual gourmet. It sounds like an oxymoron but they have found a way to take basic dishes like mac-n-cheese or cheese on toast and pair them with flavors that really pop! Kale salad with stone fruit (peaches & pickled beets) and a pomegranate vinaigrette was a yummy main dish when you add shrimp!"

  • "I had heard great things about it, but I just was not really impressed by the menu options in terms of entrees. I really wanted to like the place, but my dinner (the gnocchi) was really salty but my husband did enjoy his chicken and waffles. They mentioned that they just changed their menu for this season a week or so ago, so maybe that was part of it."

  • "Had dinner last week, and was disappointed. The menu was a bit unusual, the prices were high and the portions were small. The drinks were great but again overpriced. My overall impression of the menu was they are trying to hard to be super eclectic and then they throw in black eye peas. Just did not work well for me. I had Brunch on Mother's Day and was disappointed with the limited menu. Again, great drinks though. Not sure if I would dine there again. Too many other venues that I like more."

  • "Absolutely LOVED Moxie Kitchen & Cocktails! Service was impeccable and we never had to ask for a thing. Our server, Asia, would just see us look up and over she came to assist. The food was yummy and the menu very unusual. So nice to get something out of the norm. They also did a smart thing with putting bars and outdoor seating upstairs and another bar on the other side of the building, so diners aren't disturbed by bar noise, which usually gets loud at night. I highly recommend this restaurant. We made reservations through Open Table. However, we ate on a Wednesday night. I would imagine reservations would be advisable on the weekend."

  • "My family and I the four of us celebrated my wife's birthday on Aug 4th. . We ordered drinks and I requested a Corona. My families drinks arrived in good time but my drink from the bar did not arrived until 15-20 minutes later. One beer!"

  • "After agonizing for what seemed like days over where to take company for a memorable Monday lunch, Moxie seemed to fit the bill swimmingly. Making a reservation, although unnecessary for the time of day we attended, our table was ready ahead of time and we were treated in spectacular fashion. Our waitress was fantastic and the hostess was kind enough to let us tour the upper level which was typically closed for Monday lunches. After a moderate wait, our food came out hot and delicious. After sampling the plates of others, we quickly came to the consensus that the Chicken and Waffles was the best thing ordered and we made plans to come back again. Our next time will be at night, where we can enjoy the sure to be energetic bar scene upstairs."

  • "We were having trouble finding a nice restaurant that could take reservations for 17 during prime hours (7PM) on a Saturday. I was able to get a table to meet our needs on OpenTable. We arrived 2 hours early to drink at the bar. The staff was excellent. Friendly bartenders and hostess. Great selection of liquor and mixers and the drinks were very good. Our table was ready 10 minutes early. We had one waiter which I thought would be hard for such a large party, but he was great. Food arrived together, he checked on us frequently. Menu selection is not large, but everyone enjoyed their meal. The Scottish Salmon was prepared well, not over cooked, and the golden beats were very good. We will come back, for sure."

  • "We always enjoy the food at Moxie! This time the food wasn't quite as good as previous dinners. Don't know why. Still very good, just not rave able. We forgot it was Happy Hour on a Thursday night and ate upstairs. it was very loud, making it difficult to talk. Maybe we would have been better off sitting downstairs? The restaurant is always very accommodating. They would have happily moved us but once we were seated and started eating, moving really wasn't an option."

  • "This place has it all! Great ambiance, excellent service, and not to mention the amazing food! It is not your typical menu here at Moxie. While you can find any type of item you want, Moxie puts their own spin on it. I opted for some comfort food and tried the Dr. Pepper Short Rib with Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes and I was NOT disappointed at all. It was outstanding! Also, if you come in for a small bite, try some of the appetizers! The deviled eggs four ways and the cheddar biscuits with BBQ Butter were to die for!"

  • "Food was good, service was slow, which has been our experience each of the three visits we've had to this restaurant. Great location and has an opportunity to be a great place if they'd put more focus on hiring great servers who remember your order, visit the table often and show they care about your experience."

  • "6 of us ate at Moxie ranging in age from 17 to 64. Everyone found the menu interesting and food excellent. We tried a variety of appetizers, 5 different entrees and two desserts. Service was very prompt and servers were all friendly and helpful. My "Catch of the Day" seemed on the dry side, flavor a bit strong. Everyone else loved their food and all will look forward to visiting again for dinner."

  • "We've been back several times. Service, drinks, appetizers, chicken and waffles, short rib, sloppy joe..... all exceptional. And of course, DON'T Skip dessert! Dined upstairs this time, which has a slightly different ambience than downstairs....either is great."

  • "We had a server in training, by the name of Zane. He was awesome. Can't wait until he gets hired full time. Will request him all the time. Corn Chowder is great!"

  • "The Hangtown Omelette was rather bland and the rest of the "brunch" menu leaves quite a bit to be desired as it is almost devoid of any "take" on a traditional brunch menu item. It is a given that the cuisine is weird, but for brunch it is unduly so. The coffee and fresh orange juice were good though."

  • "My wife and I chose comfort food for our Friday night out. Burger and Fries were very good but not to the level of Poe's Tavern. The sloppy joe was very tasty but a heavy choice. The mac & cheese is fabulous but not for those watching their calories. The same can be said for the warm cookie topped with ice cream - comes in a baby iron skillet hot out of the oven. Delicious and not so bad if shared. We ate downstairs and early enough so the noise level was moderate. Service was friendly and prompt. It was raining when we left the restaurant and a staff member kindly walked us to our car with the restaurants large golf umbrella - a pleasant and appreciative surprise!"

  • "Eclectic menu with choice of portion sizes. The online menu did not match the current menu at the restaurant since they just changed it, but we were still able to order a special diet need entree for someone in our party."

  • "Upstairs dining not as nice as downstairs -- no view and very noisy. New waiter --- did not know menu and a little abrupt when asked about specifics --- as though he was doing us a favor. Mutten snapper very good. Would not order gnocchi again. Wife picked venue for her birthday dinner based on prior dining experience --- prior experience was far superior."

  • "Food service started off a bit slow, but improved. However, the bar service was quite slow throughout the evening, but the food was very good. We started with a cheese & meat tray and all four of us really liked it. And for our main dishes, the four of us ordered different items: rosted chicken, scallops, trout and salmon, and all of us was very happy with our choices and would order it again. Our only complaint was the atmoshpere. We were seated downstairs at on of the booths with the really high backs facing the large open room. It gave a closed in feeling, yet stark at the same time. But we will return !!!"

  • "Knowledgeable staff at the bar for pre drinks. Some call them mixologists, I just call it knowing your classic drinks. Was really busy, even with a 915pm seating. Delay in getting our food ensued. Recommend skipping starters and getting a dessert. Over all, great decor and a chilled vibe inside with an eager team ready to assist. Got a personal apology from the guy plating up, guess he might have been the owner."

  • "I hosted my birthday and graduation party here because my mom recommended your restaurant. I aspire to become a chef. I will be attending culinary arts this spring. The food was exciting and easy on the eyes! I tasted everybody food at our table of 8. I am pleased to say all of it was enjoyed and pleasing to the palate. The only upset was the cold appetizers."

  • "My wife and I were both thinking "salad for lunch" when we arrived at Moxie. They handed us the brunch menu. We both spent a lot of time making our selection. In the end we each had the fried oyster omelette with a very nice mixed salad on the plate. We split a side order of 3 cheese grits. There were so many interesting choices that we will need to return, probably several times to satisfy our curiosity."

  • "I've been here 4 times and I always hope they will iron out their issues. They still can't get their act together. The food is average and the waitstaff is miserable. The noise upstairs is unbearable."

  • "We dined at Moxie on early on a Tuesday night. The staff was pleasant, attentive and professional. The food was good but not at the level I would have expected from the chef given his reputation. We had the BBQ Biscuits which were a little bland and slightly overcooked and the fried cheese curds which were interesting but not anything special. I then tried the Cauliflower soup. This was the one thing we ate that I would go back to have again. It was wonderful. For entrees, two of had the chicken and waffles and the other person had the scallops. The chicken and waffles were again fine. Not wonderful and not interesting enough for me to order then a second time if I went back. So overall it was good but not great."

  • "We had a group of 6 and we were seated in a semi round booth that was not big enough for 6 adults. Our server was awesome. Most of the items we saw on the menu that interested us in this app were not on the actual menu at the restaurant. The food took forever to come out."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by all aspects of this restaurant as the name is misleading. It's not a bar with a fast food kitchen. They have some interesting takes on traditional food, e.g. their deviled eggs appetizer is not your mama's deviled eggs"
