Chef Tom Gray brings "locally-owned" to the Town Center neighborhood with his new American restaurant, Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails at the Markets at Town Center. The two-time James Beard Award nominated chef and his skilled team favor a fresh, contemporary approach providing creative inspirations for lunch and dinner and weekend brunches.

An “American flavors from coast to coast” menu offers fresh takes on classic favorites while the craft cocktails, local brews and Cal-centric wine menu command their own attention.

Inside the two-story restaurant, an urban rustic decor sets a modern tone to the dining rooms, and the buzz of the open kitchen and bars make for a lively atmosphere. Open air patios and covered dining terraces provide outdoor dining options year round with views on the nearby lake.

  • "This place has it all! Great ambiance, excellent service, and not to mention the amazing food! It is not your typical menu here at Moxie. While you can find any type of item you want, Moxie puts their own spin on it. I opted for some comfort food and tried the Dr. Pepper Short Rib with Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes and I was NOT disappointed at all. It was outstanding! Also, if you come in for a small bite, try some of the appetizers! The deviled eggs four ways and the cheddar biscuits with BBQ Butter were to die for!"

  • "6 of us ate at Moxie ranging in age from 17 to 64. Everyone found the menu interesting and food excellent. We tried a variety of appetizers, 5 different entrees and two desserts. Service was very prompt and servers were all friendly and helpful. My "Catch of the Day" seemed on the dry side, flavor a bit strong. Everyone else loved their food and all will look forward to visiting again for dinner."

  • "The Hangtown Omelette was rather bland and the rest of the "brunch" menu leaves quite a bit to be desired as it is almost devoid of any "take" on a traditional brunch menu item. It is a given that the cuisine is weird, but for brunch it is unduly so. The coffee and fresh orange juice were good though."

  • "My wife and I chose comfort food for our Friday night out. Burger and Fries were very good but not to the level of Poe's Tavern. The sloppy joe was very tasty but a heavy choice. The mac & cheese is fabulous but not for those watching their calories. The same can be said for the warm cookie topped with ice cream - comes in a baby iron skillet hot out of the oven. Delicious and not so bad if shared. We ate downstairs and early enough so the noise level was moderate. Service was friendly and prompt. It was raining when we left the restaurant and a staff member kindly walked us to our car with the restaurants large golf umbrella - a pleasant and appreciative surprise!"

  • "Food service started off a bit slow, but improved. However, the bar service was quite slow throughout the evening, but the food was very good. We started with a cheese & meat tray and all four of us really liked it. And for our main dishes, the four of us ordered different items: rosted chicken, scallops, trout and salmon, and all of us was very happy with our choices and would order it again. Our only complaint was the atmoshpere. We were seated downstairs at on of the booths with the really high backs facing the large open room. It gave a closed in feeling, yet stark at the same time. But we will return !!!"

Delay in getting our food ensued. Recommend skipping starters and getting a dessert. Over all, great decor and a chilled vibe inside with an eager team ready to assist. Got a personal apology from the guy plating up, guess he might have been the owner."

The food was exciting and easy on the eyes! I tasted everybody food at our table of 8. I am pleased to say all of it was enjoyed and pleasing to the palate. The only upset was the cold appetizers."

  • "My wife and I were both thinking "salad for lunch" when we arrived at Moxie. They handed us the brunch menu. We both spent a lot of time making our selection. In the end we each had the fried oyster omelette with a very nice mixed salad on the plate. We split a side order of 3 cheese grits. There were so many interesting choices that we will need to return, probably several times to satisfy our curiosity."

  • "We dined at Moxie on early on a Tuesday night. The staff was pleasant, attentive and professional. The food was good but not at the level I would have expected from the chef given his reputation. We had the BBQ Biscuits which were a little bland and slightly overcooked and the fried cheese curds which were interesting but not anything special. I then tried the Cauliflower soup. This was the one thing we ate that I would go back to have again. It was wonderful. For entrees, two of had the chicken and waffles and the other person had the scallops. The chicken and waffles were again fine. Not wonderful and not interesting enough for me to order then a second time if I went back. So overall it was good but not great."

  • "I had high hopes for Tom Gray's newest project. I sat upstairs at 6:30 so there were several after work groups there for happy hour. It was so loud it was difficult to have a conversation, way beyond energetic. There is nothing in the space to absorb sound. The food and service were adequate, but nothing to get excited about. I was happy they had Duke's Cold Nose on tap. The pork loin was a dry slab of meat without a flair. I guess I was hoping for Bistro Aix, only closer to where I live and work."

There are good vegetarian and pescatarian choices-Unlike many new cutting edge restaurants, they do not think that vegetarians have stupid and uncouth taste buds. Service was polite and timely. Desert was a disappointment- skillet cookie was not warm and was hard- literally- to eat. We mentioned it to the server and it was comped. Definitely will return."

  • "Read the reviews on Yelp and was a bit afraid as they were so mixed. Ours was a great experience! Food was awesome, one friend had the fish special and 2 of us went with the Short Ribs- very good; could taste the Dr. Pepper in the sauce! We even tried desserts. The Salted Caramel Crème Brulee' was good- The service was excellent- attentive, good follow through. Ambience was great. Guests at next table enjoyed their Chicken & Waffles and asked what we thought of the ribs. Drinks were very pricey overall in comparison."

  • "On the reccomendatoon of friends with a local family farm, we dined at Moxie. We both try to eat very healthy and eat lots of local ingredients. Moxie made it tough to decide what to chose with unique dishes. We had the chicken livers as an appetizer, the Kale salad with shrimp and brisket Sloppy Jo. We also treated ourselves to what Moxie called their Desert of the Moment. Everything was very delicious. The service was excellent too. We will be back!"

  • "Went for lunch....but they were only using brunch menu on a Saturday at 11:30. I ordered a cheese biscuit/homemade sausage and over easy eggs. Would have preferred a more "normal" presentation as I think they try to be too inventive and concerned with presentation and NOT overall taste....I tasted the sausage all day!! My nephew ordered the burger (beef/pork/bacon) and I could tell he didn't like the different taste as he didn't eat half of it! The fries were good, however. My sister had an egg salad sandwich which she said was good....but not a rave review. Sorry!!"
