  • "We looked forward to Mourayo because it had been reviewed well recently. We were not at all disappointed with the food, which included a wonderful fresh beet and yogurt salad, a rabbit pasta dish, and a black ravioli in lobster sauce, and other dishes. However, the pace of the service was quite slow. So, we would return for the food, but hope the service becomes a bit more efficient."

  • "We were glad we had the OpenTable reservation - the place was packed for a Saturday dinner at 8pm! They saved us a lovely table at the front window which was somewhat protected from the restaurant noise. The special saganaki appetizer was great! I had Salata Santorini and the eggplant appetizer (Melitzanosalata) as my meal, and both were good - but I would have loved a bit more of the salad, it was so yummy! Also - The table next to us had an accident with a water glass, and staff were quick to help and pretty discrete, which was nice to see. Spilling something is always a bit embarrassing."

  • "We celebrated a birthday at the restaurant and all enjoyed the experience. The wine recommendations were good as we were not overly familiar with Greek wines. Service was very good and not pushy allowing us to enjoy our wine prior to getting the appetizer. Food was very good and the choices were not your standard Greek Restaurant menu which was great. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and the octopus appetizer was enough for 3 to share and very good. Since it was a pleasant and warm Spring evening the restaurant had their front windows open and the breeze was pleasant. It was almost like dining outside."

  • "We arrived at 5:30 (quiet then-noisy later), so got the restaurant staff's full attention. We noticed the tablecloths. I wasn't sure which red wine I might prefer & the waiter explained each I inquired about & offered a taste of all 3 in 3 separate glasses so the remains of 1 wine didn't interfere with the taste of the following wines. I was impressed, as that has never happened to me before. The menu had so many interesting appetizers & entrees I could have ordered anything. My friends ordered a vegetarian dish while I ordered 2 appetizers: grilled fresh octopus & a phyllo wrap, both delicious. We all tried separate desserts -- all yummy. I have a sweet tooth so I loved my baklava. I can't wait to try different dishes in the future."

  • "The food was very good, the wine excellent & the service terrific. Our waiter was attentive & patient without being intrusive. They graciously accommodated six of us, deftly made space for sharing starters, & gave ample time before delivering main dishes. Everything beautifully plated. The octopus, Keftedakia, red peppers & Haloumi cheese were all very good. The fava puree was a bit bland, (perhaps a bit of infused olive oil - lemon or sage ). The rabbit, lamb chops & shrimp ravioli were all expertly prepared & delicious. The selection of Greek wines is generous and the knowledgeable sommelier's recommendations were brilliant, especially the Karydas xinomavro which paired beautifully with our rich main dishes. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "We enjoyed it. The seafood, monkfish and scallops, were beautifully prepared. The Cretan pasta with rabbit ragout was unusual and delicious, lamb chops first rate. The Cretan Shiraz was an interesting wine. Both deserts, the baklava and very dense chocolate mousse were excellent."

  • "I am Greek and I would definitely recommend this restaurant. I have been there several times and I was never disappointed. The food is not the traditional food that most restaurants in Greece have. It is more elegant and it resembles one of the best restaurants there. This is why it is a little more pricey but still reasonable for the quality of the food, the service and the atmosphere. Whoever I took there too was satisfied."

  • "We were a party of four and ordered a wide variety off the menu all of which was very good to outstanding and avoided typical approaches to Greek dining. If you are looking for gyro and souvlaki Mourayo is not for you. If, however, you are looking for Mediterranean dishes with twists on traditional ingredients Mourayo fits the bill nicely. The service here was prompt, professional and with a smile. While not inexpensive, I felt Mourayo offered good value for a lovely evening in Washington."

  • "I met an out of town friend here, based on reviews and recommendations. The space is pleasant, with tables having enough space around them to have private conversation and hear each other. For rest rooms, one does have to go downstairs. My friend has a number of food allergies. Our server was patient and pleasant in helping her choose the soup of the day and the lamb chop entree, both of which she enjoyed. My appetizer salad and lamb stew special entree were subtly and well spiced. Water was frequently renewed and we were permktted a long visit before the check was delivered. An extremely pleasant dining experience, very much affected by the excellent service throughout."

  • "Reserved at this restaurant expecting conventional greek food but was surprised by an original menu, still with some classics, but with the restaurant's own twist. Ordered octopus and grilled eggplant as appetizers, beautiful presentation and excellent quality. Had black ravioli stuffed with shrimp, lamb chops and linguini with scampi as main course, everything was delicious. The waiters were very knowledgeable about the food, friendly and efficient. Street parking and close to parking lots as well. Will definitely go back."

  • "This restaurant really stood out on a busy Saturday night for its excellent service. The food was fine to good, but both the host and our server were outstanding and really made the evening. After we were seated, a better table by the window opened up. The host came over and offered to move us over there, which I thought was a really nice touch. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly; she always seemed to be close by if we needed something but was never intrusive. Food -- fine -- I think it's actually harder to find friendly, good service these days than good food, so hope to be back soon."

  • "Usually we don't dine out on Valentine's Day, but this year our theater subscription happened to include a play on February 14, so we decided to head to Mourayo because we know that, no matter how crazy busy they are, the service is ALWAYS fantastic. The meal was fabulous. Chef Yiannis, whom we met on his last visit to the US, is in the kitchen once again and created an amazing menu featuring Aphrodisiac ingredients. The food was amazing, the wine recommendations were perfect, and the service was so friendly. A special evening at a special place in DC."

For that reason, while it was worth the experience, I wouldn't necessarily make this a regular spot. Perhaps save it for special events. As an aside, they did have short but interesting list of artisanal beers, from which the waiter was able to recommend a pairing, as well as a separate, extensive wine menu."

It has authentic Greek cuisine, including interesting Greek wines, and the atmosphere is classy without being stuffy. The service is excellent.   • "My favorite Greek restaurant in DC. But it's not your moussaka kind of place. They always have something good and unusual. This time it was monk fish. Never had a problem and never expect one. I usually order uzo and it is always good. The service was only good, but they were quite busy on a Saturday night. At other times it was superb. The noise level was just right: we could talk and hear each other, and there was no gratuitous music. If only more places were like that."
