  • "We have ALWAYS been pleased and satisfied with the Mountain House. Everything is always perfect and delicious! LOVE IT!"

  • "This restaurant has an excellent menu. After much debate we tried three of the offerings... all superb. My Elk medallions were absolutely perfect! It was our second trip there in the last few months. No complaints at all with the food, service or ambiance. We did have a loud group that was too near us and that made talking to each other a bit difficult. The only real negative is the location of this place. Without a designated driver, we wouldn't go there at all."

  • "I LOVE THE MOUNTAIN HOUSE. Without fail, every time in the last four years when I've asked my fiancé where he'd like to spend his birthday, he replies with The Mountain House. Our out-of-town guests request reservations when they're visiting. We tell all of our friends about it and they always come back with great reviews. It's one of those places that's always friendly, always consistent, and always a good choice. We love it here and will continue to be loyal customers."

  • "Although a little painful to get to, Mountain House is a must for bay area foodies. Unique menu items make for a tasting delight. Our party of five had different items for taste sharing and there was not a disappointing flavor at the table. When making reservations, be sure to request the porch for the best views."

  • "Returned one week to the day of our first visit...it was that good! One of the specials was Elk in a plum demi glaze and it was excellent. I also had an encore performance of their Caesar salad and a side of creamed spinach--never had better! My wife had their meatloaf and couldn't finish it all--she loved it as well. We also order the house Merlot by Kenwood which is the Yuluba (sp?)...And to top things off we had the Chata Cheesecake with toffee crumble. At one point there was a downpour and it was very enjoyable to listen while inside and cozy by the fireplace (with real wood). "Outdoor Dining"=in a glass enclosed room. "Scenic View"=the view from that terrarium room and on the drive up on Skyline Blvd."

  • "We arrived on a rainy evening but the smell of a wood burning fireplace in the woods filled the air with happiness. There were 3 of us that came for the game specials, after seeing a review on "Check Please". There were 2: Elk Medallions and Boar Shanks. We all decided on the Elk. It was delicious (2 rare; 1 medium rare). The sauce (Plum Demi-Glace) was perfect, so much that you just had to coat the fresh sauted vegetables with it. The horseradish potato cake was also very tasty. We've decided that we must return at least 4 times to try other specialties and view the wooded surroundings (from the patio) when it's lighter out! All in all, a great experience!"

  • "Went there on our 4 year anniversary and we absolutely loved it. Middle of the week, near the fireplace, quiet and romantic. Amazing food and service. The feta appetizer was incredible. Halibut was on their special, and it was cooked to perfection. Chocolate mousse tort was deadly. So good. Had to rave about this place. We will be coming back!"

  • "We thought we were eating in the high country instead of a few miles from town. The redwood trees that surround the property give off a beautiful setting. The restaurant is not fancy but done very nicely as a mountain house. The bar is casual and has a bar menu for more casual dining. Our food was delicious. We all had fish. Service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely return."

  • "I've been coming here since the 1970s and while it has changed over time it has certainly not declined. The menu is varied with entrees that are all tempting. DO NOT skip the soups - I have never failed to be surprised and delighted."

  • "We had a GREAT time. The service was fabulous, the food was appealing to both the eyes and the pallet. My buffalo steak melted in my mouth and my guests salmon was tender and tasty, perfect. The view was gorgeous. It is worth the time and effort it took to get there."

  • "We requested a table by a window and got the best seat in the house in the corner with windows on both sides and above us. The waitress was prompt and friendly. The food was delicious. It's our favorite place for special occasions."

  • "We went there to celebrate my neice's wedding after the ceremony. Even though I had mis-remembered the time of our reservation and arrived an hour late, they were very gracious in accommodating us. We had a wonderful meal and the service was excellent! Thank you Mountain House!"

  • "We all enjoyed our Mountain House experience, but had varying reviews on our meals. It's upscale, with dishes like venison and buffalo and pheasant. My skirt steak was amazing, with a delicious sauce. Could not have been better. But the others gave theirs a 7 of 10, perhaps based on personal taste more than quality issues - one got the meatloaf, and found it a tad burned on top and too spicy for her. Another had the stuffed chicken and thought the breading too fried/thick. Another had a seafood dish and didn't care for the side vegetables. Yet, we all liked the whole experience, including the effort to get there, which makes it seem like something special. Keep up the good work!"

  • "There were 8 of us and we all had a great dinning experience. We selected various entrees and there was sharing going on between us because we were so impressed by the flavors. We arrived about 20 minutes late, but that was no problem, we were not rushed."

  • "Mountain House is absolutely fantastic...wonderful ambience with warm, rustic feel combined with a great menu filled with delicious options. The service is always great too! Jerry, owner/manager, always goes out of his way to make it a special experience...and succeeds which brings us back very often. 5 stars from me for sure!"

  • "This place is consistently very good. If you seek elegant dining in the mountains, than this place is for you. I enjoyed a halibut special and my wife liked her Elk. The bread pudding is to die for."

  • "I have been here a couple times now and neither my wife or I can get enough of the bison sirloin, it is just that good! Most recently we came her with a party of 13 for my dad's birthday and it was just awesome. The calamari was ok but a little on the small side, the mussels were fantastic and were there were plenty of them. The service is just the best, from walking in to walking out everyone is so super friendly and knowledgeable. Even the bussers were funny, so far always a great experience."

  • "I often frequent Mountain House and always really enjoy myself. The waiting staff is very friendly and informative, the ambiance is laid back but very cozy and well put together and the food is simply amazing. Every time I'm there the other diners seem to be having a wonderful time and the jovial atmosphere is infectious. It's exactly what fine dining in the middle of a gorgeous redwood forest should be."

  • "We had a really spectacular dinner with great food and wonderfully attentive service in a warm and welcoming setting. The rack of lamb was perfect, the mussels and clams were really good, and everything else was better than expected. We had a wonderful evening, especially with the rain on the roof in the porch area. We will definitely be back."

  • "Very nice restaurant, great setting amongst the redwoods. If you go before or during sunset, ask for a table near the windows. They also have a fireplace in the restaurant and another in the delightful bar. Everyone that works there is super friendly and knows their stuff. My only complaint is they have very little for vegetarians and even less for vegans. Otherwise, the food is wonderful, a great place to go for a special dinner. We like to hang out in the bar before dinner, so leave time for that."

  • "I like the relaxed feel of this place --- definitely will go back to enjoy the restaurant and also the friendly bar environment. It was a rainy night when we first visited. The ambience and the staff were all fantastic. It was busy but not too crowded. The food was fantastic, the service friendly and timely. Highly recommend."

  • "This restaurant remains a gem in the peninsula coastal mountains. Featuring fish and game meats, the food is creatively prepared and well presented. The pace of dining is somewhat relaxed so the experience is not designed for those in a rush."

  • "Ivr kived in the Bay Area for the last 8 years and hadn't been to the Mountain House until last weekend. I now realize what I was missing out on. Their ahi special was off the hook but the bison hangar steak was even better. Our waiter has been there for 21 years and knows the menu maybe as well as the chef himself. Seriously fantastic food and service, with a fireplace kind of feel. Very highly recommended."

  • "I had the Bison Hanger Steak and it was outstanding. As usual the service was superb and the waiter made us feel special. The Mountain House is always our special occasion place to go. I love the food selection because of the game selections."

  • "This was our second time going to Mtn House for Valentine's Day . If possible it might have been even better than the first itme and we were over the moon abot our first time. Everything from intricately made cocktails ( done as mixologist would do) through the three delectible courses that included proscuitto wrapped prawns, "heart" salad and then our main courses of gorgonzola pasta and blackened cod then the mouthwatering apple tart topped with dried cherry ice cream couldn't have been more elegantly prepared and literally sent our taste buds into nirvana. We have seldom been to a more personalizing restaurant even though they were really busy. Special occasion? This is the place to go!"

  • "The food was outstanding and the location can't be beat. We enjoyed wonderful Dungeness crab and Petrale Sole that were caught that very morning. The wine selection was top notch, and we had the pleasure of dining in the glass-ceilinged room, where we watched the full moon rise through the redwood trees. It just doesn't get much better than this."

  • "This is a great "adventure" restaurant up in the Skyline woods that's also a locals hangout and feels far from the madding crowds of the cities. It's cozy and fairly quiet, with a cabin-like atmosphere and wood-burning fireplace, and with waitstaff who do an excellent job of trying to please. We often hike at the wonderful open space preserves off of Skyline Blvd and this restaurant has been a perfect stopping place for we tired and hungry hikers."
