  • "The tasting menu was a sensuous adventure for the mind and body, as were the wine pairings. Chef de Laser, Homaro Cantu himself called to confirm the reservation and asked if we had any food issues. He was playful on the phone and easy to chat with. At dinner, we were guided into each course and wine pairing with hints for palate sensations about to be experienced, and they were spot on! Throughout the meal we were offered extra off menu treats and an extra dessert tasting AND a tour of the grow room and kitchen."

  • "The food is witty and interesting but most importantly delicious. Gustatory pleasure dominates, and there were no unsatisfying gimmicks that have become all too common at the temples of modern food. The service was attentive and informative but also warm and unpretentious. The atmosphere is lovely, though austere (especially with the lighting, which was a bit harsh). The wine pairings were expertly chosen; only one sop to those who love oversized, over-fruited California products. We also dined at Grace on this visit to Chicago. Grace is a lovely room with fine (though pretentious) service and at least one great sommelier. But the best course at Grace was bested by at least ten of the courses at Moto. We'll be back."

  • "Every dish includes exotic preparations and presentation, so you could say it is more a show than a real dinner. If you are looking for a new and original experience, this is it. I recommend it more for the show than for the food; food is really good, but the whole experience is awesome."

  • "Moto offers a great opportunity to have a strange (in a great way) dining experience. The food is extremely well thought out and the presentation is intricate and elaborate to the point of "wow". Some of the tricks were a little on the gimmicky side, but still fun. My only food criticism is that a few of the dishes were a bit on the salty/over seasoned side. The meal is long (15 courses) as we were there for over 3 hours and is one of the more expensive dining options in the city. Service was outstanding as the servers were knowledgeable and attentive without being pushy or overly noticeable. The only thing I question is whether or not this is a place you can go and be a repeat diner. In my opinion, this is a one time experience."

  • "Had the privilege of attending Moto's 10th Anniversary special where they featured favorite courses from their current menu as well as various classic courses from their storied past. Was so much fun trying some iconic dishes I had never previously consumed as well as repeating some old favorites. Such an amazing meal with top notch service and excellent wines in addition to the fantastic cuisine. Moto has elevated into one of Chicago's top dining venues and is becoming better with age. In addition to the classics, Chef Farina and Crenshaw are churning out creative, delicious, whimsical new dishes every month; I have already booked my next visit. Here's to another 10 years of mind blowing dining experiences!"

  • "We were excited as we read positive reviews and felt that Moto may be a worthwhile restaurant. First 5 courses were creative and delicious. The remaining 4 savory courses were not edible due to over salting. We mentioned this to our main waitress. She told us each 4 times that for people who eat very low salt diet, she expects that we would have problems. We explained that we are not on a low salt diet every time. The three of us are friends and we eat out all the time. We have dined multiple times at Grace, Goosefoot, Tru, Elizabeth, Sixteen, Next, Alinea, Nico Osteria, Cicchetti, L2O and The Lobby in just the last 12 months and have never been told 4 consecutive times that its our low salt diet that is the source of the problem."

  • "This is a place for foodies, such as me and my wife. It did not disappoint in terms of food, wine, and service. The menu is highly experimental and is very well executed, and the wine pairings were spot on. My only issue was the cost. $716 for two people to have the tasting menu and pairings + tip is excessive. I was in Europe this past summer and ate at a couple of three Michelin star restaurants (Moto was not as good as either of these, which is not a condemnation by any extent), and it cost less to partake in their tasting/wine menus, in Munich and Paris no less, which are two very expensive cities in which to eat). But, you only live once, so save up your pennies and go to Moto if you want a food experience!"

  • "Moto is our go to restaurant in Chicago for special occasions. Chef's Farina & Crenshaw keep becoming better each visit and the staff here is wonderful. This is a tasting menu where every course has a wow factor and is impressive both in taste, presentation and creativity. The mole course was one of my favorite bites of 2013 but everything was fantastic. In 2013 we celebrated my wife's birthday, my birthday and New Year's Eve at Moto and it will continue to be our special occasion venue of choice for the new year. Moto is not just a world class dinner, but a memorable and whimsical dining experience."

  • "Wow! Impressive culinary exploration and discovery happening here. But at some point one wonders have it gone too far. Too clever by half. In the end does the gastronomic experience benefit or suffer from the science dominated event that used to be referred to as dinner? Unfortunately, the overall experience suffers here at Moto. The staff is stiff and disinterested in the individual experience taking place with their theoretical assistance. The wine list is small and remarkably expensive. Overall, the extraordinarily high cost of the science experimen,t rather than meal, is simply not a good value. There are far too manny other dining choices in Chicago to bother with this one. Too bad, really. We very much wanted to like it."

Course after course of stunning, whimsical yet delectable cuisine combined with attentive yet personable service make for a world class dining experience. Executive Chef/Partner Richie Farina and Pastry Chef Claire Crenshaw frequently create amazing new dishes that keep us returning every few months. Moto is phenomenal now and it looks like 2014 will bring new and even better innovations.   • "I came from New York specifically to dine at Moto, and was both amazed and disappointed. The food, the ambience, and particularly the service were all among the best I've experienced. Yet, the wild creativity that I had heard so much about was somewhat lacking. There were a few incredibly clever presentations, but nothing compared with the dishes on the website and video. Again, the service was absolutely amazing. Beyond anything I've experienced."

  • "This dining experience ended very negatively. The ONLY dinner option was the "tasting menu" with or without a wine pairing. We choose the wine pairing. Portions are so small we wanted to go to dinner after we were through. When the bill came, it was just over $1400!!!! We had NO idea of the price. Not one menu or mention was made of price nor was it on their web site. Since our dining the web site now DOES give a price. We would NEVER dine at this restaurant again."

  • "I had the 14 courses with the wine progression. The wine selection was from the top I tried in my life. 11 carefully selected and paired wines. The food? Come with an open mind and don't come to hungry. Service is slow but not bad, is just that every course is small and almost a piece of art. Come ready for a flavor eclectic experience. I will definitely come back. Every body complains about the price... Well 95 usd for 11 pre selected half glasses of wine. You usually pay from 10 to 14 usd for full glasses. This is the equivalent to 6 or 7 glasses. Is not totally out of market price. every course is carefully crafted so it totally pays off."

Each of the 11 tasting courses was a still life: plating was creative and unusual (one was a wall magnet commonly used for knives, here with tiny magnetic appetizer forks of luscious palate-pleasers; a wooden box that opened to clams, mussels and lobster on aromatic sea greens; another, a terrarium-like container of growing sprouts, clipped table-side for the perfect fresh green highlight to bison tartare). Flavors were varied, rich and sometimes startling. Accompanying wines were an exercise in indulgence. The staff was warm, informative, and down-to-earth -- no stuffy, elitism here. And a tour of the kitchen, post-dinner, led to delightful conversations with charming, interesting chefs."

Stand-outs were the spice "road" , the corn chowder "bridge" and the octopus dish.. We did not do the wine pairings and in retrospect I wish we had. Foodies will relish the evening.   • "We had high expectations after hearing great things but were a bit disappointed with the outcome. Service was decent though we had a booth table so it was awkward when they put new silverware down and had to reach across all of us, especially when they can't reach the stone they put the silverware on. The food was okay, maybe have been our taste but portions were smaller than we expected and the meal wasn't filling at all. We also had the expectation that the food was more playful as described on the website but that didn't seem the case."

  • "Service was outstanding. Wine pairing was very good and well chosen. Few courses were OK, few courses were outstanding and the last course "Baking 101" was just uneatable. When you pay that much for a meal, you expect everything to be perfect. I would rather prefer less courses perfectly executed with more food in it. The meats and protein were so good… I would double or triple the portion for sure ;) There was too many desserts courses for my taste (4 out of 13 were desserts) I was glad to try it but I don't think I will return. Overall, I found chefs works very hard on presentation and gadget but at the end, the taste and the produce should be outstanding and the star of the meal… It lacks at that point."
