Moti Mahal DeluxBEST new Indian in NYC!!!Food = Exquisite, delicate, perfectly flavored....
Service = welcoming, attentive, impeccable
Price = great value..... All other Indian restaurants in the city should take note!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting twist on Indian fareMoti Mahal Delux is a great choice for Indian on the UES, and a welcome respite if you're needing to spend time at Sloan Kettering or other nearby hospitals.. It's not your usual curry-and-biriani menu, and the flavors were truly interesting. One note--the recently got a wine and beer license, and so it's no longer BYOB, unless you want to pay a corkage fee. To be fair, the one $20 fee covered 2 bottles--don't know if that was intentional or an oversite, but I'm not complaining.
We'll definitely be going back again.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb!We ate here recently and have nothing but good things to say. All of the entrees were well-spiced, incredibly tasty, and reasonably priced. The eggplant was absolutely my favorite. We also tried two appetizers - the samosas and the fried okra -- both good, neither as delicious or interesting as the entrees.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMyum yumThis 1st Ave. location had 2+ previous Indian kitchens. Moti Mahal finally gives me a reason to eat local.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest IndianRestaurant in NYCDivine Lamb Chops. Perfectly cooked vegetables. Exquisite flavors. Nice and spicy.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Indian foodI've eaten indian all over the city and consider myself a good judge. Undoubtably some of the best Indian food in manhattan. Fabulous chicken tikka and chicken Marsala.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMDelux, Indeed.We had such a lovely time at Moti Mahal Delux. The food was outstanding ( although some of the dishes were too spicy for certain members of our party), beautifully presented, and reasonably priced.. The service was impeccable- warm and extremly hepful, and our server's blingy flashlight was very useful in reading the menu, which could stand to be a little clearer in its graphics. I am so happy that Moti Mahal is in the hood, and the butter chicken surpassed all expectations,5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food!Nothing to complain about here. The staff was exceedingly pleasant, the tandoori chicken was tender and perfectly spiced; the stuffed mushroom skewer was to die for and the lentils were smooth and delicious. We had a lovely table by the window, where we sat and chatted and felt no pressure to leave. I will definitely go again!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodNYC was in dire straits for a good Indian. This one is almost as good as the one in London! Love that King Fisher.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMpersonal service, delish and uniqueThe wait staff were incredibly attentive and the manager answered our questions regarding the menu and made great suggestions for our meal. The food was great and there were some unique twists on traditional plates like crab masala (also goat brain masala), butter chicken, and a crispy ricotta filled spring roll dipped in spicy tomato sauce. The wine list was great too. Will go again and bring more friends.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe right place.Just down the street from my place, I finally decided to make Friday night dinner reservations for my boyfriend and I. It was just the right atmosphere. The waitstaff gives you just enough space--not too pushy--but eases you into a fine dining experience. They even provided assistance when we ordered the Golgappa Shots and had no idea how to eat them--grabbing for our phones in helplessness, the manager silently came over, as if to fill our water glass and quietly gave us instructions, unheeded. It was all intuitive and a completely lovely experience. Go.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMEXCELLENTwhile a little expensive for indian, we thought it was excellent5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb food but mediocre otherwiseArrived on time w reservation for 2 on Wednesday; waited 25 minutes for table; noisy; service OK (just); was more or less pushed out 1 hour from sitting down so the next twosome could be seated (though other earlier groups were still sitting). I'll go back for the food, which is GREAT!, but the rest needs much improvement.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Indian food in NYC!Found out about this place while in New Demhi India this past March. Food is better than INDIA'S location! Enough said, best food! Especially the lamb chops!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's about time..Moti Mahal Delux has opened on the UES and is delicious, authentic and reasonably priced. The original Moti Maha Delux is in India with this one being an offshoot. The dishes were outstanding: tiny little samosas that don't resemble grenades; buttery fresh naan bread redolent with garlic and fresh cilantro; shrimp succulent and perfectly cooked in a spicy coconut sauce; I could go on all day. The service by the waitstaff is excellent (water refilled quickly, empty dishes cleared away promptly, all professionally and with a smile) but the maitre 'd and the hostess seemed off. No smile or even eye contact from the maitre D; the hostess, while helpful was frankly curt. I am hoping this was an off day for them as the restaurant was very busy.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good at restaurant.Food was very good at restaurant. My only concern is the staff doesn't seem well trained. Manager was helpful but waitstaff do not have a good command of English and/or the menu. We will however dine ther again because we hope they will work these things out as times goes on.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food served on tablesVery good food served on tables too small to accommodate the dishes. Very poor beer and wine selection.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT food - I am indian,GREAT food - I am indian, brought my boyfriend and mom. Mind you, my mom is the best indian cook and has a very discerning taste. She loved every single thing we ordered.
Cons: It was really dark in there. I get making the ambiance romantic with mood lighting, but way too dark, couldn't read the menu without pulling over candles from other tables.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. I have been toGreat food. I have been to this restaurant a couple of times and ordered delivery food at my apartment many times. The quality of the food is always high and consistent. If you like or want to try Indian food, then you should go to Moti Mahal Delux restaurant.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMYou won't regret this placeThe lunch special has got to be one of NYC's best kept secrets. After selecting a meat or vegetarian option, you are served 3 appetizer samples, 3 entrees, rice, and naan. During the meal, you are asked whether you want anything refilled. Absolutely yes! Everything was well seasoned & tasty. To top it off, there's an amazing mango soaked donut hole thing at the end. I can STILL taste it. Incredible.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfully delicious food!!Wonderfully delicious food!! Dreamed of going back the next day to try more dishes.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch Special is special indeedThe midday lunch special is a real bargain. The best way to enjoy it is to go with a friend and order one vegetarian lunch and one non-vegetarian. Don't worry about insufficiency of the quantity. Seconds of any dish are included (if you have the capacity to have more than they gave you in the first place).3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI went with two friends andI went with two friends and the friend who recommended the place said we had to order the luncheon special. So we all did. Including tax and tip it came to $15 per person and there was leftover food. We couldn't eat it all. The food was absolutely amazing and the variety was extensive and wonderful. I will definitely go back!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, MOTI MAHAL DELUXAs always, MOTI MAHAL DELUX was absolutely wonderful. Nothing to say other than that.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant presents aThe restaurant presents a friendly ambiance and lives up to that. The Indian spices are subtle but not meek. The staff is very accommodating but the most important thing is the food. I've eaten at many Indian restaurants but this one is special. It is extraordinary wonderful and the presentation is great. The restaurant itself is beautifully done. The only kicker is that at peak time it does get noisy. If the noise could be tapered it would be totally perfect.3/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Northern IndianOutstanding Northern Indian food; very friendly staff and many diners from the neighborhood, all having a good time apparently. Wonderful aromas.3/4/2013 12:00:00 AMdecor is not that exciting.decor is not that exciting. food was good... though of course, overpriced for new york (SF still has an upperhand when it comes to good, affordable Indian food).2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBustlingFood is excellent but the space is so cramped it's quite loud and hard to converse. Go at an off hour. The waiters try to rush you out.1/7/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful, unusual Indianwonderful, unusual Indian food in a pretty place with very friendly staff. the food is excellent.12/30/2012 12:00:00 AMI have been to Moti MahalI have been to Moti Mahal several times since they opened and have had a very good experience, if not excellent every single time. Food and service are great and am so happy it is so close to where I live. We needed a good Indian restaurant in our neighborhood. All I can say is that's it terrific.12/29/2012 12:00:00 AM
