Diner Reviews
  • "I have always wanted to dine at the Moshulu, and was so excited when I found out that my husband had made reservations for us and our friends. However, the experience I had did not live up to the reputation that is the Moshulu. I felt that the food was overpriced, and did not compare is flavor or portion to similarly-priced food at other high-end restaurants."

  • "I took my team for dinner here -- they all took a deep breath as we arrived -- seeing the ship at birth -- and things went up from there! Don't miss this place!"

  • "We went to Moshulu and I now have a new happy place. Whenever I'm sad or stressed, I will close my eyes and picture myself with that heavenly piece of swordfish. And I will weep. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? It is so worth it."

  • "My experience Moshulu was horrible! We went to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday and they seated us next to a very loud party of 20; it was so loud that we could not even have a conversation. I asked to speak to the manager, he was useless. He would not switch our table despite having empty tables in a quiet room. He was defensive and said that there was nothing he could do to accommodate me. I will never go back there and will tell everyone I know not to go there."

  • "It was my anniversary. The waiter brought us complimentary champagne. Served us with elegance. And at the end of our meal we were served some complimentary chocolate liquor with little heart chocolates next to it with happy anniversary written on the plate it was so nice I had such a lovely time 15 years together and this just made me feel so special."

  • "My family and I had a wonderful time! The occasion was for our son's 22nd birthday. They really made him feel special! He never ate in a restaurant like that, so he was quite amazed at the food and service. They did an outstanding job and I'm soo pleased with the outstanding job that they did!"

  • "We treated our friends to a night out at Moshulu and it was a great choice for us----the restaurant was not overly crowded and we all enjoyed our meals. For appetizers we had lobster bisque, shrimp cocktail, and shrimp skewers; all were wonderful. For our meals we had the crab cake, which has lump crab cake and very little filler, it comes on a small salad bed, which was perfect; although it was to come with caper sauce and our waiter didn't notice it was missing---for one of us this was fine, but the other had to request it. Another person had the filet mignon done rare and it was perfect! Another diner had veal medallions, which were very tender and task! The bill was over $300 for 4 of us, so very expensive but we would go back again"

  • "Long story short, the food was tasty, but not blow my mind tasty, which is what I expected for the hype and for the prices. Honestly I've had better food at a pub or a bbq place (seriously, Sweet Lucy's does all you can eat BBQ on Monday's, and it is life changing good.) Back to Moshulu. Our biggest complaint was the wait for a table. I set a reservation for 8:15 on Open Table, thinking that we should be there at 8:15 and a table would be ready. No, instead we had to wait about half an hour, because people who had reservations for 8:00 came in at 8:20 and they were seated first. It wasn't a big deal, but it was a bit irritating, and confusing, Our waitress was very friendly tho, which I appreciated."

  • "From the beginning of the meal to the end (which was dessert) was decent enough, that i probable will go back if i am ever back in the neighborhood. Although we have had far better, We did enjoy the experience to recommend anyone for a meals. The only 2 downside was 1) if you are looking for scenery, you have to go on the upper deck to see "something"....2) when i enquired about a dessert i saw on the website that i wanted,i was told it is no longer served."

  • "Our dinners were very good but Moshulu is HIGHLY overpriced. We knew that going in but wanted the "experience" which was nice but not worth the price you are paying for the food. Special occasion only and rare that we would go back. My main issue was confusion with hostess when we asked for table after being seated at a booth (handicap invidual with us who could not get into booth properly). She actually wanted the party (with the handicapped invidual who could not walk, to come back to the door entry to wait for the table). When I told her we would wait at the booth area, she was surprised. Overall, though, a nice experience but don't think we will be returning."

  • "I was disappointed with my experience the moment I walked in. The hostess was superficially "nice". She didn't ask to take my oversized winter coat. The waitress tried to be nice but turned cold when I complained that the salad was extremely salty. My crab cake was burnt and I had to ask for the sauce that comes with the entree. I didn't even bother to point out that the crab cake was burnt and the scalloped potatoes were hard and under cooked. I just ate the crab cake knowing I will not return. I did not eat my very expensive scalloped potatoes I have finally been able to afford to go to nice restaurants and am sad that I know I won't return to this one. On a positive note, the bread was fresh and the view was quite lovely."

  • "Our dinner for two with appy, salads, meals with sides, desserts, two drinks each and tip was $300. I would figure more on the $200 range for this experience and quality. The service for our table was very slow, the couples/groups around us all had much better service as they all ordered after us and were eatting before us, we were in no rush, but was particularly slow for us."

  • "We just had a great time at Moshulu. The food was great and so was the atmosphere. The food is pricey but the portions are generous. At our table of 4 no one had an appetizer, we each had an entree and shared a side of lobster mac. No one had room for dessert. After dinner since it was a nice night, we went up to the deck to view the river. Beautiful!"

  • "While Moshulu seems to be a 'touristy' restaurant, we've been here a few times and have found the menu, food and service to be consistently excellent. It's a bit pricey but never disappoints for a special dining occasion."

  • "I took my wife here for her birthday. When we arrived she had a birthday card waiting for her. My wife is the type of person who is hard to please lol. She was blown away, the service was awesome as well as the food. Those were the best crab cake we've ever had. We will be back and can't wait to tell our friends about our experience."

  • "This place is top of my list now. I made reservations via Open Table. I left a comment that it was our anniversary . We showed up to "Happy Anniversary", complimentary champagne, and the sweetest little surprise desert. Our waiter was fantastic. Not neglectful, not overbearing. He was helpful in suggesting wine and drinks. I plan in definitely going again when the weather warms up so we can enjoy the roof deck. I tell all my friends about it! You gotta go!"

  • "Started with really ditzy hostess. After we were finally seated, despite the fact that it was fairly empty, the service was ok. My steak was over cooked and my friend did not care for his fish. We started with calamari which was ok but needed more sauce. Wouldn't return because it wasn't worth the high price"

  • "My husband and I loved the ambience of the Mosulu. I wonderful place for delicious meal on a ship with an extensive wine menu. the service was wonderful, William, made us feel comfortable and important. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and for dessert we shared the chocolate smores which was delicious. The waiter added a candle which was sweet. We enjoyed ourselves and would recommend the restaurant for its uniqueness, excellent food & wine, and very attentive staff..definitely 5 stars."

  • "I have been the Moshulu twice in the past month. Once with my boys for lunch and most recently with my girlfriend for dinner. There is reasonable, well planned, and elegantly presented kids meal. My boys loved the fact that they were on the ship having lunch. The views were great and the staff was very helpful. They let the kids "explore" the boat and pointed out cool things for them to look at. As for the dinner, the waiter was most helpful with recommendations and menu insight. The menu is ever changing either with chef specials or in season updates. Throughout the meal our server was ever present in asking how the food was to getting refreshed drinks including water. The food is magnificent. Used a Groupon and came to $50/person."

  • "Moshulu is ship/restuarant docked on Delaware River at Penn's Landing. The service, Sunday BRUNCH, and food offered was very good. We celebrated a birthday and it was a fun experience with abundant food offerings. All good!"

  • "I was given a Groupon for the Moshulu, and was terribly excited since I've always dreamed of dining on the big boat in the city as a child. As soon as my boyfriend and I entered the restaurant, I was very impressed. The ambiance was gorgeous, the service superb, and the food just plain delicious. I also loved the indoor bar- very elegant but casual enough to enjoy a beverage with a friend. I do wish we were seated facing the water and not parking lot, but overall we had such a pleasant experience and would go back again. It is expensive, but well worth it!"

  • "I chose Moshulu for my husband's birthday and I have no regrets. The food was delicious and the ambiance was romantic. I just wish there was a little more entertainment while eating like someone playing the piano since there was one in the room. Overall, it was a great experience and he loved it."

  • "We had a great dinner from soup to nuts. The server was very good until the end when he mixed up our check with another table. Charged my card with their food. When noticed rescanned my card therefore putting another hold on my credit card. When the manager was notified couldn't apologize more and compt us with a gift card. They need to be more careful when closing out checks. Just an FYI for everyone to look at carefully what you are being charged."

  • "We arrived @ 10 min. early and immediately seated, would have like to look around. Waiter immediately got water and asked if okay. Our view was the parking lot. We could barely see any water. My opinion is at the time we reserved we should have been seated on the opposite side River. Our waiter took awhile to take our order. We received bread just before appetizers and no spoon with the lobster bisque that was out of this world, delicious. Hubby got Mahi tuna, also great. We ordered a veal ($30)and dry aged steak ($44). Veal was very good came with some veggies but the steak was not up to par. Heard so much about great this was lacked wow factor and came with no sides they had to ordered for extra money. Did not like that option at all!"

  • "This was my third visit to moshulu and I was pleased as usual. I brought my daughter with me and she loves looking at the water while we eat. They have selections for children which I love and the food was delicious! I loved the chocolate pecan tart, absolutely sinful!! Can't wait to return."

  • "Due to the price of the food and the distance from my house, I don't regularly go to Moshulu. However, every time I go, it is incredible. I love the nostalgia of the ship, and the view of the water; but more importantly, the food is fabulous. I had the bisque appetizer and the veal entree. I can not explain the wonderful mixture of flavors in both of these items. The only disappointment was the side of crab mac 'n cheese; it wasn't bad, just mediocre (not much seasoning). The service struck an exact balance of attentiveness without hovering; the server was able to answer my questions about the menu items. This restaurant will spoil your taste buds and raise your expectations for service."

  • "First time in Philly. The Moshulu came highly recommended as a must go to restaurant. It lived up to the unique experience and more. The lobster soup was the best that I have ever had. I had the salmon with the beet puree. I should have taken a picture to show off the food display. It was a work of art! The salmon was cooked perfectly and a the two beet puree gave it an excellent and unique taste. My partner had the Scallops. She throughly enjoyed her dish. But my wife thought that she had died and gone to heaven when she got into the cheesecake with the chocolate sherbet. The experience of eating a on a schooner with the Delaware River as the view, made this very unique experience."

  • "Neat experience but the price of parking ($15) in addition to a pricey meal put a damper on the evening. Will not make it a weekly night out for dinner - the food was very good but. . . . . . a BYO with good food and without a high parking fee fits the bill."

  • "We've eaten at Moshulu many times and liked it, but it appears they have fallen on hard times. We suspected we were in trouble upon entering and seeing a 3/4 empty venue, the empty coat check room and the shabbily dressed greeters. The service was very good, but the food ranged from fair to inedible. The Jumbo Lump Crab cocktail was an insulting portion tiny pieces of crab covered in a tasteless mayo dressing stacked on a pile of lettuce so it looked like a big portion. Creamed Spinach with Brie was a pile of soggy spinach leaves in a watery goo that might have been in proximity to some cream, but not near any Brie. My Rib Eye with Garlic Aoli ordered rare was served well done. The aoli looked like mayonnaise left out too long. Stay away."

  • "We always enjoy going to Moshulu for special night out. Its romantic with great view, food and service. The place is a bit pricy but we usually don't mind. We were a bit disappointed this time. The food overall tasted good but was extremely surprised with one of entree. We ordered the scallops entree, its a $30+ dish so we were expecting diver size scallops but when the dish arrived, we were speechless. It had four quarter size scallops on top of some cheap veggie (corn/tomatoes) plus it was quite salty. I almost send it back but didn't. Place as upscale as Moshulu I would expect someone should have noticed and asked questions before serving to the customer. Its really a shame."
