Showed up at 4:50pm & were seated right away. Server was attentive at first, getting drinks & bread right away. Order was taken promptly. Soup arrived quickly & was hot & delicious (the french onion). I had the 4-course special so I got the tomato/fresh mozzarella next which was fresh & nicely chilled.
Our main entrees were brought next, by another server. I had ordered the filet mignon medium rare & my partner had the rib-eye medium. The server gave my filet to my partner and his ribeye to me. The ribeye was done medium rare & the filet medium. When our server came by a few minutes later we pointed this out & he offered to have the ribeye refired. I went with my girlfriend to celebrate our one year anniversary and I couldn't be more happier with my selection. Reservations were made at 7:15pm and the waiter sat us down at 7:15pm, talk about punctual service. The host truly made us feel special as she pointed out that from the reservation, she knew we were celebrating an anniversary and would find the most romantic table in the house. The waiter suggested the double-porterhouse for two and I couldn't have agreed more. The entree was beautiful not to mention incredibly delicious. We needed a restaurant to have an early dinner before our show at the San Diego Civic. Their 4 for $49 mailer came in our mailbox last Wednesday and we enjoyed a spectacular meal on Saturday night. The shrimp and prosciutto appetizer and salads led to perfectly prepared steaks that were completed with the amazing chocolate mousse. Our waiter had the perfect amount of attention to detail and was also cognizant of our timeline. I started with oysters and champagne. My husband had a martini. All was great. Our chopped salads were delicious, but my salad didn't have avocados that were on his. He had the bone-in rib eye, cooked to perfection. My 8 oz. filet was overcooked which they were happy to correct. The molten chocolate cake is always the best! I almost cried eating their food because it was THAT good. If you're a medium rare steak lover, I would prefer to go medium instead. Mine was a little under cooked, according to my waiter. So they were able to cook it more. Their prime is not baked or sitting under a warmer. I dont know how they cook it, but it's flame broiled and so juicy in the middle. It's so good, I can not describe. A little on the pricey side, but extremely worth it. I also had their flavored Morton's champagne. So good as well. I believe Barry was our waiter and he did an excellent job on service. Will go back and try the happy hour soon! It would be nice for the server to read the guests' body language and adjust accordingly. Some people like the "formal/pretentious" service and that's why they go to Morton's. Others don't and that's why they don't go to Morton's. I loved my $49 cajun ribeye, totally worth it. However, the over the top service rubs me the wrong way. I'm a regular at Donovan's La Jolla so I had the Cajun Rib-eye to see how it compares to Donovan's and I have to say I liked it better. It was a bit leaner (which was good) and the Cajun flavor more evident. It was great!
For sides we ordered Hash Browns, Au Gratin potatoes, Asparagus, and Mushrooms and none of them compared to Donovan's in flavor so I was disappointed there.
It was very noisy there. We were there for business and I felt I was not able to hear or be heard due to all the noise coming from the bar and other tables.

The ambience was great, the atmosphere just right for a cozy birthday dinner. Our servers were attentive and knowledgable on both old menu items and the new additions. They gave good pointers and were honest about their personal tastes.
The Bibb Salad and the citrus salad were refreshing and quite delicious. One person had the sampler and she loved it while the rest of the table went with the filet mignon which was succulent, soft and filling. We chose 4 sides to share between 6 of us and the lyonnaise potatoes were out of this world! On my drive down there Morton's called me to ask if it was a special occasion and asked how to spell my friends name out correctly which was nice because really no one ever gets her name right "Kirsten" We arrived a little early and we were probably the 2nd ones to arrive so it was very nice and quiet. Our waiter was awesome very attentive to all of our needs and got our drink orders right away. One thing about Morton's is they never rush you and they really strive to let you enjoy your meal and every thing was so delicious. When we got the menu's it said Happy Birthday Kirsten on the top part I thought that was nice.
