Our daughter and her husband had dinnner there a few weeks ago and really enjoyed themselves. The food was very good and service outstanding. Menu was somewhat limited but several specials were available. Glasses were never empty and the food arrived hot. My wife had a cosmo and I tried two new IPA's. Both were excellent. I liked the idea that they offered mostly microbrews. I put a note on the reservation I made with Open Table that it was my husband's birthday. We were so full that we didn't order dessert but the waiter brought out a scoop of vanilla ice cream on a birthday plate with the candle. It was a really nice touch. Portions are on the small side but that's okay with me (although my husband had a snack when we got home). Everything we ordered was delicious. The special menu was excellent, and the food, presentation and service were great. I looked at the regular food and wine menus and Moro has a mix of large and small plates for sharing, a great mixed drink list using Blood Orange as the theme, and a challenging 'who knows what' four or five course dinner that the chef selects (and for the adventuresome). We all agreed the menu selection was great and the added wine pairing was a welcome bonus! Food was excellent. Beginning of evening with waiter was a little awkward as one of our guests wanted to send a message to the chef to be sure the scallops were cooked "well". The waiter insisted the chef would cook them properly when all he needed to say was of course we will be sure to let the chef know of your preference. As it turned out, they were cooked properly but our firend remarked how easy it would have been in the beginning. All (3) of us liked what we ordered. My duck confit salad (I substituted sherry vinaigrette for their preferred dressing) and my small dish scallops with squash were out-of-this-world- fabulous. My supposedly "lumpcrab" small dish was mediocre--would not recommend it. It was a crab spread with no lumps in sight. No discernible shell, but this is hardly high praise.
The dessert was good--we shared the banana creme thing. I think their desserts should aim more for old-fashioned and delicious and less for cutesy or pseudo elegant. Very good for conversation and sharing. THe braised lamb shank special was delicious, very tender and nicely presented. We enjoyed sharing several small dishes prior to our entrees. Entry way is a little challenging since it is a converted house with doors opening over the steps. Surprised that has not been rectified. It came highly recommended and now I know why. All of the staff were extremely professional and very helpful. I was really impressed that they took our coats and insisted on helping us put them back on! The menu choices were excellent and all of the specials sounded amazing - I wish we could have ordered one of each! The portion sizes were also nice - definitely smaller than chain restaurants but you weren't left hungry. The only thing that I would recommend be changed is the lighting - it was a little hard to see the menu and you couldn't really see your food in detail to appreciate it. It keeps changing and we continue to find the changes interesting and exciting to explore. The most recent change (surprise!) is to shift the focus to the currently fashionable small plates/large plates format. They do it well and avoid calling it tapas which it is not. We each had three small plates and shared a desert. Each of these seven items was interesting, tasty, innovative and worthy of ordering again. This is a very high score! The service was friendly, timely and professional. If you have not been, GO. We actually made an early reservation this time (for 5 pm) and ventured out with our very quiet 2 month old son. Now normally I would discourage people from bringing their young children out to any nicer restaurant, but our baby sleeps all thetime. I hoped the restaurant would be accommodating and they were. The food was excellent as it always is. My husband ordered a steak special which was cooked perfectly and I ordered my favorite dish there - the salmon. Our waiter was friendly and attentive without being intrusive and the atmosphere was great.
