Morimoto's contemporary Japanese menu infuses traditional dishes with Western ingredients and preparation techniques. His seasonal and ever-changing selection of raw fish preparations will feature the best seafood that the Hawaiian waters have to offer as well as locally grown fruits and vegetables from supporting farmers. Morimoto's signature offerings include Toro Tartare, presented in a shallow wooden tray with condiments including Osetra Caviar, crème frâiche, wasabi, avocado, shiso leaf and dashi-soy and Tuna Pizza made with raw tuna, anchovy aioli and jalapeno as well as Morimoto Sashimi, a terrine of seared toro, smoked salmon, barbequed eel, tuna and hamachi served with five different sauces in pipettes.   • "This was our second visit to morimoto's for lunch in one week.The food was outstanding. My husband had the tuna sandwich, the likes of which we had never had ( it is sashimi style tuna in the sandwich) I have never cared for what I now call "traditional" tuna sandwiches but if I could eat tuna this way I would gladly eat it every day. I would have given the food five stars had it not been for the hair in the sweet pickle accompaniment( 4 star rating) Our waiter apologized and offered to bring another bowl of sweet pickles. I would have expected some sort of gratuitous gesture on the part of the restaurant (comp the sandwich) for the hairy pickles, but there was none. Food is outstanding, how the hairy pickle was dealt with, was not. "

  • "I have been disappointed in some restaurants in some restaurants run by name chefs. Morimotos met and EXCEEDED my expectations. Felt welcomed as soon as I walked in. Greeted and seated promptly. Waitstaff was excellent and knowledgeable . The menu choices were great, and varied. Our meals were full of flavor and beautifully presented. Wine list was good and even found a hard to find bottle. One other thing that made the experience was seeing Morimoto interacting with patrons, and children. Always smiling , unlike some " name chef/ owners. We had a great experience, even though we are somewhat jaded being that we eat more than half our meals out. Will return to some of his other locations in the near future."

  • "We went for an early lunch, so it was quite empty. There was a wedding reception outside, so we were sat inside. The menus were a bit grungy. Our server was mediocre, he really just gave us basic service. I guess I was expecting a bit more considering the price and reputation of this restaurant. Both me and my boyfriend worked in the restaurant industry, so we kind of know the differences in service rendered. The food itself was ok, definitely not worth the high prices. I've had MUCH better at pretty much any other Japanese food restaurant. If you want to pay these prices for this type of food, go to NOBU! "

  • "My son was so excited to eat here. They placed us near the kitchen because Chef Morimoto was there and maybe he would say hello. We ordered the shrimp tempura which was not what we expected. It wasn't awful just not good. The sushi we had was unusual and odd. The food was all under seasoned and our worst meal on Waikiki. "

  • "For the price one pays for this restaurant I expect service to be better and we had to wait longer than 30 min for our main course to arrive. Maybe I should've paid more attention to the description of the lobster but when it arrived it was covered with the seasonings which was too salty. Also all my vegetables were also salty. The waiter offered to replace my meal but by that time I just wanted to get out. No fault to the staff but the people seated next to us were loud and hearing him swear and his whole self-centered conversation just ruined the atmosphere. There were open tables farther away so I dont understand why they can't spread the crowd out more. Sushi was okay not a wow factor. Presentation was beautiful but flavor should match."

  • "I was quite disappointed in my experience I chose the Omokase $140 menu. It took every bit of 10minutes before anyone came. Finally a waiter came my drink took an addiitional 10 minutes to arrive. The early courses were very good, but then came something like a fondue with candle to warm oil and anchovy into which one could cook veggies...the problem was the candle kept going ou (4 times), it was replaced with Sterno which also just barely warmed the oil...I couldn't eat the dish...Further the time between dishes was often more than 10 minutes so the dinner stretched out to nearly 2 hours...this really trashed the rhythm of the experience.   • "A great spot by the true Iron Chef! The food is superb, the service is impeccable, and the view is awesome, especially if you sit out on the deck. Watching the sunset from Waikiki Beach is beautiful and you can have a front row seat while enjoying awesome food. The Chef’s Selection Sushi was outstanding, and I was surprised at the number of pieces they brought me for the price."

This time, we dined outside on the big covered lanai and enjoyed the evening view of the boat harbor. LovedLove the poke Morimoto-style with vinegar-y Hamakua grape tomatoes and avocado, as well as the most unusually-presented potstickers with a Hamakua grape tomato sauce. Desserts are a work of art."

  • "Saturday came and I was running a little late so I called an hour before our reservation and spoke with the hostess and asked if I could push our reservation by 15min. She responded with "No we can't push it 15min later. We are very booked and next availability we have is 2 hours after. We rushed but made it on time. I was greeted by the same young lady who I spoke with on the phone. She was unfriendly. We ended up waiting 15min for our table to be ready which made upset because I didn't have to rush I the first place. When we were seated the place was a bit empty so I wasn't sure why we waited. Things got better once we met our very friendly waiter. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 main courses, and 1 desert. Taste & presentation was excellent."

  • "The sushi was pretty good. However the miso soup was not very good. First, it was served lukewarm in a large bowl. Miso soup should always be hot, never lukewarm. Secondly, the individual bowls which came with it were oddly shaped and it felt strange to drink the soup Japanese style from the bowls. I guess we were expected to use the Chinese style spoons which came with it but if the restaurant serves Japanese style food the restaurant should cater to those who eat Japanese style. The flavor was decent, but not outstanding. We asked for the soup to be served with the sushi, which is normal, the large bowl took up so much room on the table that the waiter had to bring us the soup first and only brought the sushi after the soup was eaten."

We weren't that lucky but we weren't disappointed - the food was excellent! My husband had the Chef's tasting menu. My daughter a sushi platter, my son the ramen and shared some appetizers and I had the Waygu steak. We will visit next time we are in Hawaii!"

  • "This is the fourth time my boyfriend and I have eaten at Morimoto's. We have sort of made it a tradition to eat there before he goes on a deployment. Everything we have eaten at Morimoto's has been divine, simply the best food I have ever had. The presentation and the taste is exactly what you would expect from the best Iron Chef's restaurant. You can tell that each waiter, bus boy, and hostess has been thoroughly trained in the proper way to serve patrons: with confidence, helpfulness, and grace. When any food item or crafted drink arrives to the table, the server will explain what went into it. No matter the situation, I highly recommend eating here at least once if you have the opportunity. You will not regret it!"

Three of us enjoyed the sushi /sashimi lunch set, the tempura calamari salad, and one of their soft shell crab roll. We also enjoyed the morimoto ginjo sake. We were seated outside. The view is not bad - you are facing the ocean. However, the restaurant is overlooking a marina."

  • "This restaurant is a little loud and uncozy, but the food is worth it! My husband loved his "Loco Moto", an upscale take on the local "Loco Moco". My Surf and Turf was a delicious take on a local style dish, poke, elevated to all new levels, and 6 ounces of one of the juiciest, most perfectly cooked prime filets I've ever had. Our profiteroles for dessert were also tasty. But the real standout was the hot appetizer, the foie gras chawan mushi. The foie gras is cooked directly into the mix and every single bite is an elegant, creamy, buttery heaven. Especially complemented by the dash of wasabi."

  • "the only negative. Soft shell crab sushi appetizer and sashimi salad very good. Deep fried fish was okay, I think it would be better with another sauce rather than the Mabo tofu sauce. It was a tad too bland. I thought the sauce for the buri bim bop was really good. It would be good for the fish too, maybe. All in all a very good experience. Being a Sunday, the restaurant was not busy so the air conditioning was far too chilly for us. I drank two pots of tea to keep warm. We will return with warmer clothing."

  • "I visited this restaurant when I went to Hawaii with my family. I made reservations and told them how I was celebrating my recent graduation from college. When we showed up for our reservation, we had to wait all of 5 minutes, which wasn't bad seeing as they had a wedding reception going on outside. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and made you feel like family. I ordered a drink from the bar, it was very strong, but delicious. Now for the food...the only thing I can say is it is heaven on white porcelain...or a black stone bowl in my case. My mother got the duck, duck, duck...and I have to admit, those spring rolls and duck meatball soup are enough to bring tears to your eyes! I will most definitely be returning!"

  • "We dined here on our first night in Waikiki. We were looking forward to dining there per our friends recommendation. We had a drink at the pool bar of the Modern Hotel for a deconstructed Mai Tai, recommended by our friends and highly recommend a visit there. The ambiance at Morimoto is awesome, very beachy and peaceful. The service was good & we made reservations at 7:00 so we could catch the 7:45 free fireworks. The main courses were ok, it was disappointing as we expected to be wowed. The desserts were the best we had our whole vacation. My husband had the peanut butter chocolate bombe& I had a green tea dessert that was beyond amazing. We would definitely go back to Morimotos as it was one of the better meals that we had all week."

While the food is deserving a white table cloth and a personal butler they casual vibe allows one to relax and really enjoy the experience without concern of being to loud with the ooh & ahhh's when each course arrives. We boastfully jumped headfirst into the tasting menu, while a bit pricey was everything and more that you would expect from a world class chef. Dishes so fresh & vibrant you could have swear the sashimi was still moving..."

  • "My girlfriend and I had a lovely dining experience on a Friday night. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food fantastic and the atmosphere relaxed but trendy. We shared 3 starters and all were lovely, the gyoza and tempura shrimp were particular highlights from the hot starter menu. We then had a main each. It was quite filling. They had a good wine list and sold champagne by the glass at a good price. Overall a lovely special dining experience....my second at this place in 2 years."
