Diner Reviews
  • "A group of us went for a birthday celebration and we had a great meal and a really fun evening. The restaurant has a beautiful design which lends to the fun atmosphere. Our waiter was excellent and also very helpful. Our group shared all of the dishes and everything was delicious. I do prefer the appetizers and main courses over the sushi. This is just a personal preference since the dishes are so creative and inspired. The desserts are works of art and worth a try!"

  • "If you get the salmon it does not even taste like fish. The best salmon I have ever eaten "

  • "Noise level could have been quieted a little with higher partitions."

  • "Food was fair at best. Can get the same quality if not better at a number of places in the area and for a whole less money. "

  • "I had the 8 course chef choice sampling and it did not disappoint. Hats off to the Iron Chef! Food was delicious! I can't afford to eat like this often but once in a while it is worth the treat! Bring your appetite! My eyeballs started popping around course 6. They should give out tee shirts as rewards to the diners that finish all 8 courses. Lol"

  • "I sat at the sushi bar and had the 8 course omekase paired with sake. It was a meal to remember. They serve quite a lot of food and all of it was very good. Pairings were perfect. Service was great--very knowledgable, friendly and attentive. Definitely worth the money, which is saying a lot because it was a $300 meal. "

  • "Food was very good. Catered to the kids very well. Had the duck duck duck. Best duck I have ever had."
    Dined on 4/13/2014
  • "Nice atmosphere, although it's quite loud - all hard surfaces. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The food is what you expect from the iron chef- well composed and well cooked."

  • "This evening was our first time at this restuarant. Making a menu decision was very difficult since so many things looked intriguing. Our waiter suggested the 7 course "tasting menu" which we decided to get. The food was outstanding and was a great way to get a broad appreciation of what Morimoto offers. We will definitely return next time we are in Philly."

  • "We went with the chefs tasting menu. Absolutely delicious, the servers were spot on and extremely knowledgable. The saki was amazing too!"

  • "Simple and elegant place with great food. Food is of excellent quality and there is attention to detail. Plates might look expensive for the portion size, however, the quality is very good."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Try the hot stone bowl - it is a true delight. The sushi is divine too. The Wasabi Fried rice was a good side for the meal. Also, try the lychee martini!"

  • "Been wanting to go for a long time, due to his Iron Chef performances. We weren't disappointed. We chose the 'leave it to us' menu which is pricey, but we wanted a broad sampling. 8 courses, well spread out - were there 2 hours. Our waitress was superb and very knowledgable. Food was mostly seafood and fresh and excellent. I'm a big man and big eater but even for me I think it was just too much. Still, the imaginative pairings or flavors, presentation, and preparation was great. They must make their money on the booze, since a $16glass of wine with perhaps a 6 oz. serving seemed very expensive. I'm a retired minister and likely won't go back simply because of the price - first $400 supper for two we've ever had."

  • "What a great night!!! I dined with a client and my boss and we were all simply delighted, amazed, blown away by how delicious the food was. Also, the staff were friendly, perso able and knowledgeable about the menu. The client said the dinner was the highlight of his entire week-long academic meeting."

  • "Took my wife to Morimoto's for our anniversary, were both very impressed. The service was outstanding, very helpful and friendly. But the food was even better! The presentation was everything we expected. The prices were not outrageous, and we will be going back."

  • "excellent food, very creative dishes, knowledgeable staff, excellent service. Wait staff asked us about allergies and food aversions. Very high Noise level is the only negative."

  • "It's been a couple years since I've been in Philadelphia for dinner and eaten here - little has changed, and that's a good thing! Wonderful sushi/sashimi, but for those a bit squeamish about raw fish, there are great cooked options."

  • "I splurged and got the omakase coursed menu for my birthday. It was expensive but it was worth every penny. There were 8 artfully presented coursed that tasted out of this world. The service was on top of everything. Every time I finished a plate or a glass someone was right there and ready to help me. The sake list was extensive and I tried two very delightful rice wines from Japan. I will be back when I can afford it again!"

  • "We had the omakase and chose to sit at the bar - watching the chefs prepare the raw dishes was delightful and the overall experience was great. The food was very fresh and flavourful with great attention to detail. We didn't know what to expect since it was chef's choice, but we were certainly not dissapointed. Notable dishes included the sashimi plate, tuna tartar, lobster with cajun fusion dressing, japanese wagyu."

  • "Morimoto obviously comes with high reviews. I loved it the first time I came a few years ago, but this last time was just okay. The waitstaff looked unpolished (grubby sweaters, unshaven faces), and the food was good but not great. Despite the high level of satisfaction most diners report, I was left wanting more."

  • "Very modern ambiance and the food was delicious. We asked for the $85 sushi platter and two appetizers and it was sufficient to feed three people. the chef's platter was delicious and they are awesome to put three slices of each fish, one for each person at the table. Definitely worth the money and experience."

  • "My wife and I had the mid-level prix fixe dining option. It was my birthday so we decided to splurge. Nearly every course was very good with our favorite being the kobe beef that melted in your mouth. Unfortunately, we did not get to try any sushi since we were so full from the multi-course fare. What's with the weiner lamp in the middle of the table? If you've been there, you'll know what I'm talking about."

  • "Morimoto never disappoints. I am a die-hard fan of the yosedofu, which I understand is not served at all the Morimoto outposts. Well, I'm glad they serve it in Philadelphia. It's a just a simple yet miraculous dish. Other dishes are fabulous well - I'm glad I got to try more this time. Cocktails - alcoholic and non-alcoholic - were impeccable. Service was definitely up to par. Can't wait to return."

  • "Awesome spot! Little pricey, but worth every cent! I would recommend the Mid-Level tasting Menu."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "We had the tasting menu and it was amazing food, very unique. What was even better was the service and the detailed explanations of each dish. Even the mixed drinks were great- but very expensive. We will definitely go back. I would not recommend for children or those who don't have an adventurous taste for food."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "Even for those of us that love to try new foods, a unannounced tasting menu can be scary. Our waitress first asked for dietary restrictions and I used the opportunity to inform her that sea urchin is one thing that I would be disappointed to see on the tasting menu. Everything was well seasoned, perfectly prepared with two dishes salty but appropriate. Why 4 out of 5 stars? Out of my 8 courses, only 4 were dubbed "I would return for this!" dishes. The scallop ceviche, lobster, sushi and steak dishes were amazing. The other four were good and I have no complaints but they wouldn't bring me back. I wish they would have let the dessert off all together - it was bland and had an unappealing texture. Fantastic wait staff all the way around!"

  • "Christine was an excellent server--very prepared and knowledgeable server. I will definitely dine here again. Great Stephen Starr Restaurant concept!"
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "This is the third time dining at Morimoto (twice here and once in Napa), and I officially declare that I won't dine or recommend to dine here. There are much better sushi and sashimi around for a fraction of price. The food quality for the price was very poor."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "Seriously overrated. The food was okay, the drinks were weak and the service was abrasive."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "It's been a while since we visited Morimoto. We used to go regularly. On this visit, the sushi was outstanding as always. But I was shocked by the watered down cocktails. I usually order one drink, maybe two tops. Both of these tasted like virgin cocktails and I finally ordered a third one. I left without so much as a light buzz. At $14 a piece, this is ridiculous. My husbands were just as bad. The place was packed. You wouldnt think they would need to cheat on the liquor to make a profit here. It was not up to Stephen Starr's usually high standard."

  • "Great food in a trendy sushi restaurant. Great cocktails as well."

  • "My wife is a huge fan of Mr. Morimoto. She wanted a chance to experience his style. The eight course choice was all she had hoped for. The experience is definitely a once in a life time chance for us and will always be a wonderful memory for us. If you are in a hurry you won't make it, the experience is involved but unfortunately is a bit longer than what I am used to. If you have the chance you owe yourself this experience. The staff was all friendly and no one ever walked past a table with empty hands, which is always great to see as well."

  • "Wonderful food and first class service....a must if in Philadelphia"
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "This restaurant was so overpriced for the quality of food. Special surf and turf was tasteless. Sushi was ok. Waiter took 2 1/2. Hrs to serve dinner. Really really not worth it!!"
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "So many of our philly favorites have closed (especially on walnut street), but we're glad to have morimoto around for superbly prepared food, excellent service, and a place that is still in business. we noticed that table availability is getting harder to come by, and now know to make reservations well in advance due to morimoto's popularity. hopefully this restaurant will be around for a long time."

  • "I had heard wonderful things about Morimoto's and I was not disappointed. The decor was so refreshingly unique and calming. The service outstanding. And the food wonderful! Everything from the non-alcoholic drinks, to sushi, entrees, dessert was fabulous. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Philadelphia. We were there for lunch and it was quiet but passed by on a weekend evening and it was full."
