  • "My reservation was at 5. I arrived at 4:55. The restaurant was empty. I was told to wait until 5 to be seated. I ordered a sushi roll and duck duck duck. The sushi was good. The good part about it is that it was the same temperature throughout (the rice wasnt cold like in other places), aside from temperature the taste was not different from the less expensive sushi joints i frequent. The duck however was so bad, it was chewy to say the least and lacked flavor... I had to swallow each bite in 1 piece. The rice that comes with it was average. I would not go there again..."

  • "My boyfriend and I had a great time at Morimoto's restaurant. I mentioned that it was my boyfriend's birthday when making the reservation and every person that we dealt with wished him a happy birthday. The waiter also made sure to explain everything to us and answered all of our questions knowledgeably. The food was outstanding! I got the tempura appetizer and I've never had better. My boyfriend got the toro tartare and couldn't stop talking about it. For our entrées I got the duck which was so tender and delicious. He got the seafood toban yaki and raved about it. For dessert we got the chocolate po de creme which came out with a little candle on the plate for his birthday! I would highly recommend this place for any special occasion!"

  • "Arranged a business lunch at Morimoto when my favorite Buddakan was booked out for a party. I was referred here since it is owned by the same ownership group. Food was fresh and prepared perfectly. Presentation was very nice. Even though I didn't order a salad I was given one since the rest of the party had an order that included one - nice touch. Not over dressed or heavy on the ginger as in most Japanese restaurants. A bit pricey but highly recommended and you get what you pay for."

  • "My husband and I dined her on Saturday night for the first time in 2 years. We have always loved it but with busy schedules & children we haven't been able to into the city as muchh. The thing that stuck me the most was that this was truly a FINE dining experience. I had forgotten what dining was like because it feels like every restaurant these days no matter how big or small, can not bring your food fast enough and the check even faster. There are even several restaurants in the city where we actually don't order our entrees until we get out appetizers because they rush you SO much. Here, we leisurely dined for 2.5 hours with our 7pm reservation on a Saturday night. It was AWESOME!"

  • "2nd time at Morimoto's and we had another fantastic dinner! We had the sashimi and carpaccio for appetizers and the flavors were exceptional. For entrees I had the crispy rainbow trout which came as the whole fish with head-on over a tofu sauce which was cooked to perfection. My wife had surf and turf, with the surf being Hamachi ribbons in a ricardo salad which she loved. For dessert we shared the chocolate pot de creme and the yuzu meringue tart dessert, both of which offered unique flavors that stood out as much as the entrees and appetizers. I would highly recommend Morimoto's to anyone who wants a special dining experience."

  • "I love Morimoto from the cool curvy woods to the mood ring lighting to the amazing food. Had Toro Tartare with Ossetra Caviar, Shrimp Tempura with spicy kochijam aioli, diver scallop carpaccio served in the shell green apple Sauce and herbs , an real Japanese Kobe beef. They sell it per oz at $50 per once well worth it. Wow! My DP had the spicy king crab broiled and we did not care for it as it was messy it was removed from check. We had the best Sushi They can execute flawlessly. We had Chocolate Pot De Creme which had custard and Caramelized bananas. We also were given a plum dessert saki to sample had floral and cherry and almond notes"

  • "Upon entering, you can't help but be in awe of the decor and ambience. I thought that if the food was on par with the decor, we would be in for a great dining experience. However, it was not more than average. Eating early around 6:30, the restaurant was relatively empty yet it took one of a group of servers standing at the back 15 minutes before we were able to flag one to to our table. The drinks were tasty, but weren't even full drinks for their $14 price. And while our bill was around $250 for 3 people, our service wasn't reflective of this. The quality of the sushi was amazing. I just wish the overall experience had matched it. Unfortunately, I would not return to Morimoto as it just does not add up to the hype."

  • "I've eaten here once before, but my most recent visit was w/ my husband for our anniversary. My husband is big on sushi & he loved every piece! I had a tempura roll & grilled salmon that was quite good. If you're looking for a yummy cocktail, I'd recommend the "Dark & Stormy" Yum! Our waiter (Justin) was SO great! He explained the whole menu, made sure we didn't have any food allergies, was very attentive! The only issue I had was everyone taking photos of their food & blinding me w/ their flash! Other than that, it was a wonderful dinner & I look forward to going back again."

  • "I have been to several restaurants. My husband is not someone who eats different things and when he goes to Japanese, he believes teppanyaki is Japanese food. Yeah, well Morimoto's was hands down his favorite place to eat Japanese and he wants to go back. It was amazing! We had an order totaling $150 for two people and we felt it was totally worth it! We have recommended it to everyone we know on Facebook! Our Server was amazing. Even though he was Korean, I won't hold it against him. I only asked his nationality because I am Japanese and I like to see that Japanese people are working in Japanese restaurants. He is Asian and no one would suspect otherwise. He knows his menu! He's just as awesome as Morimoto's!"

  • "I have frequented several Starr Restaurant and my experience last night puts this at the top of my list of Starr favorites. I loved the atmosphere and the food - yellow tartare, rock shrimp tempura and crispy rainbow trout - was delectable. I did, however, struggled with finding my favorite cocktail. (I had the Yasumi and Kari. They were ok.) I ended the evening with Riesling. The service was impeccable. Andrew was affable, proficient and, to have been a new server at Morimoto, was extremely knowledgeable of the menu. He also shared the same passion for Starr Restaurants. I look forward to dining at Morimoto again."

  • "The CHILEAN SEA BASS, and ISHI YAKI 'BURI BOP' dishes are absolutely amazing. But my sister had the SEAFOOD 'TOBAN YAKI' and we both agreed it just wasn't very good. That was a big disappointment b/c it was her first time at the restaurant and she was visiting from Charlotte so we both had very high expectations. The CHOCOLATE POT DE CREME was amazing. So, I guess like every restaurant, there are one or two items to stay away from. If it's your first visit someone at your table should definitely get one of the ISHI YAKI 'BURI BOP' dishes. They cook it in a clay pot at your table so it is entertaining as well as delicious."

  • "Walking in the restaurant and seeing the interior design and incredible lighting for the first time was a magnificent feeling. All of the items that we ordered were fantastic and so was the service. The Oh-Toro was the most delicious toro we have ever had. For entrees, we had the Duck Duck Duck and the Morimoto Surf and Turf. Both of those dishes were also fantastic. We cannot wait to return to Philadelphia so we can return to Morimoto and try more items from the menu."

  • "I was in Philly for the first time last weekend and had been dying to try Morimoto's for years. I was able to get a reservation, and I have to say I was very pleased. The food was typical foodie-food: delicious...but maybe would have liked the portion to be a bit more substantial. Usually at high-end restaurants, the portions get smaller and the prices get bigger...but at a sushi/Japanese restaurant, where the portions are small anyway, I would have liked to see a bit more on my plate considering the over $25-$30 price/plate I paid. The sake flight was $30 for 3 glasses; I'll say I was very pleased with the amount of sake they poured. I had the chef's sashimi plate...the best thing: the salmon with dried cilantro and seaweed...SO GOOD!"

  • "When we arrived, we were seated promptly. Our server wasn't too friendly however he was very knowledgeable of the dishes. We ordered the seared scallops, which was perfectly cooked. I ordered the ishi yaki bop with buri (king yellowtail). The fish was cooked on the clay bowl however it was a little to well done for me even though the wait staff stated that it would be medium rare. We also ordered the rainbow trout and chilean sea bass. Both were delicious. Only suggestion is for servers to be a little happier."

  • "we were so looking forward to this dinner.we got there a little early and went to the bar.it is understated an upstairs.we went downstairs to dinner and everything started well. good,attentive waiter.the food was very good.restaurant 1/3 full. pricey and entrees came out at different times. first of six people came 10 minutes before last and plates got cold. other than staging, everything was ok. buddakan is more consistent and reasonable."
