A word from Morimoto New York
Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant’s entrance features the world’s largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive façade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Second time there and everything was awesome. The wine that I wanted was not in stock but, the other one we picked was great."

  • "Rarely does a retaurant's design, service, and food all hit high notes for me. All four of us in our party found the restaurant to be a stunning, visual masterpiece. Don't remember a time when there were so many taste treats and not a single regret in our ordering. Hats off to the chef, designer, manager and staff."

  • "Black cod on the restaurant week menu is juicy and tender. Everything is a bit on the salty side though. Strawberry shortcake is nicely presented, but more a parfait than a shortcake."

  • "It's hard to judge an expensive place during Restaurant Week, trying to give you a sample of what would normally be much more expensive. My sashimi was superb, but a tiny sampling of 5 kinds. The miso and salad were just so so. But the dessert was absolutely spectacular. It does seem though, even at the special bargain prices, a server could have come by after I was served to notice my tiny skinny glass of iced tea (mainly ice) was empty. It would have been nice to have it refilled -- even when I was finished with my main course before dessert, but no the glass was whisked away. I thought perhaps he was bringing it back filled, but no. End result of the lunch? Maybe I'd go back and pay two or three times as much to get more -- or not"

  • "Nothing last forever. This is still one of my favorite restaurants solely for the quality of the food, but the service seems to have diminished and it really brought down the experience after I was boasting to friends how much they'll like the restaurant. In the end, the food was good, but that wasn't enough for my friends to agree that this is a restaurant they would give another chance. I'm sure I'll be back, but my expectations have come down."

  • "My 3rd time . Food was dynamite service was dynamite. The only problem was they gave me and my party one of the worst if not worst table in the place. I was entertaining clients from outside the US and I was pretty embarrassed. On the good side table was well situated by the toilet !"

  • "My wife and I decided to try Morimoto during our recent outing to NY. Was interested about the restaurant from his presence on the original Iron Chef, where we were impressed with his skill and creativity. To start the restaurant neat part of town and discrete, actually walked by it, very low key entry. Inside, impressed with the Ambience, tan tones, clean lines, seating brings you close to other tables but not on top of each other. Now to the food. The impressions were split. When it came to the main menu items, where the creative dishes are listed we would say the food was very good. I had the Foie Gras and Oysters, was excellent. On the regular Sushi I would say I have had better and for less, this was overpriced for what we got."

  • "Fancy place, but unassuming staff and delicious, healthy and beautiful dishes in the heart of Chelsea -- right by the market, the river, the Highline and the Meatpacking District! Citibike docks close by and subway 2 blocks away."

  • "Food is excellent and reasonably expensive. Service needs a bit of improvement. Overall a great experience! Have to try the Morimoto beers."

  • "This is a restaurant that you never have to miss when you visit NYC like we do. If you live in NYC is the restaurant to visit any time you can."

  • "Went here with two friends on a Saturday night. We did the Morimoto Omakase ($135pp). Food was good, service was better. I would give the food 8/10 and the service 10/10. We were 20 min late for our reservation and yet they kindly accommodated us. The tuna tartare course was cool and tasty. I was not a big fan of the miso fondue dish. I loved the scallop. I wish there was a sashimi course as part of Omakase. My favorite course by far was the lobster and wagyu beef. The wagyu was cooked perfectly. There were 3 deserts! All were good!"

  • "Staff were helpful in insuring that a diner with a food allergy was accommodated. They also moved us to a more private table on a busy Saturday night in order to make our birthday celebration more pleasant."

  • "As an adult with a appetite for fine dining Morimoto's succeeds in every category. Not only was the service superb but eating in a restaurant known for its spectacular seafood, especially sushi and shellfish this place is a knockout. I am deathly allergic to shellfish, even a microscopic piece of shrimp or lobster would ruin my night, the server assured me that I had no worries and he offered to help me find dishes that would absolutely shellfish free and even recommended some sushi that would be very enjoyable. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that It is quite clear why Iron chef Morimoto hardly ever loses, from appetizers to entrees, desserts to drinks everything was outstanding and the prices are right where they should be. A++++"

  • "Went for restaurant week lunch, and had the wonderful steak. The portions are quite large, and the restrooms are out of this world!"

  • "I've been here twice, once for dinner with friends and recently for the restaurant week lunch. Both times the food was outstanding, also the restaurant week menu (which even in very nice restaurants it is usually average and not as good as the regular menu). I strongly recommend the bone marrow as appetizer."

  • "Definitely the place to visit for great food and unique decor. My favorites are the skirt steak and sushi. Oh! Be sure to have the strawberry dessert!"

  • "The reduction on the fish was a bit too salty for my taste. But overall, the food was good and I will come back again, to try something else. Service was flawless and friendly."

  • "Friday July 24th lunch at Morimoto NYC. How good can a restaurant get? Try this food. Experience this service. Fantastic food placed before you in a beautiful motif. If you want to open a restaurant, come here first. If you run a restaurant, come here to improve your place. As my son said as we finished "Dad, we don't have to go any place else. This is IT". After Delmonico's, Gramercy Tavern, and Petrossian (all great meals), it still held true. This is IT. It didn't hurt that it was $25 for NYC 2014 Summer Restaurant Week."

  • "This is a great place if you like a loud, trendy, hip place but don't like eating food. If you don't like sushi, don't come here. We did the whole tasting menu with the paired wines, hoping we would discover why Morimoto is revered as being such an outstanding chef. The tuna tartare was weird but good and fun. The rest was just weird, mostly raw and kind of gross. I hoped the 3 course dessert would salvage the meal but no. Tea flavored tiramisu? I don't think so. I wished we had finished early enough to get the pistachio gelato at Chelsea Market. Dropped >$400 on dinner for 2, but at least everything we have eaten since then we joke, "That's better than what we had Morimoto's.""

  • "We loved our meal! Each course was absolutely amazing. The chef's tasting was a little expensive, but we felt it was worth it. If not the tasting menu then I'd go straight for the sushi!"

  • "the sashimi was great! especially the toro! Was not as impressed by the toro tartare but the home marrow was yummy! the chimichurri and ikura was a great addition that balances the flavors!"

  • "I came here for Restaurant Week in NYC and had lunch there before jetting back to LA. I ordered their sashimi lunch, a piece of O toro, a piece of Chu toro and a crab hand roll. The sashimi assortment seemed fine as well as the strawberry shortcake that accompanied it as well as their special blueberry lemonade. As I waited for my all time fave of toro, I was completely disappointed by the quality and of them. Two measly pieces of toro sushi at $18 per piece!!!! I can get better in LA at a similar type of restaurant for $18 for two pieces!!! I only noticed the prices for the toro when I received the bill as it's always MP. Truly shocked. I asked for a blue crab hand roll and got a regular crab roll that was not blue crab."

  • "Description of the foods on the menu would be helpful. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Moderately priced. Did not feel rushed. Fresh foods. Trendy plating. Needs a pop of color, however."

  • "We have been to Morimoto a half dozen times and have come to realize that it is an overpriced, over noisy factory. The service is faux friendly, the atmosphere faux chic and the food just ok. Not worth the price, unless you are entertaining out-of-towners who will be impressed by the name over the door."

  • "We had lunch here during restaurant week. Our entire experience was wonderful. The food was creative and amazing and the environment calm and unhurried. All, except dessert was served on a tray soon after ordering. I also tried the ramen noodle. Amazing depth of flavor. The only, very minor difficulty is finding the entry, hidden behind flowing drapes on 10th avenue. Highly recommended."

  • "Warmly greeted upon arrival, we were allocated a highly service-oriented waiter who responded to our questions about the cocktails, wines and the menu (our 1st visit to this restaurant) with a warm smile. The quality of the food matched the quality of the service. My husband took the multi-course tasting menu which provided very tasty, interesting options. All the food is beautifully presented. The ambiance is elegant and calm, and we liked the music so much that we mentioned it to our waiter who discreetly informed the manager who came over to explain where we could find the music! We celebrated my husband's birthday here and we could not have wished for more. An exceptional experience & one that we hope to repeat."

  • "Went for the restaurant week lunch, and Morimoto had put their best foot forward, the food was as good quality as you get in their Omakase which we indulge in once a year. Great setting, very good service, super food."

  • "I went for my Birthday with my girlfriend and my two teenage children. We loved the vibe of the restaurant, once they happily moved us from the front room. The service and food quality and presentation of the food was excellent. It was expensive so plan on dropping some serious coin."

  • "I enjoyed our entire experience. The fish was fresh and creatively prepared (Sashimi appetizer and the Sea Bass). The Saki was smooth and complimented the food well. My vegetarian dining companion was accommodated with changes to dishes to provide her more choices- and we both loved the tofu appetizer, which is prepared table-side. Dessert was interesting and delicious! (we had the monkey bread & a hazelnut cake- both came with unique ice cream and were a great end to our meals) Importantly, our waiter was fun, helpful, and attentive. We were never rushed to eat our food- our dinner lasted a leisurely and entertaining 3 hours. This is a dining experience- not just a meal- and it was an experience I very much enjoyed."
