Morimoto New Yorkoutstanding dishes,Serviceoutstanding dishes,Service was well-timed and friendly,6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMmixed reviewWe tried the omakase dinner. The sushi and sashimi were outstanding. Other dishes were only good. Lobster with Indian spices did not make it. Our waitperson was very knowledgable and friendly. Stick with real Japanese dishes6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBest sushiMorimoto never disappoints. Freshest ingredients, great service, beautiful ambience. Five stars all the way.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had ordered omakase forWe had ordered omakase for tow and everything was fine except raw clam sushi. It had sand in it and my husband had to spit it out. Such a spoiler for a perfect evening...6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingThe title says it all. My fiancé and I loved everything about it6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThree times in two weeksI was in New York on business for two and a half weeks. I went to Morimoto the first weekend and I just had to go back before I left. Not only was the food superb, presentation was brilliant and the service outstanding. Ambience was also outstanding. I went back the following week and then again right before I left. Highly recommend it. I've been to Morimoto Napa and I loved it, but I like the New York one better. It's more organized, the layout is easier to navigate, and the portions seem to be bigger.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA+I've been to morimoto in both Philadelphia and New York and to countless Steven Starr restaurants. Always a delightful experience.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing serviceThe lady who served us was absolutely amazing. The explanations and recommendations makes you want to eat more. Each dish she recommended was exquisite. Would definitely go there again next time I'm in New York.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistantAs always, we had an excellent meal at Morimoto. I have tried almost everything on the menu and there is nothing that I would not try again. The food is always spectacular and you will always get it the same way, every time.
Well done Chef Morimoto!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic ExperienceOur night at Morimoto's felt like more of a dining experience than a simple dinner. We had the Morimoto Omakase (the chef's special), and received course after course of interesting and beautiful food. We also had a wine pairing flight and found some great new wine options we loved. Overall there were courses we both loved and courses we were less thrilled with, but part of the fun of the experience is trying new things. The sashimi was our favorite course - it was brilliant - followed (of course) by the sushi and the dessert course (a kind of mango soup). My husband ordered a cognac at the end of the meal and was pleasantly surprised to receive a large snifter with a generous pour (not stingy here).6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMNot there yetFirst half of Omakase was great (up to the intermezzo). Exciting variants of Japanese food. Magical sushi. The American style surf and turf main course was nothing special. Skip it and continue as before the intermezzo. Great dessert!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food & Versatile DiningHad the 6 course tasting menu and everything was superb. However it is possible to eat great food here without breaking the bank as there a lot of sushi, sashimi and noodle options reasonably priced. Service is attentive but not intrusive. The bar has some very interesting and innovative cocktails.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOmakaseCame here from my girlfriend's birthday and we went with the Omakase menu - people will stare at you. The presentation of the dishes when they deliver them to your table will attract attention from the surrounding tables. The food itself? It's what you would expect from the Morimoto: fresh, high-quality, unexpected combinations, and best of all, delicious and flavorful. The fish melt in your mouth.
Definitely come here for a special occasion or to impress. The dining area and is modern with an Asian influence and dimly light which adds to a either a romantic or cool vibe depending on who you're with. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. It's sushi/seafood - stick with the white wines.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMso.freaking.good.Ordered the toro tartare, the king salmon and the sashimi plate; the king salmon was to die for.
The service was amazing and our waitress really helped with the choice of entree!
Would recommend and return!
Also check out the chelsea market before going there!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's Morimoto's!!!!It was a fantastic dining experience and we will be going back again. Everything was spot on perfect from the drinks at the bar to the food, to the service. They certainly deserve 10 points for presentation, 10 points for taste, and 10 points for originality. I am not going to say try this dish, or that dish, because all of them that we tried exceeded our expectations. Go. If you know who Morimoto is you will not be disappointed.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic experience - amaizingWe had a menu degustation and were a best dinner in our live! Congratulations for all!5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Nice! The food there was outstanding.
Loved the shrimp tempura sushi, it was perfection.
The time to get seated was a little slow even with reservations, but I didn't mind.
Atmosphere is very nice, loved the style, but slightly too chilly.
Waitresses seem very intimidating at first, but they warm up to you eventually :)
A must go if you love japanese food and want to go out for a very nice dinner.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is excellent and well-presenteFood is excellent and well-presented. The sushi is fresh and plentiful.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat foodGreat food and great service. Wait staff is always present and well knowledged of all all items on the menu. Definitely try this place.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect All Around ExperienceGreat place to take a date or someone that you care about. The place is beautiful inside! Make sure that you sit in the main dining room area upstairs. Highly recommend the Rock Shrimp Tempura (best rock shrimp I've ever had), Spicy King Crab, and of course, Morimoto's famous Toro Tartare. Stay away from the Gyoza. I'm a huge huge foodie and dumplings are one of my favorites food and this was extremely disappointing. The presentation of the dish is gorgeous but the dumplings themselves aren't good at all and come with some type of salsa. Place is definitely not cheap but if you enjoy great food, you won't be disappointed.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolute Menu!We had the omasake menu for the whole table. The food was vibrant, unbelievably tasty and creative. Recommend it to everyone who is not on a budget or wants to celebrate a special occasion like we did.
The service forgot a drink order, but otherwise, was impeccable.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything promised was deliveredWonderful experience. We put ourselves in the chef's hands and were not disappointed. Not your typical Japanese restaurant/Sushi bar experience, nor would you want it to be. Everything was clean, fresh, interesting and outrageously good, The presentations while outstanding were exceeded by the flavors. Not inexpensive, but worth it.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingDelicious Amazing Perfect. We did the Chef's Tasting. The plating was suberb, each one was like a work of art - just aethestically beautiful. The flavors were unbelievable. Just perfect. The best meal ever.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat for special occasionsgreat for special occasions and for a Morimoto experience. Definitely a splurge or if you're looking for a hot spot. Service is beyond excellent.. always attentive and open to explaining and addressing any questions you might have.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMfood presentation is worldfood presentation is world class as well as service my only criticism is that the tables for 2 people are too close together and there is no privacy. It is also my view that bookings say from Open Table may be given a not so favourable seating location.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMfabulous! Were here for our anniversary. Everything was great especially the FOOD! Wished there could be more space between the two people tables (we sit way too close to the neighboring tables ^0^)5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAMAZING!!!I really enjoyed the service, food and atmosphere!
Wonderful!!
Recommend for all Brazilian tourists who enjoy Japanese food.
Thank you!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial New York City diningI took my granddaughter to New York for her 25th birthday, and she requested that we eat at Morimoto's. It was outstanding. If I lived in New York City, I would eat there often5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAs expected, the food wasAs expected, the food was great and the service was impeccable. Great for special occasions.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMModern JapaneseWe booked this restaurant well in advance prior to commencing our holiday from Australia. Glad we did! The food was excellent, as was the service. I recommend the lobster fritters and the sushi. My partner enjoyed his very tender wagyu steak which was cooked to perfection. Totally recommended and would visit again when we are in NYC.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food - service is decentNOTE: My boyfriend and I went here at 11:30pm on a Friday night, so I'm sure the service at a more decent hour is much better. It was fairly decent, but not spectacular or what we were expecting for the prices. It took us a while to get our drinks, and then all of our food came immediately at once (again, that makes sense as the kitchen was about to close so I get that). Absolutely gorgeous atmosphere, albeit a little loud (and some of the tables are ridiculously close together so not very romantic), but we ended up sitting at the sushi bar and that was a total delight. The food was melt-in-your-mouth good, especially the toro tartare (lives up to the hype). Expensive, but worth it!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinnerThe Waygu beef carpaccio had a light flavor enhanced by the micro cilantro, the Lobster fritters were full of flavor. I had the Duck Duck Duck and each duck was amazing in its own way. The Iron Chef soup was light and had clean flavors and the White Lilly Martini was ADDICTING and had to stop myself at 2. I would make the drive again from Louisville, KY just to eat here.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMit was great but....It was great but I didn't like the seats they gave. Seating next to the wall when there is the next table right next to u and u can overhearur conversation plus hear us. That was uncomfortable5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing experienceI definitely would like to return to this place it was really good. The sushi with soft crab was really good . Toro tuna tartar is a must. Service was just perfect. Everyone was polite and smiling. And they know the menu so good that you can rely on their recommendations. I was there with m husband celebrating our anniversary and even the manager came to congratulate us.
From the desert menu I will highly recommend strawberry cheesecake.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSublime, Subdued DiningThe Wagu Beef Bonito Box for lunch was delightful. My waitress charming, efficient, professional.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNot that greatI don't think the food was all that special, and it's very overpriced. Granted, I had a couple of maki rolls, but I have enjoyed high-quality, creative maki rolls in the suburbs of Chicago too. My companions who had the trout enjoyed it. I guess if I had tried something less typical and more unique to Chef Morimoto's culinary POV I might have been more impressed.
The assorted appetizer was scanty and very overpriced. The cocktails and wine were OK, again nothing special. Dessert was good, but not mind-blowing.
The setting was lovely, the plexiglass screens really did cut down on the noise level, and the location was great. I enjoyed getting together with a childhood friend and his partner more than dinner itself.
I will not return.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, Again!Second time here. Sushi was top notch -- and I've had sushi fromTokyo to LA to London. Creative other appetizers. Service was friendly and Very professional. This den of great food is worth it. Can't wait to come again.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Excuse to CelebrateMy party was celebrating two birthdays and the staff was wonderful. We were slightly overwhelmed with how quick and attentive the service was - but in a good way. The food was amazing, while we did not go for the omakase this time - we were very pleased with our selections and next time will make a point to get cooked food! The presentation of each dish was superb and we just could not stop eating. Wonderful time had by all.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOMG, Omakase!Always a great meal and the surprises never end with the Omakase meal. It gets better every time!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMEclectic menu, with an unusalEclectic menu, with an unusal interpretation of many sushi standards. The Morimoto 7-course tasting menu seemed a bit overpriced for $125, especially since the portions in each course were tiny. Seven courses sounds like a lot until one sees how little food there is. The ambiance was modern and energetic and the service was excellent. We must have had nearly 10 staff members serve our meals and politely explain what everything on the plate was. The presentation was definitely a sight to behold. Very creative and colorful.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing!!I took my partner their on our anniversary. We went on a Monday night and made reservations. It wasn't packed, but we weren't able to get a table to see the kitchen. The staff was amazing, very professional. We ordered 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. At least 5 different people brought us food, and each one explained what we were about to eat. The waitress was very kind and answered all of our questions perfectly. It was a perfect night! The food was wonderful and expertly explained both before and after we ordered. I can't say enough good things and we will definitely go back again, and recommend to friends!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a family reunionThis was a family reunion dinner. We had a wonderful time at Morimoto. Enjoyed amazing food and a great sake! Domo arigato gozaimasu4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMFood always outstanding, butFood always outstanding, but the service needs improvement!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrateCelebrated my son's choice of college. He called it the best dinner he has ever eaten. Morimoto proves why he is an Iron Chef4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food, amazing room.Amazing food, amazing room. The Omakase is incredible.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPricey but worthwhile. Don'tPricey but worthwhile. Don't bother with rolls or any maki type dishes that you can get anywhere else. Stick with the unique dishes like tuna pizza and toro tartare.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative, artistic JapaneseCreative, artistic Japanese cuisine, using the freshest ingredients. Had the Morimoto sashimi for appetizer - interesting tastes and high eye-appeal, spicy salmon roll as an intermezzo - nice, nothing that special, and had the miso sea bass with Japanese eggplant and avocado tempura - the fish was prepared perfectly, delicious from the first bite to the last, the eggplant and avocado were nice side dishes to match the fish, though the tempura was a bit on the soggy side. Overall, an excellent meal. Sat at the sushi bar and that was a show. Nicely decorated.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved everything. Must tryLoved everything. Must try the Duck, Duck, Duck! Special dessert that night was Monkey Bread with bananas, banana cream, nd banana chocolate chip ice cream - absolutely fabulous!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent - Waiters recommendationsExcellent - Waiters recommendations were spot on! It was cozy and energetic at its best.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI have always wanted to dineI have always wanted to dine at Morimoto NYC. Chef Morimoto is one of my favorite chefs of all time. It was my mother, her boyfriend and my first time. Staff was informative when I asked questions about the menu. Helped alot with food decissions. Food was delicious. Ambiance was very nice. I can't wait to come back again4/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
