Morimoto New YorkAs expected, the food wasAs expected, the food was great and the service was impeccable. Great for special occasions.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMModern JapaneseWe booked this restaurant well in advance prior to commencing our holiday from Australia. Glad we did! The food was excellent, as was the service. I recommend the lobster fritters and the sushi. My partner enjoyed his very tender wagyu steak which was cooked to perfection. Totally recommended and would visit again when we are in NYC.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing but ruinedThe only reason why I gave this a "fair" was because we were seated for about a half hour then literally (I asked) a party of 37 was seated next to us, ruining our dinner and those around us. They were loud based on sheer numbers so we ate as fast as we could, skipped another glass of wine, dessert and tea and ran out of there. It was supposed to be a nice dinner for two that was ruined by having such a large party seated in an open area (vs. a private room or sectioned off area). The ambiance, service and food was good, I suppose but we were so disappointed, we didn't enjoy a thing. What a waste of time, money and an evening out. We won't go again.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinnerThe Waygu beef carpaccio had a light flavor enhanced by the micro cilantro, the Lobster fritters were full of flavor. I had the Duck Duck Duck and each duck was amazing in its own way. The Iron Chef soup was light and had clean flavors and the White Lilly Martini was ADDICTING and had to stop myself at 2. I would make the drive again from Louisville, KY just to eat here.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMit was great but....It was great but I didn't like the seats they gave. Seating next to the wall when there is the next table right next to u and u can overhearur conversation plus hear us. That was uncomfortable5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing experienceI definitely would like to return to this place it was really good. The sushi with soft crab was really good . Toro tuna tartar is a must. Service was just perfect. Everyone was polite and smiling. And they know the menu so good that you can rely on their recommendations. I was there with m husband celebrating our anniversary and even the manager came to congratulate us.
From the desert menu I will highly recommend strawberry cheesecake.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSublime, Subdued DiningThe Wagu Beef Bonito Box for lunch was delightful. My waitress charming, efficient, professional.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNot that greatI don't think the food was all that special, and it's very overpriced. Granted, I had a couple of maki rolls, but I have enjoyed high-quality, creative maki rolls in the suburbs of Chicago too. My companions who had the trout enjoyed it. I guess if I had tried something less typical and more unique to Chef Morimoto's culinary POV I might have been more impressed.
The assorted appetizer was scanty and very overpriced. The cocktails and wine were OK, again nothing special. Dessert was good, but not mind-blowing.
The setting was lovely, the plexiglass screens really did cut down on the noise level, and the location was great. I enjoyed getting together with a childhood friend and his partner more than dinner itself.
I will not return.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDisappointedI requested a specific table a week ahead of time and was not given the table, that is my only complaint. Being seated where we were, took away from our dining experience.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, Again!Second time here. Sushi was top notch -- and I've had sushi fromTokyo to LA to London. Creative other appetizers. Service was friendly and Very professional. This den of great food is worth it. Can't wait to come again.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOMG, Omakase!Always a great meal and the surprises never end with the Omakase meal. It gets better every time!5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Excuse to CelebrateMy party was celebrating two birthdays and the staff was wonderful. We were slightly overwhelmed with how quick and attentive the service was - but in a good way. The food was amazing, while we did not go for the omakase this time - we were very pleased with our selections and next time will make a point to get cooked food! The presentation of each dish was superb and we just could not stop eating. Wonderful time had by all.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMEclectic menu, with an unusalEclectic menu, with an unusal interpretation of many sushi standards. The Morimoto 7-course tasting menu seemed a bit overpriced for $125, especially since the portions in each course were tiny. Seven courses sounds like a lot until one sees how little food there is. The ambiance was modern and energetic and the service was excellent. We must have had nearly 10 staff members serve our meals and politely explain what everything on the plate was. The presentation was definitely a sight to behold. Very creative and colorful.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing!!I took my partner their on our anniversary. We went on a Monday night and made reservations. It wasn't packed, but we weren't able to get a table to see the kitchen. The staff was amazing, very professional. We ordered 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. At least 5 different people brought us food, and each one explained what we were about to eat. The waitress was very kind and answered all of our questions perfectly. It was a perfect night! The food was wonderful and expertly explained both before and after we ordered. I can't say enough good things and we will definitely go back again, and recommend to friends!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a family reunionThis was a family reunion dinner. We had a wonderful time at Morimoto. Enjoyed amazing food and a great sake! Domo arigato gozaimasu4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrateCelebrated my son's choice of college. He called it the best dinner he has ever eaten. Morimoto proves why he is an Iron Chef4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food, amazing room.Amazing food, amazing room. The Omakase is incredible.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPricey but worthwhile. Don'tPricey but worthwhile. Don't bother with rolls or any maki type dishes that you can get anywhere else. Stick with the unique dishes like tuna pizza and toro tartare.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative, artistic JapaneseCreative, artistic Japanese cuisine, using the freshest ingredients. Had the Morimoto sashimi for appetizer - interesting tastes and high eye-appeal, spicy salmon roll as an intermezzo - nice, nothing that special, and had the miso sea bass with Japanese eggplant and avocado tempura - the fish was prepared perfectly, delicious from the first bite to the last, the eggplant and avocado were nice side dishes to match the fish, though the tempura was a bit on the soggy side. Overall, an excellent meal. Sat at the sushi bar and that was a show. Nicely decorated.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved everything. Must tryLoved everything. Must try the Duck, Duck, Duck! Special dessert that night was Monkey Bread with bananas, banana cream, nd banana chocolate chip ice cream - absolutely fabulous!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent - Waiters recommendationsExcellent - Waiters recommendations were spot on! It was cozy and energetic at its best.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI have always wanted to dineI have always wanted to dine at Morimoto NYC. Chef Morimoto is one of my favorite chefs of all time. It was my mother, her boyfriend and my first time. Staff was informative when I asked questions about the menu. Helped alot with food decissions. Food was delicious. Ambiance was very nice. I can't wait to come back again4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was excellent,Everything was excellent, the steaks were really wondeerful. Ida for any occasion.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I recentlyMy husband and I recently dined at Morimoto on a quick trip to New York. Although the food was fantastic, the service was slow and I can only describe the waiter's demeanor as disinterested. Overall, it was worth the trip.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMI personally liked a lot thisI personally liked a lot this restaurant.
The lamb carpaccio was outstanding and it was so good I went twice during my stay in NYC , definately coming back on my next trip to NYC.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDignity of service and excellenceFrom the time I entered the door, until the time I exited it, the experience was delightful. It was as if Morimoto's took the "we are ladies and gentlemen, serving ladies and gentlemen" motto to heart as well. The food was meticulously well made, quickly, by skilled craftspeople, and served by people who knew the menu and how to guide folks through it, without intrusion. It was a joy to dine there, and I'll do so again, turning what was a "bucket list" item into a "visit-to-NY checklist" item. Expensive, and worth every penny in the way that things of quality are. I could've had sushi for half the price elsewhere, but not had the experience. It was a little noisy, but it's a crowded popular place!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingThis is one of the best restaurants to have sushi and not only sushi. The food was fresh, delicious, the waiter that we had was extremely helpful. He suggested food, explained how to eat some of the menu items we ordered. Our group had people who do not eat sushi or raw fish and we were able to find variety of other menu items to enjoy for lunch. Definitely will be coming back despite that the restaurant is a little pricey.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food! BeautifulWonderful food! Beautiful presentation. Everything you'd expect from an Iron Chef...including the price. (Yow!)
We had the tasting menu, which apparently differs based on how many times you've been to Morimoto's. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the entree: The lobster was supposed to be spiced with garam masala, but all of the spice was on the outside of the claw, and not in/on the meat. Other than that, a wonderful experience!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappoints. Not a cheapNever disappoints. Not a cheap date, but worth every penny.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOur meal here was absolutelyOur meal here was absolutely one of the best meals I have ever had in my life. From start to finish, every dish was exceptional. Our waiter was amazing, incredibly helpful, and very attentive. The cocktails are outstanding, the food was inspiring, and the ambience was lovely.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding service and veryOutstanding service and very cool ambience. However, this is really mostly pseudo-Japanese food for Americans. Too many dishes with main ingredients that are not part of the traditional diet and too many deep fried menu items slathered with gloppy mayonnaise sauce.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMReally a treat. First timeReally a treat. First time at restaurant. Very pleased. Will return.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and great waiter.Great food and great waiter. We had to wait 50 minutes to get seated though.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second trip toThis was our second trip to Morimoto New York, and it did not disappoint the second time! We had the tasting menu and wine pairings, it was an incredible meal. One thing that I would change though, is that the tasting menu was exactly the same as it was when we were there June 2010. We assumed it would have changed over the two years, but it has not. But it was still amazing!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWhere very accommodating whenWhere very accommodating when we hit traffic and showed up late. Even rushed the food for us because we had a show to make4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMUNBELIEVABLE!Honestly, one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. I love good food - about 90% of the time I'm excited about a hot restaurant or a celebrity chef's place, I'm disappointed. This time is a major, major exception. Morimoto's was so good, I really can't say enough good things about the experience. The beef carpaccio, chili shrimp appetizer, and black cod ... all were simply spectacular. I will go back the next time I'm in NY and get the exact same thing. Do yourself a favor and try this place!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMPrixe fixe lunch. Outstanding. GrePrixe fixe lunch. Outstanding.
Great Feng Shui.
Can't wait to try dinner.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNot the first time there,Not the first time there, decor beautiful, unfortunatley our table was in a bad spot, we awere celebrating my doughter that is very fond of the palce. Food good but not outstanding great effort in the presentation.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMNice!Nice food, and pretty relaxing environment!
Will come back again.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMMorimoto - More Morimoto please!Made a reservation for 7:15pm and was impressed that we were seated right away rather than the usual waiting game. Service was attentive throughout. The omakase is a must try! 7 courses, each speaks to the chef's talent with flavour, fish, and play on textures. I would come back each and everytime I come to NYC!!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome place, experience, not so..Don't get me wrong, you will never go wrong with Morimoto. The iron chef pulls menu to the very limit. Let's be honest... if I order a $60 12oz beef, I am expecting a 12 oz piece of meat that's worth $60, not a small piece of beef that's not worth even half of the price. The sushi/sashimi is nothing extraordinary, is just regular sushi/sashimi you can get anywhere else, but at a fraction of the price. And again, if I need a manual on how to eat a plate, literally I don't need to eat that plate. Most interesting things in the menu are like that, the rest is a normal japanese bistro, but at a much large price. In the end, the experience was fantastic but if dinner for 2 cost $255, I will expect something more.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, fresh food withExcellent, fresh food with great service. Upscale atmosphere was perfect for a romantic birthday dinner. Definitely recommend the Buri Bap!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAll the waiters are actors,All the waiters are actors, meaning handsome and they know it, but their confidence spills over to the menu, as every recommendation made was delectable. Cocktails--light and vibrant (try the White Lily), and even the simplest sushi roll (spicy tuna) was the perfect cut of fish-- by far the best my family and I had ever eaten. The tempura rock shrimp comes in both a Japanese curry sauce and jalapeno sauce-- both were amazing--forget the ranch dipping sauce. Wagyu beef carpaccio is a can't miss-- so delicate and delicious. Get a few main courses and share--especially the Black Cod which practically falls apart and melts in your mouth as it has apparently been marinating in Miso for 3 days. Have Moscato for dessert with the "tofu" cheesecake.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place and great location.TheGreat Place and great location. The fresh guacamole is so good and the staffs are very friendly as well.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious! Was everythingFood was delicious! Was everything I expected it to be.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMYum!One of the best meals I have had. Our server was also very good and worked with us making sure we could sample the menus in a way that worked best for us. Plan on spending quite a bit to truly enjoy the many different flavors and dishes.
Highly recommend the chefs tasting menu, of course. Additionally the toro tartar, wagyu beef carpaccio, and crispy rock shrimp tempura were exceptional. The sushi was good, but comparable to high quality sushi at less expensive locations.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMExcelent place to stay. GorgeousExcelent place to stay. Gorgeous architecture and food.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing all aroundMy wife and I had an awesome lunch here today 3-18-13. Our server Andrew was great. We wanted to try everything so Andrew helped answer all our questions in wonderful detail. My wife had the avocado roll for a starter and who knew something so simple could be that much better than most others she has had. She followed that with the Wagyu Cutlet Sandwich which she loved. I started with the Spicy King Crab which was prepared with a sauce to die for. I followed by Seafood Toban Yaki which was amazing. this dish had lobster tail, tender and fresh sea scallops, littleneck clams, mussels and shrimp some shavings of a large mushroom underneath it all and topped off with a leafy green. The only thing off was the whole shrimp were overcooked.3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat an amazing night! HadWhat an amazing night! Had been to morimoto philadelphia years ago but this was our first in NYC! Treated to two different omakase meals at our request. Each course was creative and delicious. Also had the opportunity to have authentic Japanese wagyu, which was delicious, succulent! Our server Delilah was sweet, attentive and informative, Each bite was incredible! Loved my blueberry drink, the sakes and complimentary sparkling rose!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMCompletely satisfied!I have to say, it was an awesome dining experience. I had a group of eight, including 2 kids. Must say, Our server Dalila stepped up, making sure we experienced the best of the chef's offerings while still making the kids and old folks comfortable.
Great food, great service, 100% recommended.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
