A word from Morimoto New York
Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant’s entrance features the world’s largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive façade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.Continued

  • "great food and drinks. wait staff really know their stuff and can recommend menu items that suit your mood and appetite! pricey but worth it for a special occasion."

  • "This place has it on point from decor to the food! A very trendy hot spot and has sushi that is beyond good! This is my new fav resturant!"

  • "This was my first time at Morimoto in NYC having been a number of times in Philadelphia when it first opened there. I have to say I was disappointed. The food was good. Pretty much the same menu as always. But, the restaurant was filled with bridge and tunnel types talking in loud voices about how they don't eat things that are gelatinous or about how many times they've been to Morimoto, etc. The compensation was our server who was truly outstanding. Most of the food was very good, though the badly prepared spicy tuna roles in the sushi sampler were really a shame. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's not even a nice looking space. Too bad! The tofu made at the table was a treat and the special dessert also stood out."

  • "I am a huge Sushi fan and since eating here I cannot eat sushi anymore as it will never be as good! We sat at the Sushi bar and the food looked as good as it tastes. We ordered the Rock shrimp to start followed by Sushi and Sashimi. We enjoyed this so much we never go onto order a main. It is by far the best sushi I have ever had, which makes the price reasonable I believe. The service was amazing and our hostess was very helpful in what quantities to order. I want to return to NYC just for this restaurant! Please open one in London!"

  • "Food was okay, a little disappointing. Should I really have to ask for steamed rice as a side when my dish cries out for some. Black Bean sauce in halibut needed a bit more guts and there's no freebies such as a bread stick to be seen. Also, tempura rock shrimp whilst being nice, you wouldn't know you were eating shrimp if it wasn't in the name of the dish as the shrimp flavour was lost in the tempura batter."

  • "This place has a ton of positive impressions so another shouldn't be a surprise. The food was amazing, the vibe of the place was really cool. It has a great bar & specialty cocktail list. The bathrooms are an experience. And the food was fantastic. Our waitress was incredible. I don't remember the name but she took time to explain the menu to us and was very knowledgeable about the items on it. The food was amazing. Toro tartare was a nice refreshing start. We enjoyed the Duck Duck Duck and a 10oz Wagyu filet. The au jus was incredible. And the bread pudding desert was a great way to cap it off. Expensive yes, but one of the few places where we felt the cost was worth the experience."

  • "Second time to this Morimoto restaurant, also been to the flagship in Philly. The food is great and so is the service. Try the Bluefin Toro, this to die for. Had the special Australian Wagyu beef, this is huge 3-1/2 lbs this to share. Waiter was outstanding and very helpful. Will surely return and continue to explore the menu. Also be on the lookout Morimoto shows up unannounced and greets his guest.although he was not there this time, I'm sure we shall see him again."

  • "We were gifted this dinner to celebrate our engagement and it was as special as we were told it would be! Food was out of this world and we will not forget it. Highly recommend!"

  • "Food was impressive and service was above and beyond. Our waitress Rachel was amazing. The service we recieved was as if she was the owner. The food was top notch to match the service which made my dinner one of the best experiences so far with open table. Can't wait to go back. The sea bass was cooked so perfectly and the spicy king crab appetizer blew my mind."

  • "A friend and I chose this restaurant to dine at for our first time in NYC and it did not disappoint. Diners ranged from trendy 20-something's to families to the after-work Manhattan crowd. Service was very attentive, quick, and efficient. We tried the rock shrimp app and it was hands down the absolute best thing we had that night. The wagyu beef carpaccio app was very good as was the California roll. The Australian wagyu steak melts in your mouth, once you commit to the price (wagyu was $60-$160) it was truly the best steak I've ever had. The buri bop entree was good but not my favorite, the sesame sauce made it a little too sweet for my liking. Overall great food and service and decent pricing for the upscale trendy restaurant that it is."

  • "Although service started out a little slow. We enjoyed our first dining experience at Morimoto New York. The server was accommodating when my boyfriend wanted to enjoy the omakase while I wasn't up to it. Thank you for making our last night in New York a night to remember"

  • "Bombastic lunch deal 28$ for a foodies perfectly made fish. Exotic tasts and beutifule decor. Best show in town. Beter then ever expiriet (Jean georgs, boley, Gotham etc. )"

  • "Our server was very helpful in answering questions about the menu. I ordered the spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail sushi and it wasn't very spicy. I hate to admit it, but the sushi at our local restaurant, Simon's Sushi, was much better. The flavor of the sushi rolls was pretty bland, as was the seaweed salad. I loved the green salad and the pickles. Can't really rate the miso soup, because I am not a big fan of miso soup, but my friend said it was excellent. My friend got the vegetable tempura and it was very tasty. I especially enjoyed the peppers, since my friend doesn't like peppers. They had a very good flavor. It was a nice meal, but I probably wouldn't order the sushi rolls again."

  • "Brought a client and few friends there mid-week as it's reputation was very good. Food was creative and delicious, staff was very friendly and efficient, atmosphere was upbeat but no too loud for conversation. Expensive but not overly so, but definitely worth the money, especially for a special occasion."

  • "Okay, this is a namesake restaurant of an Iron Chef. We had sushi and it was great. All very fresh and well presented. Our server, Toran, made the meal fun."

  • "Three appetizers. One House salad. One drink each. One roll. Two pieces of sashimi. One dessert. $200!!!!! Well it is beautiful space food and service.... Are you kidding me??? Even Nobu is cheaper. Any other place $100-$120. What was all excellent it easy Millway worth the money. It's unfortunate since that's local."

  • "We came from out of town and made reservations a while beforehand. The food was delicious and the environment is great for a dressy, romantic dinner. Service was outstanding - my water glass was never empty and the waiter really knew his stuff."

  • "We have wanted to go to Morimoto for years. We have been fans of his since we first saw him on the Japanese Iron Chef 15 years ago. We ordered the Chef's Tasting & it was one of the top 5 best meals we have ever had! The presentation was gorgeous, the service was excellent & so were the cocktails & the sake. We went to celebrate our son's 22nd birthday & will go back very soon. We have already recommended Morimoto to several friends!"

  • "The only problem is which amazing item to select off the menu. I want to try what I Ioved the time before but also want to try new things....such a dilemma. Thank you for another great evening."

  • "I have to start by saying I don't eat sushi or red meat so if you love sushi or steak you might think this place is the cat's pajamas. My companion ordered sea bass, which was delicious, but I ordered kombu chicken, which was problematic for a number of reasons. First of all it was way too salty, there was supposed to have been a sweet potato (yam?) side dish and it was just a little swish of yam, and the piece of chicken was huge compared with the sides. My friend loved her martini and we had a delicious apple bread pudding, so that kind of saved it."

  • "We have been to the Morimoto in Hawaii and now in NYC. The food and service was excellent, but I would have to say not as good as the Morimoto in Honolulu. For one thing, they did not have the Morimoto Mojito, which is my favorite drink when I go to the Honolulu location. Why on earth don't you have it - it is the best Mojito I have ever had!"

  • "This was my second time dining at Morimoto and I was just as pleased as my first time. The food was superb, and while the waitstaff were clearly busy we were willing to wait a bit longer than usual for the delicious fare. All four of us were pleased with our choices which included the cod, chicken, and steak. We all shared the phenomenal cheesecake soufflé for dessert, it is a must!"

  • "This was my first visit to Morimoto's New York location. The King Crab appetizer was outstanding as well as the Sashimi. The Soy Sauce had mellow depth and fragrance that I've never experienced. It was wonderful. I highly recommend."

  • "Food was excellent!! It seemed like a hot spot, Great cocktails as well!"

  • "Not the same quality experience you would expect from a Morimoto like the one in Philly. The seating arrangement in front of the Restaurant feels more like an overflow space which does not allow you to enjoy the true Morimoto ambiance. Motimoto NY did not have Wasabi rice on their menu which is the very reason why I decided to go there. Furthermore, none of the waiters knew that such rice existed nor seemed to care to add it to the menu. The quality of the main dishes that we ordered wasn't impressive as it is in Philly. I understand how different versions of one Restaurant may have different themes or specialties but clearly Morimoto NY's menu is 90% of what you see in Philly and thus my surprise with their not having the Wasabi rice."

  • "The place is very clean and the service is excellent. It also have a very romantic atmosphere. The food is very good as long as you didn't order the Crispy Kombu Brined Chicken because you will be extremely disappointed. Aside from that everything else is great!"

  • "Cool modern vibe with unique cocktails and amazing cuisine! The courses just kept coming"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "The restaurant is incredible in terms of food and decoration, wouldn't be a restaurant I would frequent too much because its quite expensive but the food is worth it. For a special occasion this is THE place. Alaskan King Crab and Cheesecake Souffle greatly recommended as well as the Duck Duck Duck."

  • "We ordered the meal where the chef prepares 7 or 8 different courses, every one of them was incredible. We went for my 50th birthday and it was perfect. To top it off, we had THE hottest waitress of all time. Expensive but well worth the experience"

  • "Four of us were in NYC for a mini family reunion and to celebrate our birthdays. We were given a great table next to the sushi bar with incredible views of the fresh fish and immaculate preparation area. The omakase meal was creative, delicious, well-paced and satisfying in every way. The staff was well-trained and knowledgeable about each course. The sake recommendations were excellently paired with the fish. The restaurant itself is visually amazing, and the staircase down to the bar is worth the round-trip. Morimoto made this evening a very special evening for our visit to NYC."

  • "I went here to celebrate a birthday and the food was exceptional. We had the omakase menu but mentioned we already had it a few times. It was great since the chef decided to make some new experiences. I am glad we had the omakase since it gave a good variety of tastes. I must warn that at 135 a head you must make this an event to go eat and not something you would casually decide to do."

  • "Our daughter who goes to school in Philly, has introduced us the to the restaurant world of Steven Starr, so were excited when Open Table had a 8 pm opening. The minute we sat down we had one of the most informative and pleasant waiters we have encountered anywhere in NYC. His recommendations were perfect; the food was sublime. All I can say is that I have never tasted such fabulous sushi. It was melt in your mouth delicious. We plan to go back to try the tasting menu as soon as we can secure another hard to get weekend reservation. The couple next to us, as well as our waiter raved about it."
