A word from Morimoto New York
Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant’s entrance features the world’s largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive façade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "not our 1st time but as always a celebration of amazing tastes with great atmosphere and service . The Best"

  • "Went here with two friends on a Saturday night. We did the Morimoto Omakase ($135pp). Food was good, service was better. I would give the food 8/10 and the service 10/10. We were 20 min late for our reservation and yet they kindly accommodated us. The tuna tartare course was cool and tasty. I was not a big fan of the miso fondue dish. I loved the scallop. I wish there was a sashimi course as part of Omakase. My favorite course by far was the lobster and wagyu beef. The wagyu was cooked perfectly. There were 3 deserts! All were good!"

  • "Staff were helpful in insuring that a diner with a food allergy was accommodated. They also moved us to a more private table on a busy Saturday night in order to make our birthday celebration more pleasant."

  • "As an adult with a appetite for fine dining Morimoto's succeeds in every category. Not only was the service superb but eating in a restaurant known for its spectacular seafood, especially sushi and shellfish this place is a knockout. I am deathly allergic to shellfish, even a microscopic piece of shrimp or lobster would ruin my night, the server assured me that I had no worries and he offered to help me find dishes that would absolutely shellfish free and even recommended some sushi that would be very enjoyable. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that It is quite clear why Iron chef Morimoto hardly ever loses, from appetizers to entrees, desserts to drinks everything was outstanding and the prices are right where they should be. A++++"

  • "Went for restaurant week lunch, and had the wonderful steak. The portions are quite large, and the restrooms are out of this world!"

  • "I've been here twice, once for dinner with friends and recently for the restaurant week lunch. Both times the food was outstanding, also the restaurant week menu (which even in very nice restaurants it is usually average and not as good as the regular menu). I strongly recommend the bone marrow as appetizer."

  • "Definitely the place to visit for great food and unique decor. My favorites are the skirt steak and sushi. Oh! Be sure to have the strawberry dessert!"

  • "This is a great place if you like a loud, trendy, hip place but don't like eating food. If you don't like sushi, don't come here. We did the whole tasting menu with the paired wines, hoping we would discover why Morimoto is revered as being such an outstanding chef. The tuna tartare was weird but good and fun. The rest was just weird, mostly raw and kind of gross. I hoped the 3 course dessert would salvage the meal but no. Tea flavored tiramisu? I don't think so. I wished we had finished early enough to get the pistachio gelato at Chelsea Market. Dropped >$400 on dinner for 2, but at least everything we have eaten since then we joke, "That's better than what we had Morimoto's.""

  • "We loved our meal! Each course was absolutely amazing. The chef's tasting was a little expensive, but we felt it was worth it. If not the tasting menu then I'd go straight for the sushi!"

  • "the sashimi was great! especially the toro! Was not as impressed by the toro tartare but the home marrow was yummy! the chimichurri and ikura was a great addition that balances the flavors!"

  • "I came here for Restaurant Week in NYC and had lunch there before jetting back to LA. I ordered their sashimi lunch, a piece of O toro, a piece of Chu toro and a crab hand roll. The sashimi assortment seemed fine as well as the strawberry shortcake that accompanied it as well as their special blueberry lemonade. As I waited for my all time fave of toro, I was completely disappointed by the quality and of them. Two measly pieces of toro sushi at $18 per piece!!!! I can get better in LA at a similar type of restaurant for $18 for two pieces!!! I only noticed the prices for the toro when I received the bill as it's always MP. Truly shocked. I asked for a blue crab hand roll and got a regular crab roll that was not blue crab."

  • "Description of the foods on the menu would be helpful. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Moderately priced. Did not feel rushed. Fresh foods. Trendy plating. Needs a pop of color, however."

  • "We have been to Morimoto a half dozen times and have come to realize that it is an overpriced, over noisy factory. The service is faux friendly, the atmosphere faux chic and the food just ok. Not worth the price, unless you are entertaining out-of-towners who will be impressed by the name over the door."

  • "We had lunch here during restaurant week. Our entire experience was wonderful. The food was creative and amazing and the environment calm and unhurried. All, except dessert was served on a tray soon after ordering. I also tried the ramen noodle. Amazing depth of flavor. The only, very minor difficulty is finding the entry, hidden behind flowing drapes on 10th avenue. Highly recommended."

  • "Warmly greeted upon arrival, we were allocated a highly service-oriented waiter who responded to our questions about the cocktails, wines and the menu (our 1st visit to this restaurant) with a warm smile. The quality of the food matched the quality of the service. My husband took the multi-course tasting menu which provided very tasty, interesting options. All the food is beautifully presented. The ambiance is elegant and calm, and we liked the music so much that we mentioned it to our waiter who discreetly informed the manager who came over to explain where we could find the music! We celebrated my husband's birthday here and we could not have wished for more. An exceptional experience & one that we hope to repeat."

  • "Went for the restaurant week lunch, and Morimoto had put their best foot forward, the food was as good quality as you get in their Omakase which we indulge in once a year. Great setting, very good service, super food."

  • "I went for my Birthday with my girlfriend and my two teenage children. We loved the vibe of the restaurant, once they happily moved us from the front room. The service and food quality and presentation of the food was excellent. It was expensive so plan on dropping some serious coin."

  • "I enjoyed our entire experience. The fish was fresh and creatively prepared (Sashimi appetizer and the Sea Bass). The Saki was smooth and complimented the food well. My vegetarian dining companion was accommodated with changes to dishes to provide her more choices- and we both loved the tofu appetizer, which is prepared table-side. Dessert was interesting and delicious! (we had the monkey bread & a hazelnut cake- both came with unique ice cream and were a great end to our meals) Importantly, our waiter was fun, helpful, and attentive. We were never rushed to eat our food- our dinner lasted a leisurely and entertaining 3 hours. This is a dining experience- not just a meal- and it was an experience I very much enjoyed."

  • "My wife and I attended Morimoto's (NYC) for a special dinner experience and our expectations were exceeded all around. From the entrance to the traditional seating configuration to the wonderful server it was truly an excellent experience. When I walked into the bathroom I said right out loud "wow". Having been a fan of Chef Morimoto for a long time I have looked forward to this meal and had relatively high expectations. Again, my expectations were exceeded. The omakase menu was great, definately filling and we were always looking forward to the next dish. I would go back without hesitation!"

  • "Our food was very good, and interesting. One member of our party is gluten-free and there was a miscommunication between the server and the kitchen on one of his choices, but it got sorted out. Another member of our group was in a wheelchair, and the restaurant was very accommodating. When I booked the reservation through Open Table, I put that in the reservation book, and the restaurant did take note; for those of you who wonder if the restaurant reads those notes -- this one did."

  • "First time here so we ordered the omakase as recommended which was good but the main course was a bit disappointing the waygu was only a thin slice and lobster was still in its shell (not a fan of that, especially a place at this level) they tasted good but not as great as I imagined. The best part of the main was the potatoes that the waygu sat on, sweet savory and soft absolutely delicious. Everything else was superb, the scallop, the hamachi and sushi all really good. I would recommend doing only sushi and sashimi in place of the main course (but I do want to try the duck duck duck)"

  • "It is a real dining experience. If you like Japanese food, this is worth the splurge. It is a step above. The fish is as fresh as can be. The variety is there. The wait staff was so helpful. I highly recommend trying it."

  • "Started with server. Asked what sushi was good. Of course he said it was all good. Sat at counter, had no contact with the sushi chef (that's what sitting at the counter is all about) and was served mediocre fish. Warm dishes were fine."

  • "Excellent dining experience, as always. Morimoto never fails to deliver. Fantastic for dates, anniversaries, and other special occasions. And Anna is simply the best host ever."

  • "Reservation made through open table for 10:45. Initially offered seating in the back of the restaurant. We asked for a different table and were provided a better seating. First waiter went off duty after taking our order without letting us know. Our light dinner took over an hour to be served and the restaurant was not that busy. Our new waiter was not around much and not very attentive. We ordered a bottle of wine and the wrong bottle was brought to the table. We had amazing service a few months earlier but after this weekend would probably not go back when there are so many great places to go."

  • "The food and ambiance were amazing. All it's hyped up to be. Our service was average. I would have expected much better from such an expensive restaurant. Our server took about 5 minutes to cork and pour our proseco - to the point it was uncomfortable. They cleared my friend's salad plate but not mine. I had to ask for it to be cleared even though it was clearly set aside. And when they brought the bottle of soy sauce for our main course, there were 3 drops left in the bottle. We sat for several minutes with our entrees already served waiting to flag someone down to ask for more soy sauce. Small complaints, not worth mentioning to a manager, but I expected better from a place with $30-60+ entrees."

  • "Morimoto's never fails to please. I had the Chef's choice in Philadelphia and was blown away. Decided to check out the New York location and ordered items off the menu. I had the uni and bone marrow for appetizers... and the Duck, Duck, Duck for the entree. Everything was outstanding. The uni was fresh and the duck succulent."

  • "We almost passed on Morimoto because of some of the reviews (who writes these things?) but glad we didn't. It was definitely worth every penny. The food was amazing (beef carpaccio, seasonal sashimi, deconstructed tiramisu and more). The wine list was a nice mix of everyday and special occasion bottles. Definitely hit the 20 year tawny port with dessert - well worth the splurge."
