A word from Morimoto New York
Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant’s entrance features the world’s largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive façade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Morimoto is wonderful. The food is amazing, service is great!"

  • "We almost passed on Morimoto because of some of the reviews (who writes these things?) but glad we didn't. It was definitely worth every penny. The food was amazing (beef carpaccio, seasonal sashimi, deconstructed tiramisu and more). The wine list was a nice mix of everyday and special occasion bottles. Definitely hit the 20 year tawny port with dessert - well worth the splurge."

  • "The raw scallop appetizer was so delicious and also beautiful - looked like a work of art. All of the sushi was fresh and delicious and the service was great. Expensive, but worth it for NYC."

  • "This was the greatest dinner, from start to finish. We shared the Rock Shrimp Tempura appetizer, then had 3 different entrees for main course - all of them delicious: halibut with black bean sauce, surf and turf and seafood toban yaki. We usually share a dessert, but they sounded so good we each ended up getting one: the apple bread pudding, mori-monkey bread and the matcha tiramisu - again all delicious. The atmosphere is great, too...and the wait staff very efficient. Even the bathrooms are something you need to see. Yes it's expensive, but it's well worth it. We will definitely go here again next time we're in New York. Definitely the best meal we've had in a very long time."

  • "Had a great experience. Food was awesome. Loved the sea bass, halibut and the filet. The banana bread dessert was killer."

  • "This is a restaurant for nice, comfortable, casual evening (though not cheap) in the city. We took a few recommendations from our server who was very good with the menu details and very accommodating. The food was really good - met my level of expectations. But honestly the one item that really surprised me was his famous Iron Chef soup. This is a must-have while you are there, but the bowl is for sharing. It is really good and was more than two of us needed. I would recommend it!"

  • "I've been to Morimoto NYC for dinner twice. Both times the ambiance, service, and food were flawless. The meal was presented beautifully and was prepared with a high level of culinary excellence. The atmosphere is chic without being intimidating. I highly recommend this venue for a special night out."

  • "Had an outstanding meal for the second time. Service was excellent, courses were well paced, and the food was delicious. Amazing sushi and unbelievable gyoza."

  • "good as always!!!! my favorite restaurant!!!!! I just love it!!!!!"

  • "I Guess that a bill worth $500 (party of two, + some order to go) was not good enough to earn a good service. We spent a full hour waiting for a tuna pizza + sashimi to-go, and when it finally arrived, they didn't bother to place napkins, soy, anything in the bag…."

  • "This was our second time at Morimoto, and the food was excellent, especially the bone marrow and tofu served table side. Service was friendly and not rushed."

  • "Nice ambience, went there to celebrate my birthday and they made it special! The food is very good!"

  • "Nice space, but the food was lackluster and overpriced for what you get. With so many fantastic restaurants in NYC...try another."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "Amazing doesn't begin to describe my experience. I sat at the sushi bar and got to watch as they prepared my lunch. It was, by far, the best sushi I have ever had. The service was prompt and very professional. I wish I could give it more stars"

  • "We were excited to be there because of our previous experience at Morimoto's Napa restaurant. This place had a very different feel and was less 'hands on' so to speak. A few times, we wondered where our waiter was. We had long gaps between food arrival and waiting for glassware, dessert etc... it was a bit of a disappointment. The food was good as always, but the service lag really affected our overall meal. I'd hesitate to go back."

  • "We had a wonderful experience and would recommend a visit if you love creative food. You must also visit the ladies bathroom downstairs while you are there. It's beautiful."

  • "Our group ordered the Omakase and the food was excellent. Great presentation and great food. The timing of the food was excellent and absolutely well timed. Although 7 course do not seem like much, it was a great tasting of several dishes. Service was excellent."

  • "Unfortunately my husband meal had a hair in it and ruined the rest of the evening."

  • "When you visit a restaurant titled with the name of an Iron Chef, you expect the highest of standards. Morimoto did not disappoint. All I can say is to make sure you add this to your list of must try restaurants in NYC."

  • "disappointing meal at typical great spot. The sushi was ust not up to the usual standards"

  • "I am an F&B manager for a boutique hotel in Costa Rica and this past trip to NYC was specifically designed around food. I went to other NYC restaurants, unfortunately I found Morimoto to be just OK. I asked for the sushi selection at lunch and although the plating and execution of the sushi was flawless, the fish was not the freshest. I decided not to ask for anything else after that. I paid a total of $57 for not so fresh fish... not a good thing."

  • "Trendy and a bit expensive but you pay for outstanding cuisine. We enjoyed our experience and lived up to expectation."

  • "Booked a reservation for my best friend's 30th birthday, party of 3. From the time we entered, we were given fantastic service, in the beautiful space, which was neither too crowded nor too loud. Our server was extremely cheerful and professional. We ordered the kakuni and the Morimoto sashimi, which was intricately plated and delicious. I ordered the Duck duck duck, and my companions ordered the Surf & Turf, and Ishi Yaki Buri Bop. We shared and every dish was delicious and cooked to our specifications. They also brought over complimentary asparagus and a small dessert with a candle for my friend's birthday. This was the best restaurant experience I have had in NYC for a long time."

  • "Food is really good. Fresh, broad alternatives. Strongly recommend the chef's menu. Ambience is also quite noteworthy."

  • "Made a reservation to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and they greeted him with a happy birthday upon entering the restaurant which was a nice touch. Waiters and staff are all super friendly and polite, so service was exceptional. Get the soft shell crab appetizer and toro tartare, they are delicious! Sushi was fresh and the chirashi came with a very generous portion. Drinks were so-so and overly priced for NYC so not sure I would go there just to drink. They even came out with a surprise dessert at the end of our meal which helped round out the excellent experience. Would go again for a special occasion."

  • "Beautiful presentation and even the simple spicy salmon maki, was so tasty. The toro tartare is a must!"

  • "Whenever we come to NYC we try different restaurants accept we always go to Morimotos. It is our first dinner stop as we talk and think about eating there from the moment we book our trip. The food is amazing as well as the staff."

  • "The curse of the celebrity chef is that everyone goes in expecting the world. It this case it full delivered. For an appatizer we ordered the diver scallop carpaccio and two sushi roll. Both were 5 star. For mains we had the black cod in soy reduction and my wife had he surf and turf. Wonderful on all counts. Dessert was green tea bread pudding, another hit. Both service and atmospher were subperb"

  • "The food has always been near flawless, but lately the service has been on par with food (read: amazing/perfect). I frankly think they are losing money on the omakase. Anyway, it's fun to go to a restaurant who is getting everything right."

  • "was not as good as last time I went. Miso soup was too salty and too much."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "We have been to Morimoto's flagship restaurant in Philadelphia many times. We celebrate our foodie son's (along with his foodie parents) birthday every December, always having the omekase. We dined at lunch here and were delighted to be forced to try some different experiences. The toro tartare takes a very different interpretation here with a colorful palette of accompanying sauces. The miso glazed roasted bone marrow was another new experience. Both appetizers were clearly popular this lunch time. Finally I was introduced to the Uni Ikura Don which generously highlighted my favorite roe. We'll still be at Morimoto Phila. come Dec. but will back to his NYC on our next visit to NYC."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "We had the omakase to commemorate the times we had gone to Morimoto's restaurant in Philadelphia over 10 years ago before he opened in nyc. Comparing then and now, we could appreciate Morimoto's continued creativity and how his technique and vision has developed over this time. Thanks for a great night!"

  • "My husband and I truly enjoy Morimoto's! We ordered the chef's tasting menu (7 courses) and most of the choices were fantastic! The evening was made even more delightful and wonderful dining experience by our server, Alice. Alice had a lovely demeanor and keep a keen eye on each and every table making sure that her guests were well taken care of, she truly was outstanding! The ambience is totally beautiful and the noise level was fine...we were able to have a conversation at our table even though the music and a full house, there was not an empty seat in the entire place! (And on a Tuesday night!!) We will go back!"
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "The appetizer was amazing but the main course was a little deceiving."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Morimoto is a place in a very nice neighborhood with great food. The tables are a little bit close to each other thats why we asked to sit at the bar and that was a great decission. Because it was very nice to see how the food is made. The chefs are so serious and passionated with their work. The food was outstanding good!"

  • "Fantastic meal. Presentation and attention to detail very impressive!"

  • "We sat at the counter and ordered the chef's tasting menu, I can't imagine a better way to experience Morimoto. The Toro Tartare was a work of art and like nothing I've ever tasted. There wasn't a bad course to be had and the sake/wine pairings were perfect."

  • "Compliments to the entire Morimoto team. From the moment you enter this restaurant your senses light up. the design is breath-taking. As large as the place looks at first glance, it become intimate as you sit down at comfortable table, you feel you are part of popular place but you are also protected and by yourselves in a small glass enclosure. The service is wonderful, friendly and helpful. The waiter was knowledgeable and accurate in his suggestions. There was something for everyone on the menu and I would, if I could afford it eat their regularly come back and try something different each night. It's not cheap but worth every penny."
