Diner Reviews
  • "Having eaten at Morimoto's first restaurant (Philadelphia, 2000), I was expecting a lot from his Napa restaurant. I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant oozes thoughtful design, using lots of materials in their natural state. It is soothing, low-key luxury. The restrooms echo the restuarant's design, although they are a bit underlit. The food was spectacular. The fish was very fresh and so silky it dissolved on my tongue. The house sake is smooth with a sweet hint. We sat at the sushi bar, had a small sushi plate and small sashimi plate. The chef told us that fish arrives every day from all over the world, which is why it is so fresh. The presentation is classic and the sushi the best I have had outside Japan. The donuts are AMAZING!"

  • "This has become an annual event for us at this time of year. We had seen a review about 6 months ago, stating that the quality of food and service had dropped off substantially. Nothing could be further from the truth. We were greeted warmly by everyone we met and were seated promptly. We always do the Omakase tasting menu, since the chefs come up with something that's different each time. The ingredients are all fresh, prepared simply and elegantly, and the balance of flavors and textures always amaze us. Service was very efficient and friendly as well. It was a very nice way to cap our anniversary off. We'll be back next year!"

  • "food was good-- it was just really loud, which is difficult if one of the diners is hard of hearing. wait stuff supremely informed and super helpful and kind."

  • "I am a long time sushi eater and this was the best sushi experience I have ever had. I tried many new types of fish that I was unfamiliar with and had a couple of types that I had not like previously. Very good experience."

  • "Stopped here for lunch on our way into Yountville. Sushi was fresh and cut very nicely. Overall, food and experience was great."

  • "The food is exotic and service is great . However, I was a little disappointed about the décor and ambience of the restaurant this time. It lacks colors and a substantial theme. Therefore, unable to create excitement . I recall their Hawaii restaurant offers a better dinning atmosphere. All in all it is still a very good restaurant . Comparing with the NOBU Group , Morimoto's restaurants are way much better in terms of food and service."

  • "If your group is adventurous, don't get the same food! Share bites, you'll get to taste more this way. Bone marrow is a must-have."

  • "This was a great way to end our day of wine tours. We opted to order a bunch of appetizers, allowing the 2 of us to try a variety of dishes. It was our best idea ever. We tried 9 different dishes. You cannot go to Morimoto's without having the Tuna tartare!!!! The best bite ever was the Kakani...it was life changing! The cheesecake souffle was the perfect ending to our great dinner. Can't wait to go back."

  • "It was a good place with lots of options. we enjoyed the food but the ambience was rushing. Lots of people and lots of conversations."

  • "For a world-famous chef, one would think his restaurant would have world-famous service, but I've had better service at Applebee's than at Morimoto Napa. Our server might have said 4 words to us throughout the meal, and hardly paid any attention to us. 20 minutes after we had ordered, our server had yet to come by to our table. My wife and I were about to leave, when finally her beverage showed up, but mine did not. It took another 10 minutes for him to tell us that they were out of that type of beer. When the food finally did come, it was good, but very obvious that it had been sitting out for quite some time. Never going back there again."

  • "We trusted our waiter's suggestions and every bite was wonderful. The place is too noisy to have a romantic dinner but the food was lovely and our waiter was happy to guide us through the menu."

  • "Way over priced for the quality of the food & service. In my opinion, you're paying for the name."

  • "its actually our fourth time here. we love this place however it was my first time to bring my baby and they don't have changing diaper table in the rest room.. poor baby.. also, the sea urchin carbonara is a little salty.. but the octopus carpaccio is to soo good, its so delicious. the rest was also ok."

  • "Morimoto Napa...we were expecting an excellent fine dining experience, but it was elevated into the best meal we had ever eaten in thanks to one person: Crystal. Our waitress was fantastic and served us in a timely and warm manner, making us feel comfortable and at home. All of the other wait staff were equally personable and attentive. If I could have given 6 stars for service I would give them 8. Crystal was in fact so memorable, my party of three has still not forgotten her name, nor how great it was to be there! Oh, and the food is phenominal as well!"

  • "We had been to this restaurant many times since they first opened. During the early times the food was spectacular as was the presentation. This time around, some of our favorite dishes were removed from the menu, which is understandable. The new dishes, however, were uninspired and quite pedestrian. It now has a feel of a place which stopped trying and is producing dishes we can get anywhere in bay area. The food is fresh, but neither the taste, nor the presentation are any longer there. We ended up leaving most of our mains without eating them."

  • "Going out for a special occasion at a nice restuarant many things are assumed. Expensive drinks, expensive food, and additional fees. We received all of this at Morimoto; what you also plan on getting is exceptional service, excellent drinks, and excellent food. Unfortunately this is something we didn’t receive. The service was terrible, slow, not knowledgeable, and inconsistent with the food preparation and presentation. If you are in Napa for only a couple nights I would scratch this spot of your list it is not worth it. If you are there for more than it may be worth the time and money to see if you experience was better than ours."

  • "I brought two of my friends here who were visiting from out of town. The food was great and lived up to the hype- our table had the angry chicken, pork chop, tuna pizza, and a variety of side dishes and cocktails. However, we were extremely disappointed with the service (or lack thereof) Anthony provided to our table. He unenthusiastically gave recommendations when we asked for them and hardly ever came by to check on our table. We had to flag down someone else to bring us our check. The worst part was that Anthony gave exceptional service to his two other tables on either side of ours.]Since moving to the Bay Area six months ago, this was by far the worst service I've received anywhere. So sad!"

  • "Morimoto was a disappointment. Shared two appetizers and an entrée. First appetizer was sashimi with five sauces. Good, but layering five different fish together meant tasting none individually without dissecting the dish. Second was shrimp tempura, served two ways. Shrimp were tender but so covered in sauce that the tempura batter had lost all crispiness. It was served with ranch dressing and celery sticks. Buffalo shrimp? Entrée was a seafood stew. The dish was VERY spicy hot, not so much as to be inedible, but the flavors of the individual seafoods were completely lost in the heat. This is not an innovative take on Japanese dishes. There was no subtlety at all, just a blast of seasonings and heat. Wouldn't go back."

  • "While this meal was good, it was not nearly as spectacular as Morimoto in NYC. The service was fine but not special, the sushi was also very good but not mind-blowing, and the atmosphere was nice but not particularly special. The signature tartare app was definitely the highlight of the meal."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "The server seemed knowledgeable. You can get specialty items, such as bone marrow. The tempura was a bit salty. The room is wide open, which makes it loud and difficult to have conversation."

  • "Love watching Iron Chef Morimoto on FoodNetwork! We were excited to finally try his restaurant. We came with high expectations, but left disappointed. The food wasn't as tasty and satisfying as it looked. Presentation was nice, but flavors were bland for the Duck Confit Fried Rice. Sticky Ribs and Braised Black Cod were better, but still just OK. Service was terribly slow; server spent most of his time entertaining customers at the bar. He didn't even bother to bring us the check. A friend and his wife happened to visit Morimoto the same day. They ordered the salmon sashimi, rock shrimp tempura and other sushi choices, and said they were amazing. Maybe we will try again with the sushi and sashimi menu on our next visit."

  • "We made reservations about 3 months before our trip, at the last minute we got a call that they needed to change our reservation for the following day because they were having a special event and were going to be closed. We agreed, but we would of liked to receive notice sooner, so that we could of changed the reservations that we had that night at a different restaurant. All in all the food was great, the server was amazing and the view is awesome. Be prepared though, it is extremely loud in the restaurant."

  • "The bar staff were unfriendly and talked loudly to their own friends and dumped drinks down for guests rather than serving them. The manager was informed and he was dismissive almost of the situation. This is a friend hires a friend there situation, it's not about hiring the best people they can find. The younger wait staff were very good. Sushi is garage level sushi. Other courses are fantastic such as the Toro Toro. Morimoto was eating there himself which was shocking the bar staff didn't seem to care. the whole thing was classless. Please fix the air conditioning, it does not have to be blasting cold."

  • "We had a fabulous dinner including hot and cold appetizers and Sashimi. Each dish was unique and very flavourful. We also had a Sake sample that was interesting to try with the different dishes. The Smores dessert was a treat to end our feast. Highly recommend this restaurant for an experience in flavours."

  • "This is not a restaurant I expect to go to often so I splurged on the 8-course tasting menu and it was worth it. Everything was fresh and delicious and it was enough for me to allow my two dates to try some of everything as well. The ambiance is more casual than I was expecting and the decor is dated but that isn't why I went so its okay. Definitely go to Morimoto if you want delicious fresh fish."

  • "Appetizer: Kakuni - must try! Portion is small but it's very flavorful and after you finish you don't feel like it was small at all. Pork gyoza - bacon foam is incredible, albeit a little disturbing (bacon flavored... foam?). That said it's actually a really great dish, very creative. Spicy tomato sauce underneath compliments well. Sushi - they add salt to the rice, so if you don't like salty sushi avoid all Entree Angry chicken was just... meh. Nothing too special. Wagyu flatbread - really good! Great combination of flavors. Desserts - Didn't order any since none seemed too good"

  • "We tried the omakade. It's a bit pricey but well worth it! The tofu cheesecake is dreamy. They took their time in bringing each course. If you think it's slow, let your server know. It took us three hours but we were vacationing so it didn't bother us!"

  • "You would think someone as famous as morimoto would produce a restaurant with high caliber food and service. Then you arrive at morimoto napa and realize that tv chefs are just that. The hot/ cooked is almost comparable to a bad Panda Express. The only tasty dish was the raw dishes, and for a restaurant of "iron chef caliber" to mess up a raw dish with no real perpetration, would be mind boggling. All in all don't come here because of what you see on tv, the famous chef is not there to ensure your experience as if you could have imagined. The food lacks favor and passion, the service is on par to a disgruntle chinese take away restaurant."
