Diner Reviews
  • "We dined outside do to the noise level inside. We wanted to talk to each other. Sitting outside proved to be a great choice. It was a warm evening. We dined on a Tue. & the Resteraunt was full."

  • "Food are amazing!!! Really had a great evening dinning experience!!"

  • "The setting was marvelous. The service was exceptional. The food was unique. And our experience was highlighted with the appearance of Morimoto, himself."

  • "We had the Chefs tasting menu, and they even allowed a substitution. 4 of the 8 courses where spectacular. I would recommend but the service was a bit lacking."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "I attempted to order the omakase, 8 course dinner but found out unless your whole table orders it, they will not prepare it. If you're with a large group, good luck convincing everyone to put down 120$ per person. This was going to bey only trip to this restaraunt ever, and couldn't order the thing I wanted...."

  • "This was the first time I have ever had true Japanese cuisine and all my expectations were definitely met. Morimoto Napa is greatly recommended."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "The food is excellent, the service is top notch and we had the exceptional privilege to see the Iron Chef, Morimoto, himself in action. We had no idea he was in town but enjoyed watching him interact with his fabulous staff."

  • "We celebrated my wife's birthday recently and it was a pretty bad experience. We are locals and have eaten here several times with no issue. Make no mistake the food is great but I think the fact we had our children with us had a negative effect on our overall dining experience. From the moment we were seated, we were treated differently from our previous experiences. To order, my wife had to actually hale the server and even after that it was a struggle to order more food/drinks. This is Napa and even in the low end restaurants you get excellent service but for a such a high-end place the service/experience was disappointing (and a bit frustrating)."

  • "The food here is absolute phenomenal! It is worth the price tag for a special occasion. Just be prepared to sit and enjoy it, the service good but slow. It is also extremely loud inside. I am still dreaming about the food though."

  • "Great food but not talking permitted due to noise level!"

  • "I had a great experience here at this restaurant. The food tasted delicious. The staff was friendly and nice. I will recommend this restaurant to everyone."

  • "We were excited to enjoy dinner at Morimoto. We started with two appetizers-- Chirashi (delicious, incredible fresh), and the hamachi tacos. YUM. My black cod miso was delicious. Alas, my wife's dish was extraordinarily spicy (not marked-- be sure to ask waiter!). Instead, she tried the duck meatball soup. Which shockingly, was terrible. Like someone dumped a bottle of soy sauce in to broth terrible. And then to add insult, the meatballs were spicy. So weird inconsistencies. The cocktails were terrific. Some dishes amazing. But uneven. The manager was nice, the server nothing special. I was hoping for more."

  • "While we ate at many spectacular restaurants in Napa, this was our favorite. It had a large menu that the waiter expertly helped tailor to our desires for the night. We ended up getting the gyoza with bacon foam as an appetizer (best gyoza we have ever had), a large platter of sashimi, and a tuna entree that was seared table side. Every bite was spectacular, and we wished we had room to sample many more things from the menu. For this caliber restaurant, the price point for everything was also fantastic. We will definitely be back the next time we are lucky enough to return to Napa!"

  • "My husband and I were excited to try the omakase tasting menu($120 each) with wine/sake pairings ($90 each). Some of the dishes were very tasty, others were extremely underwhelming, our surf in turf was inedible. Several dishes were served without any utensils because the service staff were too busy and the food runners seemed not to notice. Our server was polite and obviously knows how to execute, but was so busy her check backs were barely audible as she passed by, hindered further by the absolute roar in the restaurant. Also, the wine pairings are extremely over priced! Sonoma cutrer? Really? Aside from feeling that far too much was spent on a so-so meal, morimoto is simply too busy to execute a tasting menu properly."

  • "Morimoto is an excellent sushi restaurant. All of choices were very good and the service was awesome. We especially liked the Braised Octopus!"

  • "Me and the family came here on the weekend, my second time here but the first time my 9 y/o daughter came. The food was great as expected, the presentation as well. I had the flight of 4 Sake's with my Surf and Turf dinner and it was delicious. I will return. Btw, the salted caramel tarts in the front of the restaurant are awesome. Pick up some small treats before you leave"

  • "Sat outside on the patio. View was ok, but beautiful night to eat outside. The tenants in the apartment above the restaurant have a balcony overlooking the patio. They were wrapping up a barbeque when we sat down, so they were sort of noisy and kept glancing down at the diners. I was happy when they went inside. Otherwise, excellent food and excellent service. Would definitely return, but will likely sit inside next time. Loved the sake flight and the braised black cod was my favorite dish of the night."

  • "Food was okay, definitely over-priced for its quality/portions. Server was very friendly and energetic, had some good recommendations on the menu. Not a big fan of their specialty mixed drinks, wine prices very over-priced. Sushi platter was main disappointment, it was good, but not any better than what we've had at 1/2 the price. Appetizers are main draw for us to come back, was fun to try several unique items. Ambiance is also good, but not great, a little too loud and open for our liking. Not a place we would choose to go for a romantic evening, but would be a fun early dinner setting to unwind on the riverfront before strolling around downtown for the night."

  • "We had an early dinner before our Uptown concert. Second time we've dined at Morimoto, and the sushi was wonderful. Also loved the spicy green beans and (especially) the fish taco appetizer. Prices are a bit on the steep side. Conundrum is our wine of choice with this food."

  • "We opted for the Omikase with wine pairings. This is a 3 hour gastronomic experience of a lifetime. There were at least 10 courses sampling from every part of the menu. The wine pairings were spot on. If you order just one thing make sure it is the Toro Tartare. This is the quintessential Morimoto dish. Some have mentioned the noise level. It is a bit noisy, but wasn't bad the night we were there. Top five meal of a lifetime."

  • "This has become an annual event for us at this time of year. We had seen a review about 6 months ago, stating that the quality of food and service had dropped off substantially. Nothing could be further from the truth. We were greeted warmly by everyone we met and were seated promptly. We always do the Omakase tasting menu, since the chefs come up with something that's different each time. The ingredients are all fresh, prepared simply and elegantly, and the balance of flavors and textures always amaze us. Service was very efficient and friendly as well. It was a very nice way to cap our anniversary off. We'll be back next year!"

  • "Having eaten at Morimoto's first restaurant (Philadelphia, 2000), I was expecting a lot from his Napa restaurant. I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant oozes thoughtful design, using lots of materials in their natural state. It is soothing, low-key luxury. The restrooms echo the restuarant's design, although they are a bit underlit. The food was spectacular. The fish was very fresh and so silky it dissolved on my tongue. The house sake is smooth with a sweet hint. We sat at the sushi bar, had a small sushi plate and small sashimi plate. The chef told us that fish arrives every day from all over the world, which is why it is so fresh. The presentation is classic and the sushi the best I have had outside Japan. The donuts are AMAZING!"

  • "My husband and I went based on the reviews and the write up, however we were quite disappointed. The tables are long but close together so we were more apart of our neighbors conversation and we had to talk extremely loud to hear one another... So not an intimate setting. Then the table was wobbling which made it tough to eat. The staff tried to fix it while we were eating and they were nice. The food was ok, I enjoyed the pastries from the front. I'm not one to usually leave responses but I felt it necessary to forewarn the tourists as it didn't live up to the hype."

  • "The food is exotic and service is great . However, I was a little disappointed about the décor and ambience of the restaurant this time. It lacks colors and a substantial theme. Therefore, unable to create excitement . I recall their Hawaii restaurant offers a better dinning atmosphere. All in all it is still a very good restaurant . Comparing with the NOBU Group , Morimoto's restaurants are way much better in terms of food and service."

  • "It was a good place with lots of options. we enjoyed the food but the ambience was rushing. Lots of people and lots of conversations."

  • "For a world-famous chef, one would think his restaurant would have world-famous service, but I've had better service at Applebee's than at Morimoto Napa. Our server might have said 4 words to us throughout the meal, and hardly paid any attention to us. 20 minutes after we had ordered, our server had yet to come by to our table. My wife and I were about to leave, when finally her beverage showed up, but mine did not. It took another 10 minutes for him to tell us that they were out of that type of beer. When the food finally did come, it was good, but very obvious that it had been sitting out for quite some time. Never going back there again."

  • "food was good-- it was just really loud, which is difficult if one of the diners is hard of hearing. wait stuff supremely informed and super helpful and kind."

  • "Everything was DELICIOUS and our waiter really knew his stuff. A bit pricey, but worth it."

  • "Stopped here for lunch on our way into Yountville. Sushi was fresh and cut very nicely. Overall, food and experience was great."

  • "I am a long time sushi eater and this was the best sushi experience I have ever had. I tried many new types of fish that I was unfamiliar with and had a couple of types that I had not like previously. Very good experience."

  • "its actually our fourth time here. we love this place however it was my first time to bring my baby and they don't have changing diaper table in the rest room.. poor baby.. also, the sea urchin carbonara is a little salty.. but the octopus carpaccio is to soo good, its so delicious. the rest was also ok."

  • "We had been to this restaurant many times since they first opened. During the early times the food was spectacular as was the presentation. This time around, some of our favorite dishes were removed from the menu, which is understandable. The new dishes, however, were uninspired and quite pedestrian. It now has a feel of a place which stopped trying and is producing dishes we can get anywhere in bay area. The food is fresh, but neither the taste, nor the presentation are any longer there. We ended up leaving most of our mains without eating them."

  • "Morimoto Napa...we were expecting an excellent fine dining experience, but it was elevated into the best meal we had ever eaten in thanks to one person: Crystal. Our waitress was fantastic and served us in a timely and warm manner, making us feel comfortable and at home. All of the other wait staff were equally personable and attentive. If I could have given 6 stars for service I would give them 8. Crystal was in fact so memorable, my party of three has still not forgotten her name, nor how great it was to be there! Oh, and the food is phenominal as well!"

  • "We trusted our waiter's suggestions and every bite was wonderful. The place is too noisy to have a romantic dinner but the food was lovely and our waiter was happy to guide us through the menu."

  • "I brought two of my friends here who were visiting from out of town. The food was great and lived up to the hype- our table had the angry chicken, pork chop, tuna pizza, and a variety of side dishes and cocktails. However, we were extremely disappointed with the service (or lack thereof) Anthony provided to our table. He unenthusiastically gave recommendations when we asked for them and hardly ever came by to check on our table. We had to flag down someone else to bring us our check. The worst part was that Anthony gave exceptional service to his two other tables on either side of ours.]Since moving to the Bay Area six months ago, this was by far the worst service I've received anywhere. So sad!"

  • "While this meal was good, it was not nearly as spectacular as Morimoto in NYC. The service was fine but not special, the sushi was also very good but not mind-blowing, and the atmosphere was nice but not particularly special. The signature tartare app was definitely the highlight of the meal."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "All was perfect. Creative presentation of food, the fusion of flavors and attentive service made this memorable."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "The server seemed knowledgeable. You can get specialty items, such as bone marrow. The tempura was a bit salty. The room is wide open, which makes it loud and difficult to have conversation."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Amazing meal and would recommend to friends! We had the tasting menu which was amazing as well as the flight of sakes (which was fun to see what tastes you enjoy best)."
