Diner Reviews
  • "We went for (another) birthday and were pleased as always - there are 6 or 7 go-to entrees and we love the vibe. We actually had dinner in a semi-private room the eve of my birthday and then returned the following night and had dinner outside so the kids could run around on the adjoining lawn. "

  • "Fantastic Food and Service. Our date spot when we visit the dessert. I understand that they are building a wine cellar and adding to the wine list which I would say is the restaurant's only shortcoming. "

  • "Food was great, service impeccable, ambiance fantastic. I'm never disappointed with this restaurant."

  • "I wanted to take my 11 year old granddaughter to someplace special...this was definitely the place . She enjoyed the food & was treated very well by the staff. Steve was such a great waiter, making our dining experience the best!"

  • "The restaurant is in the lovely La Quinta Hotel and as such it has a built in clientele. I believe it would not be able to survive in a different location. It's lovely to walk into and has a pretty bar and dining room but everything else is just run of the mill. The menu is fairly varied and one hopes that the kitchen will not disappoint. We both chose salads to start and though we requested light dressing they came over dressed. Sea scallops were quite good but the butternut squash pasta was over dressed and gooey. There was a special menu for 2 dishes with special asperagus but not one side dish of them nor were they on any other entree. So you HAD to have the special menu or just do without. That made no sense."

  • "We like the La Quinta Inn and although the overall area has many exceptional restaurants, sometimes you just don't want to drive so we tend to go to Morgans at least one night each time we stay there. The food is very good and the service is generally exceptional but it also seems to depend on the number of large groups that might be dinning. We found that the more large parties the more likely the time to get served can be long. The only weakness is that in my view the wine list has gotten weaker over the last few years relative to the by-the-glass selections. I think given the higher price point of the venue they should offer more selections."

  • "Morgan's has everything you would want in a restaurant -- perfect food by a James Beard award winning chef; perfect atmosphere, whether you are looking for romantic, classy, or impressive; and perfect service, with a wait and support staff that doesn't miss a beat and does it all with grace, professionalism, and pleasantry. Just a perfect dining experience."

  • "I was in the Palm Springs area for work. The two other people I was with asked me to find a restaurant for dinner with short notice. I looked through Open Table reviews of restaurants in the area and decided to take a chance. Boy, am I glad I did! This was one of the best meals I've ever had! Everyone was thoroughly impressed and loved their meals. The cheese plate as a starter was a huge hit, my steak was amazing and cooked to perfection and the lemon cheesecake was divine... not to mention the extensive wine list and yummy gin/rosemary cocktail that kicked off my night. Service was perfect, as well. Five stars for sure!"

  • "Scenic setting. Amazing pumpkin risotto and fabulous ginger cream corn. Outside of scallops were over grilled, leaving a charred taste. Service was a little slow."

  • "Was looking for a special place to take my vacation hosts. Used Google for info and Morgan's won out. The experience was even more than expected."

  • "Brought a group of friends here since we love the place & they had never been. All were quite impressed. Had to start with the best Bradshaw martinis! Yum! At the table we had rack of lamb, filet, ahi, & two different salmon entrees. Everyone loved theirs except I would recommend the large plate salmon vs. the other choice. Seemed to be a completely different quality of fish and was not my favorite. We shared some amazing desserts, buttered popcorn sundae, twisted s'mores, mango sorbet but the salted caramel ice cream was just weird. Service was spot on, as always. We will be back soon!"

  • "The food and atmosphere were excellent, but the officious waiters were way over the top. The service was adequate until the end, when our waiter took our check and credit card, and we didn't see him again for 15 minutes. We finally had to ask the hostess for the check, and it ruined a nice experience. We won't be back,"

  • "This occasion was a special birthday dinner. The food was so delicious, it was even better than the fine Napa and Sonoma restaurants we used to go to. We started with the cheese plate, then had the salmon and duck for dinner - both amazing. Our daughter, a vegetarian, had the artichoke appetizer for dinner on the recommendation of our waiter, Jose. It was fantastic also. Our wait staff was perfect. We had a great time and will come back."

  • "I always look for the chef's latest menu - which are wonderful local tasting menus using local fresh ingredients. I'm a fan plus the wine pairings!"

  • ""Parker" (waiter) made great recommendations on menu. Very friendly staff! Lovely setting and amazing food!"

  • "Went to Morgan's with my wife and my parents. The filet mignon was the best my wife had ever tasted. My ahi tuna was a very large portion, lightly seared and cooked with fennel. Atmosphere outside was great and our waiter very attentive."

  • "First time I've ever heard of a restaurant running out of bread and soup. I'd think someone could keep better track of essentials like those two."

  • "We are regulars simply because Morgan's in the Desert is the best in the desert. Great food, impeccable service, lovely room and patio in the spectacular historic LaQuinta Resort. Nothing else compares. Very highly recommended."

  • "Morgan's is one of our "Go-to" restaurants in the desert. The service is always excellent, while being warm and welcoming. The prices are commiserate with a top hotel dining room, but worth it as the food is always fresh, local, and beautifully prepared. The chef proposes many special menus throughout the year from truffles to mussels to Meyer lemon inspired dishes. For larger parties (6 or more) we often sit out on the lovely patio."

  • "When I made the reservation I noted that it was our first anniversary. And they paid attention - when we arrived, the staff welcomed us and congratulated us. They had pre-set a table for us with 2 seatings next to one another - instead of across. The service was attentive without being overbearing, the food was great and they topped it off with a desert. It was a great experience for a special occasion."

  • "Morgans is a top spot in my books for a lovely dinner and a cozy atmosphere. Our waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable about both the food preparation and the wine list. Food was prepared perfectly and met our expectations. Would go there again definitely. La Quinta is such a lovely spot."

  • "Another delicious meal here, the Caesar salad is superb. I had the salmon, which was one of the best I've ever eaten! The hubs had the NY steak, which was flavorful and delicious. Had the twisted s'mores for dessert...they are sinful & incredible! And the Bradshaw martini is one of the best things in existence, yum! Ask for server Kim, she is our favorite, she is the best!!"

  • "The service was excellent, the food even better. The Salmon was the best and we are from Oregon where Salmon is always good."
    Dined on 3/5/2014
  • "I had read excellent reviews of this restaurant and it certainly lived up to my expectations! The service was probably the best I have ever had anywhere. Due to weather we ate indoors but they have a beautiful outdoor dining area with fire pits. The food is expensive but certainly was quite good. Would definitely return!"

  • "Generally avoid hotel restaurants, however, based upon great reviews decided to take our group of six to Morgans. Truly a great restaurant in all respects. Food just wonderful with cheerful, attentive and professional service. Will definitely return."

  • "We tried their lemon meyer dinner special which sounded wonderful. The salmon carpacchio appetizer was excellent, the scallop entree was good although a little too salty and the dessert was super and a wonderful end to a good meal. The service was outstanding!"

  • "My objection is that the kitchen tries too hard to be creative and just ends up being weird. And weird is expensive here."
    Dined on 2/12/2014
  • "Had the Valentine's Day prix fixe menu. Expensive ($95 a person without wine pairings), but delicious! Service was excellent and the meal was paced nicely. Only complaint was the cold espresso - literally the worst I ever had. Would definitely recommend Morgan's even if you are not staying at the resort - parking can be tricky, but it's worth it!"

  • "Went for the Meyer Lemon Festival with friends. We often enjoy the Morgan's "special event" menus and their wine dinners - this one was outstanding. Absolutely the best restaurant in the desert."

  • "This is our 4th Winter in the desert, and again we are making regular visits to Morgans. Dining outside under the orange and lemon trees is heavenly. The oysters are fresh and served with a fabulous iced fruit granita (this year, apples). Service could be faster, but it is competent. The celery root soup (creamless) with green apples was out of this world. We haven't had a chance to experience the special Meyer Lemon menu, but hope to do so before it disappears."

  • "Prepared to perfection! Paired with a great cabernet."

  • "We have enjoyed dinner at Morgan's several times and have never been disappointed with anything. When I reserved, I asked for our favorite table by the fireplace. When we arrived, that table was waiting for us. Michael, our waiter, made the evening enjoyable without intruding. He had excellent suggestions for wine and food. My steak was perfect. My wife's Ahi done just right. Yes, Morgan's is a bit on the expensive side; but sometimes it's worth it. We'll be back."

  • "On Valentine's Day we were presented a Prix Fixe menu with absolutely no choices. It was an abundant and exquisite selection of appetizers, entree, and dessert. However it included 3 shellfish varieties - 2 different people in our party were allergic to one to three items, and no alternatives had been thought out in advance. The waiter accommodated us graciously and in one case provided a substitute appetizer. However we should not have been in this dilemma. Usually on a fixed menu you still are allowed a choice or two for each course - we should not have had a "take it or leave it" approach to shellfish, which many people are allergic to. Other than that faux pas, the restaurant is A++++ and we will go back for regular menus!"

  • "We have dined at Morgan's many times and hav always lived our dinner. The ahi tuna tartar was skimpy and smothered in hearts if Palm. I think they ran out of tuna. The soup was below average and it is always fabulous. Had guests fr Wisconsin with us and we raved about the restaurant. They thought it was average too. However my husband had the lamb special and it was outstanding. We will definitely go back'"

  • "Overall disappointment both entrees (breast of duck and beef spareribs) were tough. Cauliflower puree was tasteless. I did enjoy the apple accompaniments with the duck. We wanted a meal that would be a step up from the other restaurants at the La Quinta Plaza. The ambiance and noise level were fine but the food disappointed."

  • "We'd heard great things, but our group of 4 San Francisco foodies found both food and service lacking. Nothing particularly innovative on the menu - we all felt the renowned chef should have done better. Appetizer of fried artichokes that 2 ordered was delicious, but so large, it should have been recommended as a starter for the 4 of us to share. Service less than splendid. Each course was "auctioned". Entree order for 1 diner had him just starting on his corrected order as the rest of us were finishing ours. Deserts were comped as a result of the error by our very charming server. The atmosphere was lovely, but for the prices charged, we'd have preferred to savor more than the decor. This restaurant is way overrated!"

  • "We had changed our reservation from 5 to 6 peeps the day before but somehow the change didn't get to the hostess desk and they said they couldn't seat us for 2 hours. It was a birthday dinner for my 82 year old husband who was not about to wait 2 hours and other older guests as well. No effort by the hostesses was made to accomodate us except to put us outside (not a great option for older folk). We did sit outside. The heater went out and we requested a new one at least 3 times but never did get one. All in all it was disappointing but gave us something to laugh about. We were guests at the hotel."

  • "Loved the vibe from the very beginning. Hostesses met our request, making sure we were well taken care of, our server Maggie was extraordinary and manager John couldn't have been any more personable. Making a trip back? ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!! This place is a real gem."
