  • "We had birthday dinner on Sunday, our waitress Kelly was excellent! amazing, funny and I am Vegetarian, she made sure I got great food and everybody else. Great food, great view, overall excellent. We had drinks at the bar before and the bartender was amazing and nice and very friendly. I did not get her name but she had long dark hair and was beautiful and mixed amazing drinks! Thank you! thank you very much, you made my friends birthday perfect for her ! we will be back for sure! • "My husband and I had our first date here 9 years ago--and we returned this past weekend to relive that moment! Everything was on point from the service to the cocktails to the food. Highly recommend the tuna entree and the king crab leg cocktail (special) appetizer! We had a fantastic time--again! "

  • "(Open Table, you misspelled brunch) The staff was friendly and helpful. Our waiter knew the menu well and had good recommendations... He also had a great sense of humor. The menu is limited and I would advise choosing the seafood. One person in our party of 4 ordered the steak and it was tough. Grilled swordfish is an excellent choice as well as the beet salad. Desserts were also good."

  • "Aside from having to wait 30 minutes (even with a reservation) everything else was enjoyable. The meals were well prepared and tasty. The service was great too. "

  • "Nice place to go if you want to be on the ocean or near enough to the ocean. "

  • "We are not foodies or celebs or particularly hip. We just wanted a place to celebrate 38 years of marriage. We were received warmly, taken to a delightful table, fed delicious food, and even treated to a delicious dessert to celebrate. It was a wonderful evening. As we left, we saw many tables filled with all kinds of different parties each apparently having the same good time we did. Kudos to a beach classic that can still hold its own for view, atmosphere, service and food. "

  • "We celebrated our anniversary with a great meal overlooking the ocean. What more do you need? The fish was superb, the service was great and a splendid time was had by all!"

  • "We visited Moonshadows to celebrate a birthday with a Pacific Ocean view. We chose lobster, short ribs, and pork chop entreès with calamari and Dungeness crab cakes from the appetizer selection. The calamari was exceptional, a generous serving, simply fried in a mildly flavorful breeding with an Aoli sauce. The Dungeness crab cakes were ok but "had too much stuff in them", to quote my granddaughter. Entreès were as expected, very good, but nothing stood out. We enjoyed good service although we had to request a couple of essentials. Nothing too serious just not great. The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. Valet parking is provided for a $7 charge. All in all Moonshadows was a notch above the ordinary casual dining experience."

  • "I had never dined at Moonshadows but wanted a dinner date on the ocean. The online info was great. Making the reservations was easy and I was sent email information so I felt comfortable being a newcomer. I knew my date from talking to her and texting her but we were having our first face-to-face date. I arrived early and had a cocktail at the bar which was comfortable and how could you lose with an ocean view! After my date arrived, we had a wonderful dinner. There were great wine suggestions by the server, not a long wait for the appetizers or entree. The ambiance was terrific. I would recommend Moonshadows to anyone."

  • "The Hostess was very rude! We had a reservation for 2 and requested an outdoor patio seat as it was a special birthday occasion. When we arrived, the hostess asked us to wait for 30 minutes ( we had a reservation). When i checked in with her there were no tables available per our request, not only could she NOT give us a window tablet the only available was in the back opposite the window with no view. We ended up leaving after our app in the bar. I will not go back!! If fact, i would appreciate a call for management."

  • "The outdoor cabanas, outdoor "bar" seating and indoor seating all provide magnificent views. White wine sangria was some of the best I've had. Kobe beef burger was perfect. Couldn't not have been better!"

  • "The location and ambiance is great . Though I did request ocean view a week I'm advance , the wait was not bad when waiting for my reservation . The bar was a bit delayed in taking my drink order while waiting which was disappointing . However great server and very good food . Love the calamari . I would definitely come again but would like the bar to me more assertive."

  • "For an ocean spot so close to the Malibuu tourist restaurants, this unpretentious but atmospheric place is nothing but pleasure for those who value satisfaction over slick. Just be careful where you park & how you pull onto the popular Pacific Coast Highway."

  • "We stopped for lunch on a whim. Our lunch was excellent. We were especially impressed by the kid's menu that offered more than chicken tenders and pizza. Our 6 year old chose mahi mahi from the kid's menu and the staff graciously substituted the vegetable (he doesn't like cooked carrots, but loved the cauliflower they substituted)."

  • "Went there late on a week night. Very quiet which we enjoyed. Table by the window overlooked ocean. Nice setting. Food was very good. I had the black cod and it was tasty and well prepared. The green tea rice was excellent. Would definitely return for a truly Malibu experience. Waiters are very attentive."

  • "Great outdoor seating! Loved the beds on the deck overlooking the ocean and the nicely decorated booths. We went with friends in the evening and enjoyed the nice lighting, as it was dark when we arrived. The calamari was fabulous, and my tuna was done to perfection. Wait staff was attentive, food was great, ambiance was fun, view of the ocean . . . spectacular! We would definitely go again and would highly recommend."

  • "We came here for our wedding anniversary dinner, made reservations days in advance....and were not at all given the option to dine outside even though we begged, while celebrity types breezed right in and were seated outside. Not happy about that."

  • "Food was abit pricey for what it is. Not outstanding but pretty good. Love the view"

  • "I took my Mom here for her 70th birthday brunch. All she wanted was lobster and an ocean view....so Moonshadows was the perfect choice. The lobster was good (but not amazing) and the food (the brunch specials) my sister and I ordered were pretty good, but not incredible. Our waitress was less than pleasant and was clearly either hungover or angry about something....despite her efforts to be 'friendly' she was less than excellent and gave off some pretty negative vibes. In the end, Mom was super happy - she got everything she wanted and a couple cocktails to boot, but I wouldn't necessarily rush back to Moonshadows (at least not for the food)."

  • "The window seating afford a great ocean view. Sunset is stunning although in the Summer the sun sets to the right just behind the mountains (not directly over the water). If the weather is nice, there is quite a bit of outdoor seating along a rail in the back as well as the Blue Lounge - which offers a chic atmosphere for socializing and views."

  • "We chose Moonshadows for a special lunch with a group at the suggestion of a friend, who had been there twice recently. All of us were blown away by the location right on the water, with waves lapping the rocks and pilings. It is beautiful in every way. The staff, from hostess to waiters and bus people were all friendly and chatted with us. The food was absolutely impressive and delicious, with so many choices. A birthday treat was served at my request. I can't wait to go back again."

  • "Took an extremely long time to get a table despite having a reservation on a Sunday night (over 30 minutes). Very loud Seems to be more of a "hot spot" bar type restaurant than a serene romantic dinner type. Valet service was poor, probably because the bar area was overcrowded with singles looking for hookups."

  • "Frankly, Moonshadow's principal attraction is its view which is absolutely stunning. Restaurants like this often serve food which is entirely acceptable; but, not truly great. Moonshadow is notable exception. Its food and service was much better than expected. The Brunch menu is large and varied with many interesting choices. This is a wonderful spot for a "special" meal."

  • "The food and wait service at Moonshadows is always good which is why we return. I just think it's a shame that when you go to the trouble of making a reservation that the only available option is one of the beds and short tables rather than a real table. This is not the first time it has happened. Luckily we were not in a hurry, so waited for a table, but otherwise we probably would have left and dined elsewhere."

  • "Overall a good experience for a work dinner with out-of-town colleague. We were as noisy as anyone else and enjoyed the views, beers and cocktails. Service was prompt and attentive. Had heirloom tomato with buratta cheese that was decent, crab cake tasted fishy - not my fave. Dinner was a bit disappointing, filet mignon overcooked and veggies carrying a yucky aftertaste. Didn't want to send it back or make a scene about it with coworkers, just didn't eat a lot. Desserts and coffees were yummy. I won't go for dinner again, but wouldn't mind going just for bar and views."

  • "Beauuutiful view.. worth the drive just for that. Food was pretty good. The bread they serve in the beginning was delicious. Chowder was only okay. The calamari & burrata dishes were yummy. Entrees were good, but nothing extraordinary. I would go and just get a bunch of appetizers."

  • "Went on Sunday morning for bunch with visiting family. I had been before and wanted to share the experience. The hostess was sweet and accommodating, the management checked on us and was great, however our blonde waitress was not friendly and seemed unfamiliar with the menu."

  • "Went in with my wife and two young kids. We were pegged immediately by the waiter because we had the kids and he was annoyed from the second he greeted us. So annoyed that he hardly came by to help us. He took drink orders and we never saw him again and it took 15 minutes for the drinks to come. Someone else brought the food, the bill, etc., It was clearly the bus boy who brought the food, water, bill, etc., Waiter just checked out, wasn't going to help us. I usually tip 20-25%. Guess what tip he got? To be clear this is a place a lot of folks take their kids (we are local). Won't be going here again. Only reason to go here is because you want to be right on the water, there are lots of other restaurants with better service in Malibu."
