Moonshadows is a beautiful restaurant right on PCH and on the ocean. There is outdoor dining which is beautiful since it sits right over the water. You have the beautiful view and smell of the ocean while you eat their wonderful food. There are great heaters outside so you will never get cold. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was fantastic. Can't wait to go back again.

Moonshadows has been a standby place for us for a while but the food quality is slipping. Overcooked swordfish and an unremarkable rib eye. That said, the house salad is a good choice and they do keep their veggies crisp. The ocean view is a draw, but not enough if the food continues to disappoint.

Moonshadows is one of the most memorable restaurants that I have been to. I first went there many years ago and was very impressed. The view is killer. We scheduled our dinner so we could catch the sunset. At night the water is lit so you can see the waves crashing. Our waiter was outstanding. He had great recommendations and descriptions for several items on the menu. We were thoroughly impressed with the food. For being a pretty high-end place we found the prices to be very reasonable.

My hubby & I were visiting from DC, & wanted to find a place that would provide great view & delicious food! Had been to a couple of places where the view was great, but the food not so much. But coming to Moonshadows gave us a whole other experience. From the moment we walked in great customer service! We were celebrating our bday's & really wanted to sit outside with the view. The hostess & manager were very friendly & were able to work us into the list to get us a table outside. The ambiance was very relaxed but fun. The view along w/ the sound of the ocean was amazing. The music that was playing was very energetic but enjoyable. Our dinner delicious & the desserts were just as good. We are coming back in a few mnths & WILL BE BACK!

We went to Moonshadows for Sunday brunch before a late flight out of LAX. We were immediately seated at the best table in the house in the corner overlooking the ocean. The servers were friendly, attentive and timely; we must have seen seven different people throughout the course of our lunch. The food was only so-so. The tuna tartare was clearly pre-made, as it came out just minutes after we ordered. In Malibu, I would have expected it to be freshly prepared and that the food in general, would have more developed flavors. But, who can deny the ambiance of the room, the waves crashing over the rocks below, and the panoramic views! I wouldn't hesitate to give it another try next time we're in town.

I didn't like the smell when I walked in, the hostess was a bit cold and not personable, the outdoor seating/bar for dining guests was only enough for 8 people, generally Tha place is not very classy. If you're looking for a kickback place that you don't mind be flexible accommodating it's fine. Otherwise there's nothing really special about it. Yes it's a beautiful scenic view but I don't think the comfort of the place gives enough room to enjoy that. My husband and I were staying at the Malibu Beach Inn, their restaurant was much nicer than Moonshadows. I also liked the restaurant on the pier right by Malibu Beach Inn, but not Moonshadows.

The special, Chilean Sea Bass with forbidden rice on spinach and lobster sauce, was well done, a nice portion. The salt may have been just a bit too much, but that kind of dish does call for substantial sodium. Return visit, and we are never disappointed with any aspect of the dining experience.

Went here for the first time after making a reservation for two at a Friday night 6 pm. Got "greeted" by a rude front desk lady, asking me if we can be out of here by 7.30 if she gives us a window table...I mean who does that? Service rushed us trough dinner, my tuna steak with gnocchi drowned in an awfully seeet sauce, almost uneatable. The views are nice, so if you want to come here for an overpriced drink, that should be fine. Won't come back that's for sure!

occasion was our anniversary - very very loud. we were seated right next to the big room with the sliding door open and about 100 people in there just yelling. Service was really horrible, I had to ask 4 different waiters for bread to start and we still didn't receive it. When I received my clam Chowder soup, I asked the same 4 waiter for crackers and by the time I received it I was already done w/ my soup. outside of the Tuna Tartare and the calamaries the rest of the food wasn't good

The waiter was annoyed we did not order any drinks, the food was passable however my other daughter's dinner was very poor and my dinner later caused me to have heartburn. Went to Moonshadows because I was considering having my wedding reception there. The place is unique and romantic with gorgeous views. The service was great...very friendly staff. The food and overall menu fell short for us though. One out of 4 had a nice dish, one of the desserts was excellent, the other one, burnt. As far as discussing the possibility of having my wedding reception there, the events coordinator offered no help whatsoever (this was via email),and vaguely answered my questions. No one working in the restaurant was able to help either. As a result, I'm having my reception some where else.

No complaints, other than the noise level, and that was only an issue because we went with our autistic son (for dad's b-day). But the hostess was so sweet, and she suggested sitting in the room farthest from the Blue Lounge because it would have less stimulation. Worked like a charm. So happy we were able to enjoy this amazing place with our whole family, including our son who has special needs!

I had taken some dear friends from the East Coast there this past Saturday night and as were were getting seated - a fight broke out on the balcony where we were being seated. It was very freightening - 2 of the employees came running past me and one of my friends and almost knocked us to the floor. I think they were running to try to stop the fight. The whole scene was a little scarey and I was very surprised and disappointed that happened at Moondshadows.

The location of the place is amazing, but the service was not good, starting from the hostess to the server. the hostess was already not in good mood when we arrived and was angry looking and not welcoming. She was ignoring not only us but all customers who were waiting for tables. The servant was in hurry. I asked for dinner recommendation and she didn't know what was good, she was not familiar with the menu at all. Either they are not paying & treating their employees good at this place, or we were just got unlucky. They need to improve their customer service 1000%

We did arrive early for our 6:30 reservation. The flowers that I had ordered were already there and we went to the bar to sit for while. The hostess came by not least than 5 minutes later to announce a table was free and they could seat us now. It was a window table and we had a great view of the ocean and the beach. The flowers were already in place at the table when we were seated. Service was quick and efficient. We had a very nice dinner with tuna steaks and one person ordered the swordfish. Clam chowder first and very very good with a minimum of potatoes and lots of flavor. My tuna steak was nicely done but I didn't care for the gnocchi, too pasty and bland. They brought a nice dessert for our birthday lady. A little noisy.
