Diner Reviews
  • "Unfortunately a rainy day at Cape Cod. But a pleasant dinner event at the Tavern. We did an east-coast-trip. Service and meal were absolutely satisfying. Also we realised a pleasant temperature in the restaurant. This was very comfortable regarding other restaurants where AC presented a winter-feeling."

  • "Been living on the Cape for a while now and went out for a Sunday drive and saw the Tavern. We made reservations for late in the week and must say we can't wait to go back."

  • "We made reservation through Open Table and drove 25 min to the restaurant. We arrived to our reservation and they had given our table away. The manager told us it was a mixup but was very unapologetic and told us we had to wait 45 min for a table, after two other groups. We left, not giving such a poorly run restaurant our business! It is summer on the Cape so very inconvenient to find another establishment to eat. Ruined our night out!"

  • "A friend recommended Mooncussers to us so we gave it a try. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was delightful. And the owner stopped by our table to chat. You don't see that too often. I would definitely go back to there."

  • "Been coming to Mid Cape for 35+years, know all the restaurants. We travel from Hyannis to Harwichport each summer to have a great night at Mooncussers. Last week we took my mother in law and were thrilled to find a "background" pianist playing the Great American Songbook. The music was a highlight of a perfect meal, great service and as always the owner Patrick stopping by each table to check in. The other wing of the Tavern holds the bar and smaller tables and is equally fun. There were families with children, couples and tables of "girls night out". We will be back again with friends to share the relaxed and delicious Mooncusser experience."

  • "Decided to give this place a shot as we had a large party and they were one of the few places in the area that could accomodate a good sized table on a saturday night...Once there we found out why.. it was not a good first impression...the waitress spilled drinks one was literally poured on one of us and didn't seem all that apologetic about it..I would have been horrified if I ever did that to a customer...that drink was ordered by two people and looked and tasted differently and not good in either case....the waitress then almost hit my brother in law with his beer bottle while serving it... check the menu before you go in...all their burgers are infused with duck fat..nice...once we saw that we called off the dining experience."

  • "It was out first time at Mooncussers and it won't be our last. The food was excellent, creative and beautifully presented."

  • "I brought two out of town guests to Mooncussers hoping for a unique experience with top quality food, and a leisurely pace so we could catch up on each others lives. BINGO. It was a perfect night. Superb, unique, beautifully presented food. Ambiance allowed for easy conversation with no distraction from other tables. The owner introduced himself seeking feedback on his establishment. The bar was rocking but we were in the newly opened dining area with generously spaced tables. I hesitate to say more because I don't want my discovery to prevent me from getting into my new favorite restaurant on the Cape. Taking my 90 year old mother tonight for her first tapas dining experience."

  • "My wife and I spend a week at the Cape each year with our extended family. We take one special night just for ourselves. Last year we found Mooncusser's and liked it so well we came back this year. The venison special was perfectly cooked, medallions of rare meat on a bed of cool buckwheat noodles and corn, topped with fresh chimichurri. Staff was attentive if slightly undertrained. Espresso should be served with a lemon twist, sweetner and a spoon you can fit in the tiny cup ;-). Well done until dessert. Creme Brulé tasted artificial. I wouldn't complain but it killed the nice feel in my mouth and belly that the amazing venison dish had put there."

  • "The food here is outstanding! Portions that don't make you lose your appetite, just fill you nicely. Great variety ~ something for every taste. We've been there five or six times ~ it's one of my favorites."

  • "Wonderful food in a lovely setting. The salad with shallot vinaigrette was light and subtle. Presentation grand! Four large succulent scallops served over risotto were a hit, along with the striped bass special of the night. Service a bit erratic. Served espresso and asked for sugar - server took another table's order before bringing it and the coffee was cold."

  • "This place is a terrific little find. It has an unlikely look on the outside, but once inside, you are in a cute inn with amazing food and terrific service. We were greeted by the owners like old friends. We'll be back."

  • "All 5 tapas we ordered lacked seasoning. Did the kitchen run out of salt & pepper? The Rosemary Bearniase fries were shamefully limp & tasteless. The mussels dijonnaise were undercooked and overpowered by the mustard. What a shame...the ambience and service were really very good."

  • "I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say this restaurant blows away the cape cod fine dining competition. Lets start with the service, our waiter managed his time well serving many tables. A perfect gentleman, he took his time with us but managed not to bother us too much. He was perfect. The ambiance: definitely a romantic destination on the cape, dimmed lights and nice décor mixed with the Harwich Cape Cod feel. Lastly, the food: this place could compete in any district of Boston or anywhere in MA. The Tapas are well portioned and each bite is a great experience. Very flavorful. A special thank you to Patrick the owner who was an excellent host. We will be back soon."

  • "My first visit but it won't be my last. I'm thrilled to have discovered a new place to put into my dining rotation. The service was excellent. Our waitress (Barbara) is one of the best anywhere. They have live entertainment. Music by Frank & Chev was perfect. They are too good to be playing in restaurants! They feature Tapas but we ordered one of their specials of the evening.Oysters were excellent, Bass was cooked to perfection, had great drinks, couldn't pass up the desert. Not crazy expensive. If you like the Ocean House or the Cape Sea Grille you'll like this place. I consider it to be one of the five best on Cape Cod."

  • "Went with a friend and we had an absolutely fantastic dinner from start to finish. The risotto was some of the best I have ever had. The wine was delicious and the Chocolate Bread Pudding for dessert was a great finish."

  • "MOONCUSSERS is a little gem in the Cape Cod area. We spent 2 nights in the area and both nights we went for dinner there. Extremely good service, great host and hostess. Not only were they friendly, but they gave us a lot of great tips for the area. My favorite dishes were the Advocado and Tuna Tempura appetiser, and the chocolate pudding dessert. I am a chocolate-addict, and must say this one has made it to my top 5 chocolate dessert list...."

  • "We were a table of four. I reserved on line and requested window table. We were shown to a corner table with two windows. I ordered the seafood pappardelle which was just amazing with it's interesting combination of herbs, butter, and shellfish. I would definitely go there again."

  • "My husband & I had a date night. Made reservation online quick and painless. Service was poor & slow. The kid maybe (18) working as a waitor and was not prepared for a high end priced restaurant experience. Food was great but VERY slow to our table. The place was pretty empty and not romantic at all. Sign out front said entertainment but never heard or saw anyone. Very disappointed and would not recommend unless changes are made!"

  • "Thought we might try a restaurant that had been thru some ownership changes over the years. It was not a great experience. Food was mediocre, certainly not worth the high prices; service was terrible, and not much input from management, other than an offer for cocktails when we were pretty much through with dinner. We had hoped for a successful run for this local dining establishment, but we will not be returning. On the plus side, the tavern seemed busy serving tapas and other bar food. But for fine dining, I would not recommend it."

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my choice. My husband enjoyed his also but he tired of it and almost didn't finish. I had the vegetable pastry with artichokes and he had the cherry stones. We also shared the mushroom appetizer. We were pleased that we could be satisfied with just appetizers. Then we shared the banana creme brule....excellent! We were disappointed that Bruce Abbott was not the musician of the evening as we have often listened to him play and thought he would be playing that night. We will definitely try again as your chef is good."

  • "This restaurant has the ambience of a local watering hole but the food was outstanding (fresh and imaginatively prepared) and the service prompt and friendly."

  • "Has both a Tapas (small plates) menu and entree menu. We've selected from both and the results have been very good. Food is fresh and well-prepared. Chef does a very nice job of both preparation (marination, seasoning, etc) and presentation. They have a nice selection of wines both by the glass and by the bottle! Highly recommend this place!"

  • "We have been here for dinner twice within 10 days. It is a real find. The food is fabulous. It has just a little extra taste that is captivating. The beef carpaccio was delicious. My husband loves the mussels dijonnaise. The steak and eggs were amazing. The seared scalops are great. Dessert was great. The service is very friendly and it is in an old inn. Our whole family thought the food was amazing."

  • "The dining room is not open to the public until closer to the fourth: dined in the tavern which is pleasant. Service was professional and the seared scallops on a bed of polenta and asparagus stalks outstanding. Some disappointment in dining room being closed as I had high expectations of antique charm, as the exterior exemplifies the best of cape style antiques. I look forward to returning "in season" when the dining room is open."

  • "It is typical bar restaurant..nothing special, food was good. I was looking for more of the menu items as described on website. Actually looking for a fish dish, but did not find. We substituted 2 appetizers instead. Needs improvement."

  • "This place is a true find. Many times on the Cape, and had never found this place before. Menu choices range from burgers to full entrees to an amazing choice of tapas. Three of us opted for tapas- which were out of this world- I was amazed to see Humboldt squid on an east-coast menu. One of the group had a burger- the black truffle-infused fries were out of this world. The ambiance is very pleasant, quiet, attentive staff and several rooms for dining. We had the added bonus of a pianist when we dined. The lavender crème brulee for dessert was one of the best I've ever had. Cocktails at the bar were also outstanding. I can't say enough about this place- worth trying."

  • "This restaurant has both a TAPAS menu in the pub-bar and dining room, and a dinner menu. Food was excellent and unique. The white tablecloth dining room is in a creaky Cape house with a meadow view, but casual is ok. Live music (piano) the night we were there. "
