I had been to Monticello's a few years back and have been wanting to come back. So, I thought for my birthday, I'd come with my mom, dad and son. Being my parents are elderly, coming for a 6pm seating was perfect. Not crowded or too loud. The fixed meal price of $20 was the best and worth every bite! We all had it, except my mom. She wanted her fish! Very good, from beginning to end. The chef came out to talk with us and my mom couldn't compliment her salmon dish enough. Our waitress Meghan, was adorable and very attentive to all our needs. It was a success!

We dined here on a very busy Saturday night. Despite the crowds in Red Bank, our dining experience was top notch. The food was tastefully prepared, service was friendly and prompt and the overall atmosphere in Monticello made it a most enjoyable evening. We tried the mussels as an appetizer, the pork chop with gorgonzola cheese, the pappardelle Monticello and the chocolate tort for desert. All were very good!

This restaurant is perhaps one of my worst dining experiences. I went there specifically for the $20 three course special and the entrees were disgusting. We ordered Chicken Scarpariello and Chicken Francese as the main course. The menu nor the waiter were able to disclose the manner of preparation so we took a chance...not a good choice. The Scarpariello was a Breast (not a hacked up chicken in pieces, some on the bone, that is traditionally Italian) drowning in a thick Demi-Glaze sauce with no mushrooms. The Francese was also a Breast (not pounded as Traditionally Italian) and when we requested Pasta with tomato sauce instead of Potato, the waiter replied that the Francese sauce would have to be on the pasta. Imagine no tomato sauce here!

We had a great meal! The food was delicious, and nicely presented. We got there early (6:00) because we had tickets to a show at 8. Had to skip dessert, but the waiter gave us 2 desserts to go. Servers were polite and friendly, but not very attentive. If the place had been crowded, I don't know how long it would have taken. Also funny that the restaurant's answering machine was on speaker (loud in the almost empty space!). I would definitely go back, but not if I had something scheduled afterwards.

Service was poor. When seated server did not come over for at least ten minutes. When server did come we had to ask for specials. Two at our party asked for the steak and server indicated he was not sure if they had any left. Came back five minutes later and indicated they were out and this was not a special. Bus boy when came over to clear our table and put the tray on our table so he could remove our plates!!! We had a birthday celebration and when we asked the server to bring a dessert and if they could sing he answered they were bad singers so they could not accommodate. Bathrooms were disgusting!!! Food was good but could not overcome the service!! Overall it's a C minus at best!!

The main meal was delicious, I had salmon and shrimp and my friend had the Cod special. Both delicious. We had the mozzarella caprese for an app which was very average. It took an extremely long time to get our main meals (about 45 min) and when my salmon came out it was lukewarm and the cod was piping hot. The restaurant was fairly empty at this time so it wasn't due to being crowded. On a side note, I appreciate art but working in the law enforcement field specializing in sex crimes and child abuse I felt a few of the paintings were inappropriate. Needless to say plenty of other restaurants with great food so I won't be returning.

I was looking to try a new restaurant in Red Bank. I had a recommendation for another restaurant but was not able to get a reservation. I read the reviews for Monticello and decided to give it a try. I am soooooo glad the other restaurant didn't work out. We had a fabulous meal at Monticello! Atmosphere was inviting and comfortable. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Food was delicious from start to finish. The prices were very reasonable. We loved it! Monticello was an awesome find! I wanted to keep it my little secret but they deserve the review! Can't wait to go back.

For a beautiful Sat. night in the summer w/ a concert happening, you'd expect a packed restaurant. Well, that was not the case; we did not need a reservation, but our window seat was waiting us that we requested. The waiter FINALLY came over, then disappeared after giving us menus. 15minutes later he reappeared and was rather disappointed that we did not order a "special" that he went through the "trouble" of describing. W e had to ask for water, bread, and ice. When we finally got the 3 slices of bread, we had to ask for more, and did not get it until after our meal arrived. Although the food was good we would not go back. Service was slow and rude, & for $25 for a veal dish, I want at least a salad w/it.

This restaurant proves that although Red Bank is a popular town and higher prices/smaller portions seem to be the signal that a restaurant is going to be something exceptional and worth paying the extra for, the formula doesn't always work! And this one just DOES NOT measure up. At first appearance it seems to have all the trappings of a successful dining experience but in the end the food was not tasty enough to justify it's prices. Nice atmosphere and lovely accoutrements(cool dishes, snappy looking silverware, pleasant service etc.) are nice BUT in the end it's the taste and the price that truly matter, no? And our thoughts (four experienced adults) were all the same. Somewhat pretentious and WAY overpriced for the quality. Sorry.

Our party arrived at Monticello for an early Saturday night dinner (5:30pm). We were seated and water was poured for all. The gentleman pouring the water noticed that one of the glasses he was pouring into was broken and he replaced it with another. Bread was brought to the table and, while eating the bread, my wife but into some glass. We then noticed small pieces glass all over the table and alerted our waiter. We were relocated to another table. The waiter then made the inappropriate joke "you're not the type of people to throw glass on the table and try and get a free meal!!" Wow. Not funny. The food was good, we paid full price, and you would think we would at least get an apology from the manager!!!

Started with Clams Arrabbiata. An Italian take on drunken clams and highly recommended. The clams were tender and steamed perfectly but the real start in this dish is the broth which is served with points of toasted bread. Save some table bread or ask for another loaf so you can enjoy every ounce of this rich broth. I had the Shrimp Notre Dame. The sauce was a base of cream and butter with brandy deglazing the shrimp and finished with the addition of a red sauce. The shrimp were translucent, the sauce full bodied but not unbalanced by too much cheese. My wife had a special dish of Mahi Mahi that was excellent . Matre'd Robert stopped by our table (I like to share a glass of whatever wine I'm drinking) for a few words about dishes.

On tonight menu, we had the house salad and tuna carpaccio, which was on special, as appetizers. The tune capriccio was excellent. Very fresh with a slightly spicy aioli which enhanced the overall taste without covering it. It also was supposed to have a honey wasabi sauce, but I asked them to skip that since I don't like to mix sweet and savory. For the main course, we had Chicken Monticello which was outrageous and the Seafood Risotto. The chicken breast was huge and very juicy and succulent. It came with russet potatoes. The risotto was equally delicious. Very fresh with Salmon, with a light mustard sauce. It enhanced the flavor beautifully. It also had calamari, shrimp, mussels, clams. Both meals were well-served.

As usual the food was excellent each dish was impecibly prepared. The scallops were, delicious and perfectly opaque inside, the rissotto creamy soft with just the right amount of seasoning and a light hand with salt. My shrimp was tender and translucent as were the clams, a result of perfect timing at the sauté station. My wife's shrimp Notre dame was excellent especially the red sauce finished with a touch of cream and sea food stock. This is the most under rated restaurant in the red bank area. Bring your best bottle of wine on your visit. A final note, the food is very consistent no doubt the result of the watchful eye and masterful hand of chef Kathy.
