  • "This restaurant has good food in a long narrow setting right in the center of Red Bank. The food is excellent and plentiful as the portions are large. There were mostly large groups of 6 to 10 at the tables as it seems they cater to larger parties and celebrations with their type of meals. Service is attentive and effective with waiters and busboys tending to your needs. The wait for our meal was over an hour which leads me to believe they are a scratch kitchen that prepares meals to order which takes longer. All in all I would say this is a place to get a good meal at a fair price. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody with a larger party having a special occasion for a family"

  • "You can't beat fresh pasta and that's what you get here. Service was a little shaky but it seemed our server may have been new. It took quite the inquisition to get to the bottom of a special appetizer. But we got to the bottom of it and then got to the bottom of the plate too. The table next to us had another server who seemed quite professional and knowledgeable about the restaurant. We had dinner before a show at the Count Bassie Theater (which is awesome) and just walked there from the restaurant."

  • "We were looking for a reservation for 4 on a Saturday night in Red Bank and one was available on open table for Monticello. We took a shot and tried it and we were very pleased. The decor is very nice, comfortable but classy. Service was excellent and attentive. Our food from the appetizers, mussels, seafood arabiata appetizers and salads were great. 2 of us had the pork chop which was fantastic. A double cut large chop, cooked to perfection and they were not thrown when we asked for it without the goat cheese. In fact they were extremely accomodating for any request to tweak their dishes. It is a BYOB which is always nice. Wouls highly recommend and look forward to dining here again."

  • "Our Saturday night experience began when we walked into the restaurant at 7:45 for a 7:45 reservation and were seated immediately with people waiting. We were promptly served water and bread and wine glasses as this is a BYO and we had a bottle with us. at that point we noticed just how loud this restaurant was. in fact I could not hear my wife (who was sitting directly across from me) unless we yelled at each other. The couple at the next table appeared to be arguing when we figured out they were just talking to each other was well. The service was great as our waitress came over, yelled the specials at us (since we could not hear here either) and took our order. The food was delivered promptly with attention paid to presentation"

  • "We went to Monticello for the first time with another couple this past Saturday. The staff was very friendly and professional. Our waiter asked us more than once if we were in need of anything else, which was appreciated. The food was delicious. The bread was delicious as a start, then from our calamari appetizer to our 14oz pork shop straight through to our molten chocolate cake dessert, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We would recommend Monticello as a staple in our restaurant rotation!"

  • "Dined there on a Saturday night. Reservations are a must. We had a 6:45. Food took quite a while, but arrived hot and delicious. Noisy and busy. Liked it, but it was a bit hectic, as there is only one path down center of restaurant and there is constantly traffic running by the table: Waitresses, hostess, food runners, patrons, etc. Never stops. Tough to relax. Would like to try it on a Friday night instead. Maybe a little more relaxed? Food was very good."

  • "I ordered grouper off the menu. They were out of grouper (we were there at 5:45). Instead they were offering cod in the very same presentation and calling it a special. The "light fresh pomodoro sauce" was so heavy that I couldn't taste the cod, and the risotto was undercooked, very crunchy rice . Everyone else was happy with their food. The service was very attentive."

  • "We've been there many times and it's always a great experience. This particular time they were out of a lot of dishes, and of course they all happened to be what our friends wanted to order, but they found other items and were very happy with their meals. My husband ordered the Chicken Monticello which used to be his favorite, but the sauce has changed and he didn't like it as much. Over all we had a great time with our friends and will be back again."

  • "We were out with 4 people celebrating a birthday. I would recommend this restaurant for the food, but unattentive waitress and I kindly informed her that other parties would be so understanding. During our entire meal she did not ask once if everything was ok. Had to ask for water refills . Also, we asked to change our table since it was so cold near front door and they refused even though the party next to us moved and they asked after us. would think twice before returning. The food was Excellent."

  • "My boyfriend and I tried Monticello for the first time this Valentine's Day. We were excited to see a wide variety of dishes on the menu. We ordered the wine-poached pear stuffed with gorgonzola as one appetizer. It had the right balance of sweet and savory. The scallop risotto appetizer was also very flavorful and creamy. The absolute BEST part of our meal was the amazing pork chop. I would go back for this chop over and over again. My boyfriend was also very pleased with his duck over pappardelle pasta. Overall, the ambiance was not the most romantic, but the server was knowledgeable and the food was amazing! I would recommend this place to anyone who frequents Red Bank, but has yet to try this Italian restaurant."

  • "After having reservations for 2 weeks I did not expect to be seated at the table right by the door and then watch people without reservations be seated in the warmer part of the restaurant. With the front door constantly opening and closing it was a bit uncomfortable. I thought the food was very good but the menu a bit limited. I also felt the menu should have a few lower cost options as the average entrée was $25-35."

Everything has a slightly different spin from the usual, and it's evident this chef knows how to combine seasonal ingredients to come up with unique and delicious dishes. Tends to get pretty noisy on a busy Saturday night, so not recommended for a romantic rendezvous ;)"

  • "Went for dinner before a show at the count Basie, and the food was rock solid. Service was great, although this was our second time there and the service was lacking the first time (not bad enough to make us not go back, though). Got us out in plenty of time for the show. Portions were large, and I'm a big eater. My wife and daughter had doggie bags that were enjoyed the next day. The lobster ravioli was excellent, and was a much larger portion than one would expect when ordering lobster ravioli. The veal parm was also an unusually large portion, and delicious. BYO also helps to keep the bill quite reasonable."

  • "I had concerns trying this restaurant out for the first time on New Year's Eve, knowing that it is usually a busy night for restaurants. However, I found the service to be very prompt and considerate, honestly no complaints. I had the Shoestring Potato Crusted Mahi Mahi, and my girlfriend had the Lobster Ravioli, and we both loved our food. We'd been looking forward to a calamari appetizer, which they were unfortunately out of, however the caprese salad with grilled eggplant and zucchini was a wonderful alternative."

  • "It was delicious! I had the house salad for appetizer while my boyfriend had the Caprese. The Caprese was a very generous portion and had not only tomato and mozzarella, but also grilled veggies, (delicious) olives and roasted peppers. Both salads were very fresh. I followed by the Grouper Marechiaro, served with Mussels and Clams in a lovely pomodoro sauce and was served over creamy pancetta risotto. Excellent and again very generous portion. My BF had the Filet Mignon Special with the Bacon & Green Onion Brandy demi-glace, with Roasted potatoes. He asked for it medium rare and it came out a little bit overcooked, but he enjoyed it very much. Beware it's BYO"

  • "I am not sure why, but I don't always think of Monticello when I try and make reservations in Red Bank but decided to give it a try. This is the third time we have eaten there and the food was really good, the service was excellent and while it is like eating in a long dining room, the atmosphere is pleasant. I had the duck that was on the menu that was served with a brown sauce spiked with rosemary. Perfectly prepared and savory. This is going to move Monticello up in our queue for the next time we are going after Italian."

  • "First time at Monticello & they did not disappoint! We started with mushroom ravioli (a special)... outstanding. Our entrees were prepared perfectly.. Potato crusted Mahi Mahi was great (could have been a little lighter on the capers), chicken monticello was very good (chianti reduction was awesome), shrimp notre dame was great. The weakest dish was the grouper marechiaro (the grouper was a little fishy). We ended with the chocolate molten cake and the creme brulee cheesecake which turned out to be one of the highlights of the meal. The cheesecake was light & creamy & the creme brulee topping was phenomenal. The restaurant was charming, but extremely loud. Service was terrific. Will definitely go back."

  • "I was at the restaurant on a Thursday night before a show at the Count Basie Theater. There were about 6 tables filled including ours, but with only 1 waiter. We waited a very long time to order our food and an even longer time waiting for the check. The food was very good, but you would think that on a show night they would have been better staffed."

  • "The food was superb. I had a prosciutto wrapped piece of salmon with a lovely pesto cream sauce. My lady had the duck risotto. Both were excellent. Our waiter warned us a large party was expected and very considerately seated us on the other side of the restaurant near the windows. Water and fresh bread was prompt, but the order taking, serving, removing, and check were all pretty slow coming. The place is a shoebox on Broad St, nicely decorated, but not ostentatious. Go for the food, but bring your own wine and maybe an extra bottle so the wait doesn't wear on you."
