A word from Montgomery Inn - At the Boathouse
Montgomery Inn at the Boathouse is one of the most popular restaurants in Greater Cincinnati. Our world-famous ribs, our friendly service, and our striking view of the Ohio River, makes us a unique restaurant that you and your friends & family will remember long after your meal is over.

Sports fans will love the upstairs sports lounge with sports memorabilia on the walls, as well as the autographed photos of famous visitors who have dropped by. So come on in and get yourself some ribs and watch your favorite team in a fun, classy atmosphere.

Our world-famous ribs are definitely a hard act to follow but we found a way. For dessert, indulge in another Cincinnati culinary tradition: Graeter's black raspberry chip ice cream.

You can always expect very good service and food at Montgomery Inn. It's just who they are and what they do! Food was great! It took a little longer than usual for our food to come out but there were a few larger groups at the time and we were OK with that.

The view was great, as was the bbq sauce, and the service was very good. The meat, however, was merely acceptable. The brisket was a little tough, and the ribs did not quite fall off the bone. Not an awful meal, by any means, but certianly not life changing bbq.

  • Rude Management and Poor Food
    Disappointed
    Dined on 8/16/2014
Took the family of 5 out for a special dinner and was very disappointed with how rude the manager was who seated us. I asked if we could have the window seat which was open and I'd requested a window view when making the reservation and he asked if we'd like to wait an hour to accomodate that request. My adult daughters were shocked by his rudeness and disrespect. Service was the minimum. When the food arrived most of it was cold. Portions were small for the price. Example would be that a half rack of ribs was 5 bones versus the usual 7-8 you would receive other places. Entire family agreed that we'd have rather went to Texas Road House where the service is always good, and the food is awesome and would have cost half the price.

When we got there I had reservations but they said it would be a 15 minute wait still, no biggie... Then thy have this system where they text you when your table is ready... That would be fine if it worked... We had to go back to them and ask then why we were waiting and they said the text must not have gone through so at this point I was pretty angry so far having to wait nearly an hour for the table. After this though, it was perfect, totally worth the wait. They gave us a table with a beautiful view of the river as the sun went down and we ate by candle light. The food and host were perfect and the night turned out perfect would not have changed a thing. I definitely recommend to anyone looking for good food or a great date place.

  • My dining experience
    FirstTimeExperience
    Dined on 8/15/2014
I asked the waiter where the restaurant gets their pork from and he went to ask someone. He came back and said "Kansas". I should have been more specific with my question but what I wanted to know was if he knew anything about the farm or supplier and how the pigs are raised (I was hoping for free range, antibiotic and hormone free etc. etc.). Based on his answer I was left to assume the worst and that the pigs likely come from a factory farm raised under horrible conditions. Then he forgot to place our order for Saratoga chips. Then when we asked him to box them up he never brought them back... This was my first experience at Montgomery Inn. I was not impressed.

Our water glasses were never more than half empty. Our table waiter was very attentive and friendly without being pesky. The meal was wonderful. After the meal we asked for directions to our next venue and had more than pleasant help with that - and accurate directions to boot! We went outside and remembered we wanted a picture to commemorate our experience and the sweet parking lot guy gladly helped us. We were most impressed with the friendly and helpful service all the way around!

We walked up (had reservations) and asked if we could sit outside. What a GREAT Find. The Beer Garden, as they call it, was quiet, scenic and a wonderful place to eat the best ribs EVER. We walked back through the crowded, loud, COLD dining room to get our car and were thankful that we had the good fortune to sit outside.

Visiting from out of town and wanted to see how the real thing (ribs) stacked up to my delicious home grilled versions made with their store bought sauce. First of all, the location and parking is very convenient. The restaurant is situated right on the river with beautiful views from every table. We had our daughters with us and they offer a kids menu. Our server was one of the highlights of our experience. The food was reasonably priced and very good although not seriously memorable. The sauce is similar but not the same as in stores . . . it is much spicier which you may or may not prefer. Overall, a very nice place. Next time I would be going more for the view and ambiance and less for the ribs.

Montgomery Inn was recommended by several friends back home, as well as locals we met at our hotel bar. It was a favorite of the front desk clerk, as well as the bellman; when our hotel doorman hailed us a cab, he told us that we were in for a real treat and the cab driver did the same. What a disappointment! Fun décor, great view of the river, decent service, but did not live up to all the hype and our expectations. Now, let me say that it is not often that a restaurant "knocks our socks off", because my wife is an excellent cook; in particular, when it comes to ribs, she was a runner up in the amateur division of the Cleveland National Rib Burn-Off some years ago, so we are particularly discerning when it comes to ribs. We won't be back.

We found this find last year after recommendation from a friend. Can I say delicious & $$$ priced suitable. If that is not enough, on our visit this time they even have 3/$30 meals. What a deal. If your tight on your budget, 1 order of full slab ribs can feed 2 people. Go enjoy, have a night out. Right for the price!!

As always the restaurant was lovely and the staff attentive and professional, but for whatever reason, our food was slow in coming which for us wasn't a big problem. Two of us got the large slab of ribs and they were dry and not up to the usual high standards of this restaurant. Fortunately the rest of the food and side dishes were wonderful as always, so we would come back.

We were sat out in their Beer Garden which would have been fine if they didn't also have a server station out there (right next to our table) where they threw all the dirty dishes. It was soooooo noisy. They weren't just setting them down in the tubs I saw one server toss a plate which made everyone jump. The servers were not overly friendly which I would expect at a moderately expensive restaurant. Most seemed they were just there to do their job. My steak came out waaaay overdone and my husbands chicken was bland. I feel like they might have made some changes to their food because the Mac n cheese was a lot different from a couple years ago. The noodles were soggy and the cheese was disgusting. And I used to be a big fan of that dish.

Be aware, the reservation through OpenTable is not an actual reservation, but just pulls you to the front of the waiting line when you arrive. We still had to wait 15-20 min. Luckily, we had time, but don't count on your reservation time if you have another engagement. Meal was enjoyable tough and tasty though.

Came here with coworkers before flying out on a Wednesday night. Awesome place right on the river. The service is semi formal but the clientele attire ranged from jacket and tie to business casual to reds and bengals gear. I was very comfortable in my dress shirt and slacks and ordered the single order of ribs which were fantastic. Sauce was sweet and tangy with a tomato base and the meager fell right off the bone. I won't be getting rubs for some time because anywhere else after this will surely be a let down! My experience at the Montgomery inn was great overall.

As out of towners on a road trip, we dined here on the recommendation of many people. Boy were we disappointed! The service was okay, however our server seemed very stressed and didn't have time to make suggestions for us. Based on reviews I read, I decided to order the ribs. I think there may have been some meat under the pool of sauce on my plate but I'm not sure. Anyone who knows real BBQ knows that the meat should stand on its own. We also ordered "Saratoga Chips" based on reviews we read. The plate of kettle chips came out and I was sure they just opened a bag from the supermarket. To make things even stranger, they served the chips with. . . you guessed it . . . more BBQ sauce. For what we paid and what we got - thumbs down.

The "3 for 30" special is the way to go. Blue Cheese Lettuce Wedge is fresh, cold and loaded with bacon. Very appealing. Ribs have a legendary reputation, and they lived up to it in every way. Tender, meaty and smothered in Montgomery Inn's unique "Ribs King" sauce. Sides are ok. The profiterole was rich and delicious. It was a special treat to be seated Bob Hope room. The only bad thing is they pretty much force you to Valet park, as street parking is very minimal. They could easily just let everyone park in the parking lot for free like every other restaurant you go to. Valet only cost $4, but it is the principle of the matter. Otherwise food, service, and view is good.

Montgomery Inn was recommended to us by a friend. It was an excellent choice. The location was great - an excellent view of the river! We ate inside but it was nice to know that on a warmer night outdoor dining would be available. The food was very very good and the server was quite attentive.
