A word from Montgomery Inn - At the Boathouse
Montgomery Inn at the Boathouse is one of the most popular restaurants in Greater Cincinnati. Our world-famous ribs, our friendly service, and our striking view of the Ohio River, makes us a unique restaurant that you and your friends & family will remember long after your meal is over.

Sports fans will love the upstairs sports lounge with sports memorabilia on the walls, as well as the autographed photos of famous visitors who have dropped by. So come on in and get yourself some ribs and watch your favorite team in a fun, classy atmosphere.

Our world-famous ribs are definitely a hard act to follow but we found a way. For dessert, indulge in another Cincinnati culinary tradition: Graeter's black raspberry chip ice cream.

  • "I would like to start off by saying that everyone was friendly, from the vale to the waiter. The dinning atmosphere complimented the great warm weather and beautiful bright full moon, perfect. Food and drinks couldn't get better excellent, excellent, excellent two thumbs up. "

  • "We hadn't been down for a while, nice weather and a gift card were reasons to come. Of course, always the food. We used open table and saw we could get in at 9:00. We got there a few minutes early but found that we had to wait 30 mins as if we just showed up normally. Not a big deal, went to the bar but ended up staying up there to eat because we were hungry. All was great but we may know next time that it's not necessarily beneficial to use this service. "

  • "Not being from Cincy, I had no idea about this restaurant. After going, I would definitely recommend it to anyone in Cincy. Located conveniently along the banks of the Ohio river, it is quiet scenic. When you walk into the restaurant, you will be overwhelmed with all of the sports and nostalgia items strewn throughout the restaurant. I was disappointed that I didn't go upstairs and view the Bob Hope meeting room or the baseball section. The coolest item I saw was an original autograph from Muhammad Ali and signed it both Ali and Cascius Clay. The food was great, the service was even better. Most got the ribs, but one had the brisket. Overall, great food and great location equals a great night."

  • "Went on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It was busy but not too crowded and the tables are set up so there's a nice view of the river. Had the steak special and it was amazing. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food especially the ribs. Our server was friendly, helpful and attentive."

  • "Montgomery Inn is known for it's barbecue sauce. It's pretty good (though I know some who swear it is the best). The chicken was cooked pretty well. The baked potato was way better. Yeah, I said the potato was better than the sauce & chicken. The shrimp were gross. The salads were OK (they forgot to give me all the types of veggies they put in my husband's salad), but their ranch is tasty. The view is good if you're in the window, but the rest of the interior is run down and smoke-stained. Overall, it was a fair tasting meal, the type you'd expect at any restaurant like Frisch's or Shoney's. The price is at least 4 times what you'd pay for a meal there. Either lower the prices or make the food worth the money."

  • "My wife & I have tried Montgomery Inn 3 or 4 times in the last 5 years or so. We see nothing special & we have ordered the ribs or ribs & chicken on all occasions. They are kind of so-so, a little dry & should have the sauce cooked into the ribs. They seem to be cooked at an earlier time then heated up & barbeque sauce poured on just before serving them. Frankly they did not have a grilled flavor to them, every time we have had them. We thought we would buy the Groupon & give MI one more try."

  • "This was our first time at the Montgomery Inn- Boathouse. It was casual but yet classy. Food was delicious & the service was excellent. Price range is $15- $30 for dinner but well worth it. We plan to make this a yearly trip for our family."

  • "Had family in from out of town who had heard about Montgomery Inn via word of mouth and wanted to try the ribs. We decided to go to the Boathouse location and it was perfect. My In-laws enjoyed the river view and my brother in law loved all of the sports memorabilia. Although the rest of my group enjoyed Montgomery Inn's well known ribs and chicken, I went "out of the box" and tried that nights seafood special, which was incredible. Our server Gary did an excellent job. There was never an empty drink, which is a big deal for a thirsty man such as myself, and he entertained our table with anecdotes about some of the more notorious clientele. Using OpenTable really helped us get seated much faster. Thank you for such a great experience!"

  • "The food was okay the service was at best mediocre. Went to bar area for drinks while we waited to be seated. Long delay for drinks no napkins or water even longer wait for Saratoga chips Server was annoyed we asked for napkins never came back and asked if we wanted another round. When we were called for our table my husband had to almost beg to be waited on to pay bar bill. Then the server for dinner was so slow and could only handle one thing at a time even though it was 9PM and the crowd had cleared. We felt very embarrassed as we brought a friend from out of town who had been waiting to try the famous Montgomery Inn and experience was not good. Food was okay but service was terrible."

  • "Made reservations for 5PM. Seated about an hour later. Called to let restaurant know we were celebrating a birthday and if possible would like window seating. She said that shouldn't be a problem, since we were dining early. She also told me to tell the server about the birthday. The girl at check in said they would text when they are ready to seat us, in about 15 minutes. 45 minutes later we were texted. I reminded her that we requested a window. She said, "oh, you will have to wait an hour and and a half longer for a window seat". Her nonchalant attitude was insulting! The only really good experience was our server/"

  • "We enjoyed everything except the fact that it is very difficult for a handicapped person to get into the restaurant. The hill is steep for an elderly person on a walker. Perhaps a note to people on the website telling them about this difficulty would help in finding a more accessible restuaraunt when we go with someone who has difficulty walking. The Boat House needs to think about a small elevator to help. They have one at the Montgomery location for just a couple of steps.Other than that our server was terrific and the food was great."

  • "My out-of-town guests loved the breath-taking view of the city and the expansive BBQ and side options."

  • "Service was very good as well as the overall atmosphere. Great appetizer, even though their choices are limited. Found the main course underwhelming at best. The BBQ sauce was way to sweet for my taste, but that's a personal preference, I found the ribs to be very dry and and the fatty membrane still intact. Very disappointed for a place that was recommended so highly as a "rib" restaurant."

  • "We were dining with out of town friends and had a party of 8. We were only able to book a reservation for two, parties of 4 but asked that we be seated near each other when the reservation was made. The girls at the hostess station were unreasonable when it came to even asking if this was a possibility. They seemed annoyed by the request. When I saw the manager I asked him and he not only seated us near each other but together. I was thankful for his help. The manager has been at this establishment for close to 25 years, he is polite and grateful to see his restaurant full. The teenage hostesses who were easily overwhelmed and annoyed were a drawback. Our service was impeccable as we ate and the food was delicious. Not over priced."

  • "Had dinner reservation for 8 prior to a Bruce Springsteen concert at US Bank Arena. This was our first time at the restaurant. Was seated promptly at the designated time. The dinner menu has a variety of options with barbeque being their specialty and all were very satisfied with their choice. One added bonus if you are attending an event at the arena or the baseball park is when I drove in the parking lot I was asked by the valet parking attendant (valet parking was only $3) what brought us to Montgomery Inn and I told him about the concert. He informed me that I could leave the car there and walk to the concert which I did. It was at most a 15 minute walk along the river walk."

  • "Have dined here many times, usually while entertaining out of town guests. This food has gone down hill but the ambiance is fun as it is right on the river, my nephew nephew loved all of the sports memorabilia. Our server was great and very kind to the children."

  • "We had a party of 6 we were seated in a reasonable timely manner of our reservation time. The food was excellent we all ordered the 3 for $30.00 which was plenty of food, our server did an excellent job with out disrupting our table conversation."

  • "We visited Montgomery Inn because we had a gift card. The restaurant is always very busy for dinner so I called ahead and made reservations. I still had to wait a few minutes to be seated, but the staff was friendly. The food was delicious, but because of the large amount of patrons (it was a Friday night), the service was a little slower than desired. It should not take over 30 minutes between the salad delivery and the entree delivery. The food was great, though and I could tell by the service being received at nearby tables, that the kitchen was getting food out asap. The restaurant was at capacity. Make sure you bring good company to distract you from wait times if you go on a busy night."

  • "I had heard for years from people about the ribs from Montgomery Inn. After all the years I thought I would surprise my son who loves ribs. Unfortunately, the ribs we had were very mediocre. They were over cooked and dry. The sauce was not very impressive either. We both left a good portion of our meals on the plate and have no plans to return. More so, when I told the waitress that we were disappointed - after she asked us how the meal was - I did not have anyone from the restaurant follow up with me while I was there."

  • "We had a solid recommendation for this spot and I'm so glad we listened. With a great river view, the ribs, pork, and chicken are scrumptious, sides so well prepared, and the black raspberry ice cream is superb!. But even with all of this great dining and view, the star remains RON our engaging knowledgeable server who made our evening a joy. A definite must return when we visit Cincinnati again!"

  • "The overall dining experience was enjoyable. There was a large, boisterous group seated when we first got there, but after they left, the atmosphere was quite enjoyable. I felt that the entrees were a little pricey in proportion to the size of the entrée. $35 for a 10oz filet mignon seemed a little steep."

  • "We try to eat at a Montgomery Inn when we get to Cincy. This time we wanted to go to the Boathouse since it is close to the show we had tickets for. Outstanding food as expected. Service was accurate and prompt. The view of the river and the park added to the inside ambience. And this visit was extra good because we had a table right at the glass on a beautiful early spring day."

  • "We had commented on line, where we made our reservation, that "it would be nice to have a window seat". When we arrived at 7:30 for our reservation the receptionist made a comment that she remembered that we wanted a window seat and said that it would be just a few minutes until our table was ready. We went upstairs to the bar to wait, enjoying the view of the river and watching the basketball game on TV and our buzzer went off within 10 min. Had a very nice table overlooking the river and a very nice up beat waiter. We both enjoyed a full rack of ribs each and left nothing for the doggie bag!!"

  • "I have always been a fan of Montgomery Inn Boathouse, but my husband was not. However this experience changed his mind. He has a new opinion of the facility because of Bob Hope room. The smaller dining room with a great view of the river was a hidden treasure! He loved it and is excited to return!"

  • "Service level was only so so. It seemed waitress was inexperienced in services associated with wines. For instance, she never poured an empty glass after the initial pour. She was ignorant of the wines in the short wine list. When I received the check, there was no pen so I used mine, but forgot to take it back and left it with the restaurant. Based on this experience, it seems she needs a stricter training regimen."

  • "Montgomery Inn had great atmosphere. It started with $4 valet parking. What a great price! The food was well priced for what you get: great ribs, excellent salads! The Boathouse is right on the river so it makes for a great atmosphere to. We loved it! Would go there again."

  • "We were in Cincinnati for a family trip, and a friend from Cincy recommended Montgomery Inn. We made reservations and were not disappointed. We were seated immediately with a river view as requested thru Open Table. Our service was a little slow, but that is because they gave our waitress 3 groups at once. Another server and the mater dei both stepped in to assist and it was no problem at all. Everyone was upbeat and helpful. The only suggestion I have is that if you want the ribs appetizer, I'd suggest you expect it as part of your meal. Our server explained that it takes as long to prepare them as the ribs for your meal, so they can't be rushed. Everything was great, and it will be a must with every trip from now on."

  • "The Boathouse is great for special occasion dining when you're willing to overlook the fact that the food is merely average. My biggest frustration with our recent visit was that despite having an online reservation, we were informed that only gave us "priority seating" status and that we would still be waiting 45 minutes for a table. This should be clearly communicated when the reservation is made to avoid the host/hostess staff dealing with disgruntled diners. I have tried the ribs on two different occasions and still do not understand the appeal. They are a gooey mess of pork with the only flavor coming from the MI's signature sauce which is outstanding. I have to say that the pork chop was fabulous!"

  • "We made reservations . Arrived in time still waited 50 minutes to be seated. We were seated at the last table lower lever next to where the servers log there orders. My chair was continuously hit by them walking by and they were so loud we asked to move but she but our server said basically that is was not going to happen. We got out food and my husbands food was burnt. Again we told our server who said sorry. Really just sorry at that point our evening was already disappointing. We have never had this type of experience there before. Diane Acree"

  • "I went there on a Friday night and it was kid night. Kids in the bar while we waited, and parties with kids in the restaurant. The party was so loud as a grandma was yelling across the area to someone else as a kid was sitting on the table right above our heads, as we were on the lower level. NOT the semi-romantic dinner I was expecting especially after I requested special seating here on Open Table. It appears the special request box in the reservation area is ignored."

  • "Our servicer was engergetic, friendly and did a great job. Only complaint would be mine out of a early dinner party of 5. Order the brisket special for that day, brisket tender, grits were a fun side, slaw, and came with the special corn cake. Unforturnatly the corn cake was so hard I only was able to get a taste from a softer area. too hard to eat."

  • "We were a little disappointed with our service. We sat for quite a bit before given water. The waiter took our order and then said he would be right back with our bread. We waited for quite a while and our drinks were empty. When he finally returned with our appetizer I asked about the bread and he said oh yeah I was just waiting. The people next to us were seated after us an had their bread and drinks long before us and we had less people in our party (5). Over all it was a nice time for our special occasion. We were just disappointed in the service for such an expensive and nice place."
