We try to make it a point to have dinner here anytime we visit Pittsburgh. The seafood is always fresh and there is always a great number of dishes to choose from. Strawberry salmon and blackened swordfish are some of our favorites.

Wonderful dinner at Monterey Bay. The fish menu is expansive, with the daily fish list offering 20-25 choices. Everything we had, from shrimp to swordfish, was cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. Service was fast and courteous, the views of Pittsburgh from the restaurant are unparallelled, and it's within a 5-minute walk from the Duquesne Incline. It is pricey, but it's worth it. Dress code says jacket not required, but almost all men there were in suits and ties. Bar service was slow, that's the only negative we experienced (which was when we were waiting for out table, that didn't affect the dinner itself).

Monterey Bay was an amazing find for us on our first trip to Pittsburgh (from Detroit). We were with a friend who insisted that Monterey would be the most enjoyable evening, after the Incline ride to the top of Mt. Washington. The short walk from the incline was easy, and the entrance to the restaurant was fabulous with the windowed elevator ride to the top floor restaurant. We were greeted promptly and escorted to our window seat. The food was delectable! Amazing presentations with unique menu items. Our server was helpful in choosing from the many options. The manager helped us in finding an 'after dinner' venue. I would rank this entire experience with 5-star rating. I look forward to dining here again on my next visit to Pittsburgh.

I dined here with a friend for my birthday. Our waiter was professional and friendly. I had their signature crab cakes with a side of asparagus. My girlfriend had the surf and turf. Both meals were excellent! Our waiter then told me dessert was on the house for me because it was my birthday. I ended up with white chocolate mousse along with praline cookies and "happy birthday" spelled out in chocolate and a candle. The restaurant overlooks the Point where you can see the Three Rivers and the city. Valet parking is $6.00. Most definitely will return.

After a previous bad experience, a manager contacted me and wanted to "make it right" as the situation was not handled well. They did indeed "make it right" and we had an enjoyable, very good dinner. Glad we went back and had the kind of evening we expect at Monterey Bay.

While visiting the Pittsburgh area for only 24 hours, we wanted to enjoy a great meal with a view. Not knowing the area, we used local reviews as a guide. This restaurant was perfect! Monterrey Bay Fish Grotto provided us with a spectacular view of the Pittsburgh skyline from Mount Washington. Our meal was fantastic - best Ahi tuna ever....ever. We will definitely return to this special restaurant.

We have gone to this restaurant NUMEROUS times. The food was always excellent and the atmosphere special. This time 2 major issues. The calamari was so salty, we had to send it back. They did correct quickly, so not a major problem. There was an air vent blowing extremely cold air on us all evening, and although we we told by the manager there would be an adjustment, that did not happen. It truly ruined this special night for us. Too many other good choices in Pittsburgh to consider this with our top rate preferences.

Although expensive, average about $120 pp in our group which included apps, dinner, wine, drinks, and desert, we felt that the value of the experience was worth it The view is unbelievable. Food quality and service was superb. We never felt rushed, although out dinners came out quick, once I asked our waiter to slow down, he complied. I travel a lot throughout the US and Europe. Next time I come to Pittsburgh, this will be one of my spots for either entertaining business clients or my love. She would have enjoyed the experience and I would have had some good brownie points to redeem. We basically ordered everything we could and everything was spot on. So, go here, enjoy the view and food. Reflect on how great your life has become.

I have been going to Monterey Bay for years now, and have noticed a steady decline in the quality of the food. However, this last experience was the worst I have had. There were four of us for dinner, and three of the meals were not good. At this point, I am not sure I would return.

My husband and I had 7:00 reservations last night. He made them ahead of time, and requested a window, and told them specifically that it was for my birthday. On a positive note, we had a beautiful window seat. We haven't been to Montery Bay for approximately 2-3 years, and were looking forward to it. I ordered my usual, the crabcakes. Unfortunately, the crab cakes were so creamy, I couldn't eat them. Hardly any crab. And my husband ordered surf and turf, and it turned into the joke of the table. The steak was teeny tiny, and I never knew they made lobster tails that small. On top of that, no "birthday dessert", and no mention of it from the waitress. What happened to the Monterey Bay we knew and loved years ago? All four of us - not happy

The menu is a la carte and pricey. The food was delicious but still... I'm not sure the view is worth the cost. MBFG tries to provide a great view by using tiered seating but some tables are obstructed by fellow diners and decor. The elevator to the restaurant was not working when we arrived (7:15 p.m. Sat. 8/30/14) so the staff had to trek us through hallways and storage areas to reach the general elevators in the main part of the building. Once upstairs, we were again led through back hallways through the back part of the restaurant to the "front desk" Maitre D. There was no offer of compensation from the staff for the literal run-around (a comped appetizer or beverage would have been appreciated). Shame.

It was my first time and my wife's third time to dine at the restaurant. It was a wonderful experience. I had heard it was very good and sometimes when you know that ahead of time you have high expectations that can never be met. Not this time though. The restaurant was everything I heard it was and more. Food was outstanding, service was excellent, view was spectacular. Although they have a first class reputation as a fine restaurant, they don't take anything for granted and work very hard at maintaining that reputation. The only drawback is that you have to use valet parking and they charge you to park and it's not cheap. Nonetheless we would go back again and again without hesitation.

We were told about this place when we were visiting Pittsburgh for the first time, and it was a big hit! We had planned to sit in the main di in area but no window tables with a view. We decided to wait, and then we're told we could actually eat in the lounge, which we did. We were given a corner table overlooking the city -- the best table in the house! Crab cakes were broiled and delicious! Tuna was great. Combination appetizer was the best! There's a daily menu (with the date) and all fish listed has it's origin. It was a fantastic experience and the service was over the top.

We are not lucky to sit at the windows, well, to be fair, it isn't about luck because there is a FIFO queue for the windows, we arrived at 9 and find out it still takes about half hour to get the window seats. We decided not to wait cuz we are hungry, however, the window view is beautiful. The restaurant is on the top floor of a building on a mountain top! I bet there are no better places to view the city like that. The food are great too, I have to drive so I miss the beverages, I tried the Greece style grilled whole fish.

We took 4 out of towners to dinner last Saturday night. Our party of eight was seated exactly at the time of our reservation. The manager greeted us at our table and our waitress was most helpful during the meal. The food was perfect (I had the halibut special and it was excellent). We arrived at 7 pm and left after dark. Our guests were able to see the city before and after sunset. My only disappointment was that I was told for a party of 8 we could not have a table by the windows….so our view during dinner was not as spectacular as I had hoped.
