This place has an enviable location across the street from the Regional Center for the Arts. The food is tasty and fresh, although the cuisine would certainly not be described as innovative or haute cuisine, but rather good down-home country Italian food. Portions are very generous, and I can rarely finish my plate. The prices are quite reasonable, especially for the location. It can get a bit on the noisy side. The value for the money is excellent. I always leave happy and satisfied--although perhaps not impressed.

There are many dining option in Walnut Creek and Montecatini has stood the test-of-time for good reasons. Great food, great service, happy hour drink and appetizer specials all at a reasonable price. Reservations strongly advised--Montecatini is small and popular.

We eat out in downtown Walnut Creek at least twice a month. We'd gone to Montecatini many, many years ago and recalled it as incredibly noisy--couldn't have a normal conversation. So we've avoided it all this time. On a whim, I booked there for pre-theater dinner (very convenient to the Lesher Center). Staff was very pleasant, service was well above average and the food was quite good. As it was relatively early, the noise level was not bad. Might be noisier if the place was full, but carpet on the floor and an acoustical ceiling should keep the noise level under control. We'll give it another try.

After a quick research we decided to give Montecatini in Walnut Creek a try. True to the many reviews - can't judge this 'book' by its covers. The pasta specials we ordered were delicious and portions reasonably large. I loved the delicious bread basket paired with wonderful extra virgin olive oil. Only wish there was a bottle of good balsamic vinegar to go with it. I highly recommend this restaurant for delicious food, great ambiance, and most of all an attentive staff.

We had our first experience here and we felt the food was excellent, portions were large and were pleasantly surprised they have a happy hour menu even on Saturday! Their salad was very fresh, chicken cooked under a brick was divine and their eggplant Parmesan was as good as I've ever had. I go to italy twice a year and the quest for authentic Italian food is constant! We were happy to find this charming cozy spot with great food and a great vibe! We will go back for sure!

We had not been here for a while. First thing we noticed was we didn't know anyone working except for the bartender and Chef (who is always there). They have cleaned up the inside and it has a nice feeling. The food was good, but notice a slight change in serving size and the prices went up. I had the scampi and it was good, not as good as it use to be. They use smaller shrimp at a higher price (more shrimp). My b/f had the chicken scallopini, it was good. The best is the carpaccio and the Tiramasu! The absolute best!

I've been coming here since 1990, and it's still as good as ever. Great Italian just like you like with a great selaction of regular menu items with daily specials that just keep you coming back. My only complaint is the noise level when they are full. While I understand they are shooting for an authentic Italian feel to the place, they need to put in some acoustic tile. The new owners Chef Ermes Paulin, and his wife Teresa Cheung have added some great touches to the place, such as printing the specials and, of course, adding Open Table reservations. There is also now a happy hour! This is my favorite Italian place in the entire bay area, due to it's plain simplicity and great people.

In honor or my brother's birthday (which I informed them of when I made my reservation) our table was sprinkled with confetti. As soon as my brother said it was his 21st birthday they gave him a drink on the house. When my friends didn't like the drinks they ordered our fantastic waiter replaced them and left the drinks off our bill. The noise was a little loud, but it was perfect for a group of 7 twenty-year-olds who do not have inside voices. We are all foodies, and we had bites of everything, it was all incredible. One of our friends is less experimental with food, so he ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo, and even that was amazing. We had a fabulous evening! We will definitely become regulars.

On our recent visit to the Montecatini restaurant, we felt like being on vacation in Tuscany. The owner, Teresa, came to sit with us after the excellent meal, the waiters were exceptionally polite and efficient, and even the chef, Ermes Paulin, came over to discuss his magic which was a real treat. The wine list is extensive, and the 2008 Borolo we shared was wonderful. We left happily and recommend Montecatini for all fans of good Italian cuisine.

I've been coming to Montecatini for years now , and I think it's the best italian restaurant around this area! The food is always wonderful and portions are large ! The pasta is always fresh and seafood is wonderful. I especially like the shrimp and tomatoe salad on a bed of butter lettuce. It's a meal in itself! It tends to get a little noisy on weekends but the food makes up for it! Highly recommend this place to all that like good italian food and service!

I was a little worried when I saw the outside of the restaurant because it isn't very pretty and it's a bit run down, but when you walk in, it's like a completely different place! So cute and nice ambience. I let them know it was by birthday and they put confetti on the table :) The wine was good, they had a good happy hour, and the dinner was delicious. I had the gnocchi with a type of vodka sauce with garlic and it just melted in my mouth. I would recommend this place!

My husband first came here shortly after they opened in 1989. 25 years later we're still coming back. The delicious food and service never changes, which is a good thing. You don't see consistency, year after year at many establishments these days, which is what sets Montecatini apart from so many. Too bad about the noise level, but it is what it is! Looking forward to many more return visits.

We were received with a very warm welcome smile from the lady who gladly got us a table eve when we arrived 30 min early... Food was amazing as service was outstanding... It's a very nice place definitely will go back to try different plates... They have a good variety if desserts, but need some improvement on that... I wish dessert was as good as our main meals:-) Parking can be a little challenging because of the location of the restaurant... Over all I give a 5 STARS...😉

This restaurant came highly recommended by a friend. I was anticipating a nice dinner date with my wife and grown children, unfortunately it was so noisy we could not have a conversation. I think the wine was kicking in for most of the tables there. ( We don't drink) . A few tables had crying babies or unsupervised children watching videos on their iPhones. It was not a very pleasant experience for $175.00 The hostess and busboys were great. They always kept the bread basket and water and ice tea glasses full. The waiter took about twenty minutes to take our order and was very unapologetic. He did not make us feel welcome. The food was very good with decent portions. Unfortunately, we will seek other restaurants for our Italian cravings.
