Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of Vail's premier restaurants. The seafood flown in almost daily and the oysters are incredible, not to mention having several types to choose from. The place is not cheap so the clientele will be older and more affluent. Just try it and you will go back time and again."

  • "Being the only seafood restaurant in vail, we figured we would give it a try. To our great delight it was fabulous."

  • "We had an excellent meal--calamari, Idaho trout and ahi Tuna. All really fresh, tasty/well prepared. Highly recommended."

  • "Seafood is always fresh. There are other selections for those who do not care for seafood, but seafood is their forte!!!."

  • "Delicious perfect food and great service! The oysters, halibut and tuna were perfect!"

  • "Horrible service and the food was less then par. The side items were bland and lacking variety. Service was horrible. Never got beverages refilled after paying $3 for a coke. For the price I would go elsewhere....."

  • "We had dinner at Montauk Seafood Grill and although the food was good, we thought the menu was limited and not very creative. We did not enjoy one of the appetizers (fish tacos) at all. The following night we had dinner at Sweet Basil and while we paid the same price we found the food to be delicious, the service was very attentive and overal had a much better dining experince. We would not recommend this place to friends since there are better options."

  • "We started our meal with an appetizer of mussels which were out of this world. Our meals were fantastic. We ordered the ahi tuna, scallops, seafood linguine, and the king crab. The service was wonderful. Great food and great night."

  • "In our ten days at Vail, this was the best restaurant by far. The food was excellent and we had the best waiter of the trip."
    Dined on 2/24/2014
  • "Consistently good selection and preparation of a wide variety of seafood dishes. That's why we have been coming year after year."

  • "Why does it always seem that the first time to a nice restaurant is the best? We returned to The Montauk Grill 1 year later, and the service seemed poor (our waitress appeared disinterested) AND WHILE THE SEAFOOD WAS GREAT, THE SIDES THAT ACCOMPANIED THE DISHES WERE BORING- quartered potatoes and julienned veggies or slaw."

  • "Very rude manager , over priced for what you get Small portions , much better restaurants in vail with Way better food and service, go to la bottega or alpen Rose instead!!!"

  • "The food was good and well prepared but the presentations were basic & uninspired. The service was very good and our server was well-informed. The restaurant is apearing a little worn and in need of a facelift, both the menu and the physical rest."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "The grilled entrees were both perfectly cooked. Moist and not at all dry or too firm. The veggies were a nice melody of a few things. The potatoes are steamed and then tossed in garlic and butter. Very tasty and yet still firm enough not to have the common mushy taste. You won't be disappointed. The owner/chef came out to everyone's table to make all was right, which I appreciated."

  • "Excellent food as always. Great drink listing! Manager came over, sat down and talked with us about the food and the drinks. Just missing the garlic fries from days gone by."

  • "Food is always good and the service is top notch. Our party had a good sampling of the menu and everyone was happy with their meal. The lobster mac and cheese is a must have!"

  • "This was a spectacular meal from start to finish! Great service, fresh food and amazing favors... Would recommend to anyone looking for a great seafood variety in Vail."

  • "Although our calamari starter was great, some of the rest of the meal was disappointing. The chilean sea bass, trout and tilefish were all fine, but the sides were awful. I think the four of us left them all uneaten."

  • "We try to eat here every year when we are in Vail. The seafood is always fresh and delicious. We started some of the specialty cocktails, the bee hive and the mellow gold, which were very good. We shared an order of mussels to start. We dined on the ahi tuna, seafood linguini, and grilled shrimp. We finished the meal with an ice cream pie called, sand pie which was great. The food and service was all very good."

  • "Seafood is always fresh- never a fishy odor. Service is polite, efficient. Other entrees for non-fish eaters."

  • "Montauk has been a restaurant where we have dined before. The portions are large and the food is good. So, its a great family spot if you have hungry teenagers that have been skiing all day."

  • "We eat at Montauk every time we visit Vail. The food is always excellent, the waiters are very knowledgeable and they retain their staff year after year."

  • "I selected Montauk among the most talked about on the internet and has exceeded our expectation ! It was great !"

  • "We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Menu had lots of choices and were willing to accommodate special requests. Would highly recommend."
    Dined on 1/17/2014
  • "The fish everyone in group ordered was great but the sides were very bland potatoes, rice, cold slaw type dish, vegetables. It felt and tasted like sides were just kept in large warming dish and scooped on each plate through a cafeteria line. Presentation of food was not that appealing for the price paid."

  • "We go to montauk every time we are in vail. The chef accommodates all special orders deliciously. This time for starters we ordered calamari, a traditional wedge salad and for entrees, the ahi tuna and the seafood linguini in lobster/white wine broth. The pasta was chocked full of seafood. All very good. And enough for leftovers but too full for dessert! A neighboring table noted our items and ordered the same things. They were also delighted! I saw items on other neighboring tables that I'm eager to try next time. The mussels looked great and we heard the oysters were outstanding. There are so many good choices, it's hard to get to them all!"

  • "Everything was perfectly prepared, service fabulous and food terrific!!!"

  • "While the food was very good, the service was lacking. The kitchen apparently forgot about our food as did our server, and all he could say was that they were sorry they were backed up (even though diners all around us were getting served). He had no idea about what were appropriate portions as well."

  • "I do this very infrequently, but felt compelled to write this review because dinner at Montauk Seafood Grill was one of the best dinning experiences that I've had in years! The service was exceptional from the greeting by the hostess right to the chef coming out to see how our dinner was. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgable, and made great recommendations! The food was excellent. When in Vail this restaurant is a must!!!"

  • "Montauk is always a treat, and this time was exceptionally so. The service was fantastic (Ron was our server), the drinks were delicious (Bee Hives all around, a new addition to the menu). Oysters were fresh and delicious. Our family of five was split between the ahi and toro dish as to which was more spectacular - we all tried to be the last to savor that final bite. Coming to the restaurant is a treat, but for those of us spending the holiday away from home, this meal could not have been more special. Thank you to Montauk for such a great experience!"

  • "I had the Mahi with Parm Risotto, which was exceptional. My husband had the mussels, which were good but not great. He said he had hoped they would have had a garlic note in the sauce and would have come with a grilled, buttered bread. The blue wedge was also very good, with a WONDERFUL dressing!"

  • "We had ordered vodka martinis. The wait staff did not know about their new vodka offered called Titos. We received the drinks and they were very weak and the vodka hardly could be tasted. We did tell the waiter, who didn't seem too concerned. Otherwise the dinners were very good."

  • "The food was excellent. There were four of us and we were celebrating a birthday. The waiter was very helpful in recommending items from the menu. I had a salmon dish and it was cooked to perfection. The other meals were also cooked to perfection. The presentation of the dishes was good. Since this was off season, the prices were reasonable. In season, the prices would be much higher. All in all, the experience was wonderful."

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. The chef honored a request and prepared a special meal for she and I that was not on the menu. The seafood pot pie was FABULOUS!"
