Diner Reviews
  • "have been dining here almost weekly for several years. Staff is great, food is consistently very good and the chef is always trying new, fun menu items. Locally grown products make it special.."

  • "Been here 3-4 times every time I get to Bozeman. Always good!"

  • "I ordered the bison meatloaf. It tasted pretty good, though was a bit salty for my taste. Ditto with the accompanying mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the bison burger cooked medium. It came out pretty rare instead. Hubbie ate the burger, but didn't really enjoy it. The response from the restaurant staff was less than satisfactory - they comped a glass of wine. Next time through Bozeman, we'll try a different place."

  • "Very popular spot but easy to tell why. Great food, good variety on the menu, and terrific service. Would not hesitate to go here again or recommend to anyone in the area."

  • "Go with low expectations and perhaps you will be surprised because we set the bar too high based on previous posts. The wedge was lukewarm, the steak sandwich was chewy and not really a sandwich. The lovely ladies at the desk that greet you are vapid and quickly forget you exist and had a reservation."

  • "We eat here every time we are in Bozeman. They are always packed! Be sure to make reservations. I called in late to make a reservation for 8:30 p.m. and was told there were no openings. I got on this app (Open Table) and made a reservation for the same time and got in. I'm not sure why they told me they had no openings when they did. The food is great and the servers are very friendly. I highly recommend this dining establishment."

  • "We travel to Montana for Georgia at least once a year and this has become a must for each trip. Great beer! Great food and Pool tables. what more can you ask. This June's trip was no exception. had Asian wings and a buffalo patty melt. Will be back for more next year."

  • "The onion soup and steak au poivre were very good. It was insanely busy--on a weeknight (Monday). It was by far the noisiest dining experience I have ever ever had. Could hardly talk at our table for 3."

  • "Absolutely excellent restaurant for evening meals! The main dining area is first-come, first-served and can be quite lively, especially around the bar. There is a somewhat private dining area known as the "Grill Room" that is generally a few decibels quieter and for which reservations are accepted. The food and service have been consistent over my 8 years of dining there. They offer fresh seafood in addition to steaks and sandwiches. There are early-bird offerings and chef specials. They have a good selection of craft beers and a decent wine list in addition to a full bar. The secret is long gone--you need to get there early or later but you are sure to have a wonderful meal!"

  • "Had dinner with a party of 5 in the Ale Works. Great micro brew selection, many local brewers. Food was top notch with significant portions. Plenty to take home. Tried a couple of appetizers, recommended by waiter and they where great. The main courses were outstanding. We will definitely return to the Ale Works. Our guests loved it as well. The waiter was top notch and we were never wanting for anything."

  • "I had the meatloaf, it was excellent it had bacon inside which was delicious. My fiancé had their burger (with nothing on it) and she said it was easily one of the best burgers she's had, I had a bite and I agree wholeheartedly!"

  • "This is a large place and most of the restaurant is an open bar-like atmosphere which is best enjoyed with a group of friends out for a fun evening. It also makes a great place for a refined diner reserved through Open Table. We have always been seated in the Grill Room with OT reservations and this is a relatively quiet room aside from the active door to the kitchen. Great beer list and great food."

  • "We truly enjoyed our time here. We got there a little bit before our reservation and was able to grab a drink at the bar. What a beverage selection!! When we were seated for dinner, our waiter was amazing. Very friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was amazing too! Perfect portions and well paired. It was a great experience and we will definitely be back!"

  • "The grill room is a nice quite spot for dining. The bar area is the more happening place. Very good food, and they know how to deal with food allergies! The servers are always very nice and helpful. We go here fairly often, so I wish the menu was larger and a little more diverse."

  • "Food here was good. I had a hamburger and it was great. I had it with cheese and onions. If I was going again I would have it plan as the Burger was so good it did not need anything else. The star here is the Service. All of the workers were constantly moving and helping clients whether they were in there responsiblity or not."

  • "The food specials they offer are awesome and so is the regular menu. The burgers are great. Have had burgers there five times before and every one has been amazing. I have had just about everything on the menu there and the only thing I would not order again is the mac and cheese, it just wasn't of the same quality that the rest of the food they offer is. I usually go later in the night on a Friday for dinner, order a scotch to start then pick one of the many beers they have and order food. It's the specials that get me to come in, I check the specials online and if there is something that stands out (usually at least two items) then I go. The bar/high tables are a little noisy but the grill room is not noisy at all. 4.5*"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here - in fact, it was the best of our week in WY and Montana. I had the paella special which was absolutely fabulous, my husband had the shepherd pie which he thought was great. Excellent server who helped choose beers for us. The only issue is that it is NOISY, so if you like to be able to talk to each other without yelling, go into the side room by the hostess."

  • "We're visiting from Homestead, Florida. The first time we visited, note was taken that most of those being seated had made reservations, nonetheless, we had no phone service so that was out of the question. However, despite us not having reservations, we were recognized, and attention given during our wait. We discovered while looking on line, reservations could be made without the means of either a land or cell line provider. We booked our dinner for 9:45pm, we arrived about 20 minutes early and sat within 2 minutes. I wish to recognize those for the greatest and outstanding service we received on 9/9/2013 table 17/1 @ 8:56pm 7/70050 our first visit to Dug and on 9/14/2013 table 5/1 @ 9:36pm 6/60049 our second visit to Amy. Thank-You."

  • "We had a fantastic dinner at Montana Ale Works on Tuesday August the 20th, 2013. We had reservations and although they were incredibly busy, our wait staff and food were both excellent! I had the steak special and it came out quick and delicious! Drinks were well priced and will definitely come here every time we are in Bozeman!"

  • "A fab place for dinner. My husband and I are foodies. And when I had the occasion to meet james beard in San Francisco years ago he inquired how my dinner was, I told him not that great but when we walked in the restaurant and saw him I knew all the chefs were preparing for him and the dishwasher was probably cooking for us...I have been taking cooking lessons for 40 years and usually the best dinners we have had are what we fix at home. We had the best filet of beef we have ever had at any restaurant....chicken curry soup wonderful. And divine desserts....it is a fun place...nothing stuffy or hautey.. A great dinner and I will certainly return....now as james beard said, "when u r paying for good food u should receive quality" and we did."

  • "We saw reviews on TripAdvisor and got the hint that it is best to get a reservation if possible. We made the reservation and were happy we did. The bar was hopping. There were about 10-15 people waiting to be seated in the bar. When we reported in and showed them our open table reservation we were seated within 10 minutes. the reservation area is closed off from the bar area so it is quieter. Tables are covered with linen tablecloths and the service was personalized and excellent. The waiter new details about the dishes and made recommendations. My husband ordered Guinea Fowl confit with chantrelles on a bed of baby greens with beet reduction. I had steak. Both were excellent. Loved it."
