  • "They seated us on time at a good table. The ambience is great and noise level moderate. The menu is adequate but not very expansive. The wine selection by the glass is very limited. We had steak, seafood, and pizza. All were very good. We ate on a Sunday evening and the place was full with a moderate wait. Our waiter was polite and professional but service was slow to get our drinks, food order, and deliver the appetizer and entrés. Overall, not bad. Maybe 5 stars with better service."

  • "Seemed like a good spot. Was told wait time was an hour. Made reservation thru OpenTable and was promptly served. Odd for a place that said wait time was an hour. Atmosphere was nice. Waiter was nice, but kind of inattentive. Perhaps because place was so busy. Also, I hate when orders of food comes out without any coordination. In other words, I ordered 2 appetizers: Chicken Wings and French Fries. Fries came out almost 10 minutes before the wings."

  • "Had been here a few years ago, and didn't find it all that good, anda bit pricey. We thought we would give it another go. My wife had the cheeseburger and I had the special pizza of the day. We both found them to be very good. We also tried a side of the jalapeño mashed potatoes on a recommendation. What a find these are. They are a must if you visit this place, as is the dessert. The pies are excellent! Still a bit pricey but if you go during happy hour, it's not bad. They have a great selection of beers on draft as well."

Food was bland, expected more from a Merriman restaurant and our server Renee could have had a better personality. Service with a smile will go a long ways!"

  • "Went there the last night of our week long vacation. We ate out every night and Monkeypod was at the bottom of our list. It's ok. Our noodle dish was good. I had the appetizer ahi tacos and the ahi was beautiful but the flavors with it were boring and detracted from the ahi instead of enhancing it. This was our waitresses favorite thing on the menu… Husband had the mahi mahi. Again, said it was good, not great."

I ordered the house special was fish, it was dry, well over cooked and very small, probably started out at 6 ounces but barely 3 oz after cooking. My only complaint about the restaurant is the loud music. They had love music and it was so loud we couldn't hear our waitress talk to us and conversation was difficult. My son ordered the seafood curry stew and loved it."

Got there too late to see the closing of the Ladies US Open Golf Tournament with Michelle Wie of Hawaii winning. The World Soccer tournament kept the lunch crowd tuned to the TV screens."

  • "Shay was our server and it was obvious she had three tables all sit at the same time. She did a great job though. She made sure to communicate and really I think that is all we really want. My husband ordered the Makawao Ave and I got a glass of prosecco. My husband got the Kiawe grilled ahi steak. It was perfectly cooked and very tasty. I ordered the meat special which was a pork dish. The pork was a tad over cooked for my taste but not terrible. The side was extremely good. It was like a au gratin potatoes but it wasn't. It was butternut squash. It was delicious. We got the chocolate cream pie. Overall a nice meal. If back in the area would stop by again if I ordered something besides the pork."

  • "Don't get us wrong, the food was very good as noted above, but not compared to the astronomical hype about this place. For a gastro-pub kind of experience, there were too many details left wanting. The hamburger paddy was significantly smaller than the bun, leaving plenty of bites of condiments and bun with no meat. The fresh fish and chips were remarkably ordinary. The "tempura-style" preparation lacked the characteristic fluffiness and crispness we were expecting. It was thin and lacked depth. The chips were the one bright spot on our table, as they retained their flavor and texture even as they cooled. Even the Kula broccoli, with its balsamic reduction, lacked flavor. It was apparently an off night in the kitchen."

  • "I was told by a local couple on my flight from Honolulu to Kahului that this place is terrific. They were not kidding. My friend and I went three nights into our visit to Maui. The food was delicious from starter to dessert. The menu has everything from burgers to fish specialties and steaks. The service was excellent and it even had a nice view of the sunset from outdoor seating. We liked it so much we went back again three nights later for our last meal on the island. Its in an obscure location in a small strip mall in Wailea but don't pass it up. By far the best food I had on Maui."

  • "We tried the happy hour, allegedly appetizers are 50% off, with a few exceptions. When you get there, they tell you all the fish ones are excluded. They can tell you this beforehand. The fish stew was incredible. Drinks good-the Mai tai insanely uses too much liquor. The banana cream pie was world class. Nice live music."

  • "Monkeypod accomodated our larger group's (8 of us) needs, even though we'd initially told them we were only 4. Their food was delightful, fresh, thoughtfully and creatively prepared, and excellent portions - drinks were imaginative and well prepared. OTOH our server did not appear to be particularly invested in our table but rather spent his time hanging out with other tables nearby. We were unable to get his attention easily and when we did have requests his behavior indicated that we were clearly not his favorite customers. Brusque, inefficient, and a little arrogant. Not professional. I'm going to give him a pass on the basis that he may have just been having a tough night. Just unprofessional. Next time I hope it will be better."
