Diner Reviews
  • "The fish and chips were just that, pieces of fish and some sad looking fries on a plate . Fish tacos were fresh and tasty but the size was more like an appetizer than a main . My daughter enjoyed the kids noodles and mine were tasty but the tofu was almost non existent. It was really busy and we were glad we had booked because there were loads of oeople waiting to be seated. Having read the menus and pricing we had expected more in presentation and execution ! The strawberry cream pie redeemed the evening however . We won't rush back during the rest of our trip. Shame, as has such potential."

  • "After a couple of expensive and subpar meals at Disney's Aulani one of the locals recommended Monkeypod. I had a perfectly cooked Ahi tuna with jalopeno pepper mashed potatoes and my wife had Hawaiian snapper dish which was excellent. Out preteen had Asian noodle bowl which she also enjoyed. Service was great. We will definitely be back. "

  • "We tried Monkey Pods when they initially opened since we live in the area. We were sadly disappointed. The menu choices were limited and unappetizing. However it has done a huge turn around; in fact I think they personally read my negative feedback and made changes. "

  • "Food and service was outstanding but for a sunny day at lunch with no air-conditioning or Ceiling fans where we were was very uncomfortable. The ambience at your Wailea Restaurant didn't have the same problem. We look forward in eating at your restaurant maybe in a different location than the last may be better. The first experience sitting in the back of the first floor was not a problem with the heat."

  • "We had party of 8. Most of party felt food was fair; but 2 of us had fish taco. Fish was dry & taco had little taste. Service was slow & we had to ask for water refills. No air conditioning so was warm. "

  • "Monkey Pod was a welcome respite from the dining options across the road at Aulani where we were staying. We ate here twice and both meals were very good, service was great, and we probably would have come back if we were still there on vacation. It was nice to get fresh food, nicely presented, and at a reasonable price. Our kids enjoyed their meals as well, and the live music on the patio was a great addition. If you are in the Ko Olina area you will want to eat here at least once to get away from the hotel food, which is overpriced and not nearly as good. Thank you Monkey Pod!"

  • "Little pricey but worth it for the unique menu items, cool ambiance and live entertainment. We couldn't get enough of the Garlic Truffle Oil Fries, Pulled Pork Sandwich was tasty, moist, and tender. Asian Pear and Arugula Pizza is a great choice for a light and healthy addition following the fries. The Strawberry Greek Yogurt Smoothie, and freshly pressed coffee and a cup of ice for a lovely iced coffee on a hot day was a perfect way to round out our lunch. Gotta thank our waitress for accommodating my order of iced coffee which was not part of their menu...but she made it work. Only negative is some of the inside seating was too close together."

  • "The Kale salad is a favorite. Patio seating is wonderful--nice music, more mellow than bustling, noisy inside seating. Loved the food! Our waiter was well informed about food, drinks and was very personable."

  • "I don't know if the Kuhio Day holiday brought in an overwhelming crowd, but it was very packed at Monkeypod & we were seated outside in a section that was NOT covered by the patio umbrella & it was raining on some of our diners. We had to move our tables & chairs into a sheltered area. Our server was absent most of the time. No refills on drinks & there were times where we just couldn't find her. I did like the food, but it was my cousin's first experience there & he would never return there because of the service. He refused to consider dessert there because the service was so bad. Of course the server couldn't have cared less."

  • "Great local place nearby to big beach resorts without the big prices. Still not inexpensive, but the food quality and choice is worth it. All local ingredients, great atmosphere. Macadamia nut-crusted mahi mahi is THE best! I had it twice and it was spectacular. Kona coffee rubbed filet was tender; fish & chips tasty. Homemade coconut cream pie was delicious. Try the Pod Thai cocktail; loved the glass and I preferred it over the "house" mai tai (which was also very good). Choose indoors (upstairs is best!) if the trade winds are blowing too hard. They could use heating lamps on the lanai seating during the spring evenings! Live entertainment is a plus and it is piped through the restaurant so it can be enjoyed by all. Enjoy!"

  • "I took my wife here on an impromptu date night. The only seats to be had were at the bar. The bartender was personable and served us as good as any waiter I've had. The food and service was so good we decided to book reservations for our 12 year annv. When we came back they gave us the table with the best view in the house and went out of thier way to make our special night romantic. The waiter was knowledgable and went out of his way asking us what we liked before he made suggestions on what he thought we would enjoy. His suggestions were spot on and our food was outstanding! As we left we were congratulated on our annv. by at least 3 of the staff. Great team, fantastic food, we've made this our spot from now on!"

  • "My family and I would call ourselves bug fans of Monkey Pod Kitchen. The food was amazing as always! I do have to say the service has fallen off the past few times we have gone. The food makes up for it though."

  • "Stayed at the Aulani hotel for the kids, the food there was disappointing. At least there was monkey pod close by to enjoy a healthy and delicious meal for my family. Worthwhile"

  • "One of the best meals that we had in Hawaii. Great service and may have been some of the best fish I've ever eaten. Cream pie was wonderful. Great service and live music on the patio in the evening"

  • "A group of teachers needed a special place to unwind and Monkeypod proved to be the PERFECT solution. With the delicious menu selection and exotic specialty drinks it was a magical moment that lasted longer than we had planned...MAHALO for the awesome service!!!"

  • "Menu varied and reasonable prices. Fish was delicious. Amplifiers for the singers WAY too loud...they were outside on the first floor patio, we were inside on the second floor and couldn't hear over them, would recommend for snacks and light meals."

  • "We went to dinner here and all of our group got different items to share. Everything was fantastic. The steak was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. Also, the roasted brussel sprouts were delicious. I would also recommend getting the seafood trio sampler. Yummy.... Also, make a reservation if you can."

  • "There are few dining options in Ko Olina. Given that, Monkeypod Kitchen is an OK choice locally - lots of open air seating, prompt service, good fish dishes. But otherwise a rather typical American restaurant."

  • "Monkey Pod has opened since our last visit to the JW Marriott, and it's a great addition to the near-by commercial district. Food is expensive, but great atmosphere. We had a very friendly server who was good with both the kids and adults. Enjoyed the outdoor seating and live music. The fish special was fantastic! Broccoli tasty but arrived cold. Fish tacos a solid B plus. Pizza looked good but did not try. Homemade ginger beer was great. Fun friendly atmosphere and we thought the food was better than Roy's."

  • "Went here because we've been hearing about it and wanted to try. And we loved it, just absolutely loved it. We got our outside table so we could see the entertainment and not hear the restaurant noise. Service was great and fast, someone was always around when we needed and not needed anything. And the food, oh my oh my! The fish was so fresh and tasty! We loved the jalapeño mash potatoes and the sweet potatoe as well. Everything just was perfect for our date night."

  • "Our server Reed was excellent, tended to our every need, very knowledgable about the menu+. First time for the kids and they loved it. They are very picky eaters and loved everthing we ordered. Pumpkin ravioli x2, spicy shrimp x2, fish tacos, hamakua mushroom pizza...all delish! Drinks are great, they are not shy on the alcohol. (I give my guests a Premier Rewards Card that gives them a Free Pie, when they return I hear nothing but praises!) Oh, Yes the Pies...Yummalishes!"

  • "Really had a good time, sat on the balcony upstairs, lively, breezy, really lovely spot. Food was tasty and we all liked our food. Don't be in a hurry, have a drink, sit back and relax. The wait staff is nice, if a bit slow, so don't be in a hurry. The atmosphere is really conducive to talking, laughing and having a wonderful evening. Highly recommend going in the evening when they light the tiki torches and have live music, very pleasant."

  • "Even though a few items that were on the menu were out the waitress was more than happy to substitute and was extremely sorry that they didn't have items. We went with out of town guests and as usual this was a perfect spot for their last dinner in Hawaii. Great service and good food we will definitely be back!"

  • "Monkeypod is a sure bet whenever on the islands- great wine list, fun and casual atmosphere good for groups and families. Small but inviting menu is a winner, love the eclectic pizzas but be sure to order them extra crispy or you may be served something pretty limp and flabby."

  • "Restaurant was packed, so we waited at the bar. Bartender made me a fabulous drink, but was so busy, forgot to bring my husband's drink. Then we couldn't get our bill when our table was ready. However, the manager instantly stepped in and corrected everything. From that point on, everything was perfect. Waiter was great, food was delicious, dessert was awesome - get the coconut cream pie!! Very involved manager checks all guests to be certain they are enjoying their dining experience, which we thoroughly did. This is a Merriman restaurant, and certainly fits the criteria - excellent!"

  • "Monkey Pod - they have a good design to the place, super friendly staff, and good food. I was there with my 11+13 yr old boys, but it looked like a decent date spot as well, better for a double date even."

  • "Absolutely love the solo singer - Justin (I believe). Sets the whole tone for dining. Line was super long so I'm really glad I made reservations ahead of time. Love, Love, Love the poke taco. Please keep that on the menu forever."

  • "Had friends here from Florida that we met here in Hawaii 10 years ago. They wanted to go somewhere new. We took them to Monkeypod. It was a hit! The food was great from the appetizers (pumpkin ravioli yummy!) to the dessert (strawberry pie is the best ever!) The atmosphere was lively so we felt comfortable to let loose and laugh! The drink menu was extensive and awesome with a lot of unique new drinks. We will be definitely recommend to others and come back again!"

  • "Food was excellent, server was very attentive. A little loud, but fine for family dining. I think there was a quieter section deeper into the restaurant - that's where I would want to be if I was there as a couple."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "We were sat by the kitchen door so the ambience only got 3 stars, and it was a bit too warm in that part of the restaurant. Probably because there was no air flow in that area and the tables were really close together. All of our food was really good, but the chicken wings were just ok and a bit disappointing. Our server was friendly, and overall we loved this restaurant and will be back!!"

  • "i loved my dish which was the macadamia nut crusted fish. my friend was not too impressed with the Reuben sandwich-said it was ok. the gelato was generous with 3 scoops and very ono. we were able to share the dessert as we were pretty full. i have only had lunch at this restaurant...have not tried it for dinner but perhaps one day when i have a boyfriend. i will definitely come back in the future... aloha, florence"
