Diner Reviews
  • "Took my wife to celebrate our anniversary, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Cocktails are pricy but so worth it (the no ka oi truly is and the blueberry mojito is tasty as well) and the pumpkin ravioli are a must. Ambiance was cozy while still maintaining the indoor/outdoor feel; live music was pleasant, yet didn't interfere with the ability to converse. We just had drinks, the ravioli, and soft tacos (the fish tacos and the bulgogi pork tacos). Service was excellent and the price was reasonable. We've been here before and enjoyed more substantial fare, but it's a testament to the restaurant's quality that you can order anything off the menu and know that it will be delicious regardless. Will definitely come again!"

  • "Our server was hilarious, incredibly knowledgeable regarding the menu and clearly loves what he does. I had the red snapper and all of the flavors accompanying the dish were perfect. My husband had the fish tacos and by the sound of his delight, they were VERY WELL worth the price. Might have been the best he'd ever had. They accommodated our two boys very well even when they fell asleep in the booth. It was a late dinner. This was a great dining experience and I can't wait to go back."

  • "Good casual fair alternative to hotel food in Ko'Olina area. Visited twice during week's stay and food was consistent. Overall food was okay but definitely different from that offered in Merrimen's Restaurant in the Big Island...which I loved."

  • "We came with our family for an 8pm dinner while staying at Disney's Aulani across the street. The food was good, although the children's offerings were limited. The crowd was predominantly singles, and our daughters got an education we had not expected on the mating habits of humans. I would caution parents with children not to venture over once the singles scene starts. The selection was pretty good, and we all enjoyed our food."

  • "Went as a party of four for Sunday Brunch. Seated quickly, very attentive service staff. Had the Poke Tacos and fresh baked cinnamon buns as appetizers. The cinnamon buns, still warm, are sinfully good. Loco Moco was done to perfection, as were the other entrees in our party, which included the fritata, Pete's Benedict, and breakfast burrito. Great live music outside with a strong Hawaiian vibe, at perfect volumes for enjoyment without having your conversation interrupted. Never felt rushed in the least, yet we were never left wanting for anything. Highest recommendation."

  • "This restaurant is one of my favorites. The food is excellent - I always get the fish special of the day. The original cocktails are great. LOVE the Makawao Avenue cocktail!!! Seating is undercover but with an outdoor feel. Dress light because no air-conditioning. Service is very friendly but slow. If you like a long laid back dining experience, it is great. But if you're hungry and want to get in and out - not so much. Parking can be a challenge. Car pool if you can. I'm not a fan of the dessert list - very limited, only cream pies. Some of my friends rave about the pies though, so if that is your thing - great."

  • "Great fun at Monkey Pod, lots of good food choices for the whole family and fun lively ambiance! Server was knowledgable and friendly, food came out quickly. Only downside was parking - assume you won't be able to park and walk or shuttle from your hotel."

  • "Interesting offerings--great pumpkin ravioli and truffle fries. Booths are kind of uncomfortable for bigger groups."

  • "food, price, portions pretty darn good. Server was lazy and made four notable errors in our order, including delivery food we did not order, not filling water glasses, though prompted to do so several times, and charging for items not ordered."

  • "We have been at Aulani for almost a week and have eaten at Monkey Pod every night except for the night we went to a luau. That should speak volumes in itself! If that's not enough to get you to go, they have lovely live acoustic guitarist(s) play every night if you dine outside, the food is fit for foodies and caters to families as well. It's right across the street from Aulani and JW Marriott, so a very short walk. Appetizers to order...wings, pumpkin ravioli to the Raw Bar which consisted of delicious, tuna and ceviche. Yum! It was my 6 year old ' s favorite! Also, the tuna crunchy tacos are FAB! Entrees to order... Ahi Tuna, Steak, Lobster and Burgers. Please make a reservation as it's popular place for good reason!"

  • "This is probably one of the better restaurants in the area. However, it has an odd disjoint list of menu items. A little of asian with a little of fish and so on. Not much chicken recipes at all. Lots of pizza options, but if you are are looking for non-pizza, limited options. A little pricey but is consistent with the other restaurants in the area for that level of service and food quality. I would go again if staying at Aulani, but only once because of the cost and the limited non-pizza choices."

  • "Server had a wonderful personality. He was very accommodating and made excellent suggestions. Restaurant is too darn hot. I had the sun blasting me and there was no AC. I started sweating when I started eating the hot food. P.S. I'm not a lardo either. I workout. (Make sure you sing that last part). Food is ok. Not worth the price of $19 for a tiny pizza."

  • "I love Pod Thai cocktail. WASABI mashed potato was good with Grilled tuna. Vegs are always good here. My daughter loves Saimin, but small bawl and forks is not available sometime. I strongly recomend Chocolate cream pie if you love whiped cream!"

  • "Our dining experience on the patio was delightful...the selection of cocktails and wines were good. the fish sandwich I had was so fresh, moist, and perfectly cooked! The fish tacos were also tasty, and the fruit cream pies are also delicious! We look forward to going back soon..."

  • " We were a party of 6 staying at the Disney Aulani across the street. We had heard this place was great. We loved the food and service so much that we went back a second time! We had very friendly efficient service both times by Tony and Leslie. The menu had a wide selection for everyone. 2 nights with 6 of us we pretty much tried everything from steak, seafood, pizza etc. We started with 2 different kinds of salads which were both great. Everyone's meals were prepared perfectly. Make sure you leave room for pie. Banana cream, macadamia nut, and salted caramel were all fabulous we almost had to order more. There was live music also making it a great atmosphere. Definitely would recommend this place."

  • "Three of my favorite things. We had a wonderful dinner for seven that included the kids all of whom were between 6-8. The grassy area was great for the kids to play in while food was coming. Flavors were outstanding."

  • "We loved Monkey Pod, ate here twice during our stay at Aulani. Prices were reasonable and consistent with dining in Hawaii. The pork bulgogi tacos and garlic truffle fries were amazing, we ordered them both times. The seitan noodles on the kid's menu was a welcome break from the chicken finger and hot dog offerings elsewhere (however the pizza on the kid's menu was a huge bust). The upstairs dining room was warm as the relied on the open windows/doors for cooling the place. The outside patio was much better for my comfort. Great place, would return if we are lucky enough the be back in Ko'Olina."

  • "This is my favorite place to go for happy hour on the west side. The food is amazing and at such good prices. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and the live music was great! I suggest sitting outside if you're given the option cause it can get way too hot inside."

  • "Monkeypod is tucked into a retails center that doesn't look that promising for a great meal, but what a surprise we had! I've worked in restaurants for over 25 years and recognize the chef-driven care that is so often lacking. I had the Seared Ahi - cooked to perfection, so tender you can cut it easily with your fork. Well seasoned and balanced between just-right-spicy jalapeno mashed potatoes, carmelized Maui onions and a secret sauce that pulled everything together beautifully. Every bite I took came with a sight of joy and a mumbled "this is SO good!" My husband had the macadamia crusted mahi-mahi and after one small bite for me, did not share another morsel. So crisp and nutty on the outside and flaky, buttery soft on the inside."

  • "Our sandwiches/burgers were a bit on the salty side. The Reuben bread became hard fairly quick. The appetizers on the other hand, we fantastic. The pumpkin stuff ravioli was great along with the spicy shrimp with the salsa. The jalapeño poppers could use some work."

  • "I had been to the Peter Merriman restaurants on the Big Island and Maui and decided to try this one even though it required a 30 minute drive. My sister's vegan Portugese bean soup tasted like chili and she did not like it. The server took it off the receipt without any prompting from us. We did like the Margherita pizza. My brother had the saimin and it came with toppings like it was pho (beansprouts, cilantro, Kalua pork). He liked the saimin."

  • "We really enjoy the food at Monkey Pod. Unlike our previous times having dinner there (3 other times at this location), the service was horrible. Our waitress got orders all wrong and forgot to get us items we ordered. We ordered dessert to take home and when we got home we noticed it was the wrong flavor. We ordered coffee at the end of the meal and the waitress totally forgot to bring it. This was our first time on the second floor and it was very loud. I believe it might be the kid friendly part of the restaurant, but the music was super load and you could barely hear the people at the table. Would much rather be on the first level or outside."

  • "Our family was 4 adults and 2 children. We had steak and kids had pizza. Everything was super. Good selection of beer. It was perfect meal for us. We even got a pizza to go. If I get back to Ko-Olina I will definitely return."

  • "Monkeypod opening up in Ko'Olina area across from the resorts is a nice addition to the once SPARSE area limited to Roy's and resort only food. Our server was very friendly, just attentive enough to get us what we needed and didn't hover or hurry us even though there seemed to be a wait. The live band outside was fairly good (Sunday Brunch) and very relaxing to dine with their mellow music. Food was little better than average and a NICE change from skimpy, pricey resort restaurants and pool bars."

  • "My wife 3 boys and I stayed at the Aulani and enjoyed walking across the street to the Monkeypod. Beer list is great and the food was very good. Prices were very reasonable. Best seating is closer to open window area since the back of the restaurant may get a little warm."

  • "Upon arriving, inquired about Happy Hour drink/food specials. Time was 945p (on cell phone-updated through cell towers), however, on "their" system it apparently was before 930p when order was placed. Drink and food specials were not honored. Then when asked why it was regular price, I was told that next time that I should check to see that it is 930 pm on their system. Really??? When the worker punched it in should he not have had the courtesy to say something, or at least wait until 930pm since we inquired about happy hour at 945p. I mean how slow is the time on their system? However, customer service was not totally bad. The manager honored the prices in the end. Next time I will be checking to make sure what time it is on their system."

  • "What we liked best about the restaurant was its unique menu items from appetizers to desserts and the creative bar drinks. It's a great place for get togethers for those with families as its surrounded by kid-friendly hotels such as the Aulani Resort and Ko'Olina Marriott."

  • "We ate here several times on our recent trip to Ko'Olina. Everything we tried from the Big Island Cheeseburger to the Loco Moco at brunch was excellent! We had one inattentive waitress but the rest of the waitstaff were great. We did not find the food any more expensive than other restaurants nearby. Definitely make a reservation and walk to this location if possible as parking is extremely limited,"
