Diner Reviews
  • "Our waiter was one of the worst we have had in a long time. He forgot my drink (I just let it go) but then he did not ask my husband for another drink until it was time to go. Even then, he was late for bringing the drink and blamed other servers. I think he forgot to put in the order like he did with my drink. On the other hand, the music and food made up for it."

  • "We've eaten here multiple times. The food is great! The prices are high. I would like to recommend that they provide a basket of bread or something similar in the beginning. We ordered an appetizer on this visit, however the appetizer came out right along side with our entrees!! Very disappointing! The waiter took the hummus appetizer off the table and off the bill as we requested. Our waiter, Reed did not come around often. Water glass was empty twice. I saw other wait staff pass our table multiple times with water pitchers, but never stop to fill our empty glasses. We were celebrating my husbands birthday that night. We ordered the chocolate pie; not complimentary!! Food is good, atmosphere is great, it's expensive!"

  • "this restaurant was supposed to be no#1 as tripadvisor suggested but personally, i did not think it lived up to its reputation as far as taste of food, presentation and service. Its a good place to hang out but I would not highly recommend it to friends :("

  • "I enjoyed the Hummus entrée. I wish that there were more healthy choices. We did enjoy the food, service, & entertainment."

  • "There's no air conditioning inside so it's worth the wait for an outside table. The service isn't great. We were there twice and the first time the waiter forgot to bring our appetizers and the second time we waited 1/2 hour for the check."

  • "I wish it was a little cooler. It was quit muggy and stuffy. Maybe of there were a lil more fan it would have been a lil more comfortable. Nobody wants to eat in an uncomfortable atmosphere. Other then that everything was good."

  • "I was very pleased with our food and service. Mark was very attentive, just great and we enjoyed the music. We went for Happy Hour. Would def go back again."

  • "We waited over 45 minutes for simple items like a wood fired pizza and a burger. Once we got the food, it was apparent the the food had been under the heater for awhile. Under our open table reservation request, we asked for a nice table with a view of the music. We got the opposite. We got shoved upstairs about as far from the outside music as you could get. I brought it up twice and simply got a shrug. I've been to this restaurant at least a half dozen times and while it's never been excellent, I've have always had a better experience than this latest time. I will not be going back for quite awhile, if ever. I can get better food, service and a view at a number of local places for half the price. Not impressed..."

  • "I was very disappointed with the food and portions. Each of our meals was $39.99-59.99. French fries was extra a burger does not come with fries. $19.99 gives you 3 small fish tacos."

  • "The Ahi entree was as about as good as it gets. The apps (wings, truffle fries and ravioli) were good but only the ravioli was great. It's open air, which is typically fine...but it's very loud. We had to shout to hear each other - which we weren't prepared for. Other than that, great experience."

  • "Went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The wait was no problem, we had reservations but was given a buzzer to call us when our table was ready. In about a minute the buzzer went off and we were seated on the second floor. The blueberry mojito and mai tai we had were well made and contained a good amount of alcohol. The appetizers were well portioned and can definitely serve as a meal. The dinner was excellent, the broiled ahi was perfectly cooked (medium rare with more rare than medium) and perfectly seasoned. The new york strip steak was also done perfectly. The service was top notch, our server was very attentive and personable."

  • "Best Fish and chips ever. Kimchi is out of sight! Burger very good. Though we made a reservation we had to wait 30 minutes to get a table, unless we wanted to sit outside in the direct sun (at lunch time you don't want to do this!). Overall, the food is terrific, but pretty pricey. Service is so so."

  • "We really enjoyed Monkeypod. The food was amazing! I ordered the Mahi Mahi with macadamia nut crust. Best I ever tasted. We also had the truffle fries and wood grilled wings both were very good. I would defintely recommend. If we come back to Hawaii we would return for dinner."

  • "We live on the other side of Oahu & were staying a couple of days at Ihilani. We enjoyed our dinner very much. My husband had all of his favorites in the raw bar. I had the steak special with the most delicious bacon mashed potatoes. And our server Mark was terrific. We will definitely be back!"

  • "A "must-go" dining experience if you are epicurious! The lobster curry stew is in another stratosphere...Mai Tais are not your ordinary beverage...try it, you won't be disappointed! My only regret is that we can't dine there every night of our vacation....or maybe we can?!?!"

  • "The food is really fresh and tastes great! My husband ordered the fish and chips - which were really good- however , the portions were small for the price. I had the pumpkin ravioli. It was very yummy but had way too much butter on it. My kids had the King Kong burger (normal adult size ) and the cheese pizza ( could feed two kids easily !!) our bill for 2 adults 2 kids - no appetizers but we did order two beers - the kids had water- was about $70. That was the most expensive bill we've had so far on the island. But it was worth the one time visit!"

  • "I went to the Monkey pod on Maui and really enjoyed it. The one at Koolina is nice but has no AC, and they have a very small bathroom on the first floor with only 2 stalls and 1 of the stalls were broken. The upstairs was closed. It was a very hot day so I do not recommend anyone going here if they do not like the heat. Also it is very open and they have flies flying around our food. The food was good thou. I had the turkey burger with the garlic truffle fries. The desserts are delish I would try the strawberry cream pie it is really yummy. I prefer the restaurant on Maui."

  • " Wait service started out attentive and timely but long wait to place our dessert order. Two people at our table ordered coffee, the other two ordered sorbet and gelato. Coffee arrived but the sorbet and gelato took inordinately long. Fish and chips:great, batter on fish was light and crispy. The fish sandwich:very tasty, yummy coleslaw!"

  • "Monkeypod has a very wide range of beers on tap and food. From fish tacos to pizza to burgers to steak and then some!! Highly recommend to everyone to try if in the area. We have been there a handful of times and have never been let down. I do recommend making a reservation as the wait can be long. You can usually make one a day before or the day of."

  • "My friends and I were there to celebrate a birthday and it was perfect! We went for happy hour which allowed us to try a little bit of everything. Our waitress was very knowledgeable on the menu and drinks and was very attentive to our group. My favorite things were the pumpkin ravioli, watermelon that pizza (the special of the day) and the garlic truffle fries. Their other foods were good too but those 3 things were amazing! The only complaint we had was it was pretty hot inside. Next time we'll have to try sitting outside and hopefully a breeze could keep us cool."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the dining experience. The outdoor seating is the way to go, especially with the nice Hawaiian breeze. All four food choices (shrimp appetizer, arugula salad, butternut squash flatbread, and brussel sprouts) were excellent. Okay wine selection (a few nice ones to choose from) but nice drink selection. Our server, Audrey, made it a fun evening. The live music on the patio was a nice touch."

  • "Being a local who lives in town. Never thought of heading out to Koolina on a weekday. Well, since ive heard good reviews id thought of indulging. To my surprise, it was well worth the trip. Kiawe grilled ahi with green mash potatoes was delicious, spicy seared shrimp was very tasty along with the cornbread. You have to get the Poke taco and Bulgogi pork tacos. Staff is very friendly and service was great!!!"

  • "The good: made a reservation and were seated right away. The Saimen was quite good. Staff seemed friendly. The not so good: Price. I do realize that everything is more expensive here but $12.50 for a mai tai was too much for what it was. We also had the fish & chips but there were only 3 small pieces and the fries were small. Oh and it was $22 which also seemed a bit much for what it was. In addition we thought the place was a bit too loud, and a bit too dark."

  • "On our first night in town, we saw a long wait line. On our second day we ran I to an employee at an Apple store who highly recommended Monkeypod when he found out where we were staying. Another fellow vacationer raved about her family's dining experience. Our meal was excellent and getting a reservation thru OpenTable could not have been easier!!"

  • "Hands down this is my new favorite place to eat. No A/C but honestly it isn't necessary. You're next to the ocean & the atmosphere there is so relaxing. We had amazing service from Joshua. Will definitely be back there again soon."

  • "If you want a restaurant with the Hawaiian flavor and vacation experience you have to eat at the Monkeypod. Local Style live music, beautiful green landscape, outstanding service and savory food it's an overall excellent Dineing experience. We drove 1/2 hour from Eastside Oahu and was worth the drive. I celebrated my birthday and was treated to homemade Lilikoi pie, "Broke da mouth!" We had pull apart pork, turkey burgers and plantation ice teas and I can't wait to come back and try something else. We had a great time! Thank you"

  • "I think the employees make the experience good or bad. And this was bad. Although we had reservation we waited about 15 minutes. Went to bar and bartender was rude. Had requested outdoor seating in our reservation and although there were open tables they sat us inside saying it was too busy. But then they sat ither people out there. Food was ok although Pizza was cold. It took forever to get service and waitress was obviously not into it."

  • "From the time we arrived to the end of our meal, the staff was friendly, attentive and most helpful. The food was very very good. We ordered the pupus: Garlic Truffle Fries, Pumpkinpatch Ravioli, Shrimp and Hamakua Mushroom pizza. Pizza was so delectable that we ordered another one! Definitely will be back."

  • "Food was very bland, purchased a $20 poke tacos and were tasteless, have had these at other restaurants and loved them but the ones at monkey pod were nothing to be remembered. Fish sandwhich was also tasteless. We saw out server complain behind other guests backs so who knows what she was saying about us. The restaurant is very Nicley decorated and the front desk girl was very nice. Won't be coming back here on our next visit."
