Loved everything about it. The chef is amazing. Food was innovative and super delicious. True fusion. A superb mix of flavors. I love that the chef comes up with different dishes daily. And service was superb. Part of the great experience is having the chef bring the food out and explain what the dish was. Fine dining at it best .

The concept: take local fare found fresh that day, design a multi-course menu, and deliver it. The customer gets no say in the matter. Some picky folks won't like this; I found ceding control to excellent chefs a wonderful experience. The food was spectacular, well-chosen and with good wine pairings. The staff was friendly, professional and capable. One of the best overall experiences of my dining life. Bravo!

My wife and I went to Monk Kitchen for dinner to celebrate her birthday. We were excellently hosted in the kitchen at the chef's table by Mark, Tony and Emma. The food was superb, the wine pairings were perfect - we could not have asked for a better evening! We look forward to returning for dinner with friends.

I stumbled upon Monk Kitchen through OpenTable. I was quite intrigued that they had no set menu and began to read more about the restaurant. The more I read, the more excited I got. We were not disappointed. We were seated at the Chef's table (as we had requested - THANK YOU) and from the onset had an amazing experience. The dining atmosphere was very laid back and watching the chefs work led to us speculating on what our food was going to be - we were never able to guess! We chose to do the wine pairings with our meals (a definite recommend). Some definite standouts from our meal: the pasta course, the fried fish/chicken course (picnic inspired) and the lamb (I ate all of my lamb and have never really cared for lamb!). Overall: amazing.

It would be hard to express on how many levels this place is fantastic. It needs to be experienced to be understood. The staff were attentive, engaging, and really cared. The chefs were, well, spectacular. Pure food. Intelligent combinations. Wonderful. Go with an open mind to new tastes and ideas. The chef makes whatever is available and cooks on a whim. Nothing pre-set.

Monk Kitchen has no menu. Get over it. It's an intimate experience dining with the chefs. They are masterful, communicative and warm: you could not have better hosts. And their approach to food is on the simple side: you're more likely to get the best rack of lamb you've ever tasted prepared simply with a vegetable puree and a creative pasta accompaniment than you are to get something wildly exotic. I see that as a positive. I really appreciate a restaurant where they are constantly sending people to buy ingredients: these folks always get the freshest they can.

We had the most intimate, interesting and relaxed upscale dinner we have ever enjoyed. We were fortunate enough to have the kitchen table all to ourselves for a fabulous dinner last Sunday evening. Monk Kitchen is not only about great good, it is about a unique ddining experience liek no otehr. You can watch yoru dish be prepared from inception to plating, chat with teh chef (we had Anthony all to ourselves on Sunday and he was amazing) and enjoy. We foudn the dishes to be well thought out, marrying various textures and layers of flavor's to result in a tantalizingly mouth and stiomach pleasing experience.

After many rave reviews, we decide to pay a visit on Good Friday. Maybe due to the timing it was eerily quiet. We were the only patrons until the very end when another couple showed up and so got the attention of the whole staff. Chef walked through each tasting menu dish. We took the opportunity to ask interesting questions, learned a few things and find the whole experience engaging. The steak is a bit overcooked, but otherwise it is a unique experience.

Dinner started great and went downhill. Poor/no wine selection. Two unknown reds. Flank steak was flank steak. Kitchen seating interesting but not to be revisited. Three staff struggled to manage 10 guests. Waitress is in the wrong line of work. Was not value for the $300 bill. Former reviewers must not go out a lot.

The very idea to allow guests for dinner into the compact kitchen of a lovely downtown boutique hotel to have a superb dining experience in a totally relaxed atmosphere is pioneering for Toronto. Everybody is lovely, welcoming, funny, outrageous and .... A reason to return as soon as possible. A lovely dining experience indeed, and we were very grateful for being looked after and entertained so well.

We had the 7 course tasting menu and wine pairings served in the kitchen. The food was phenomenal and the wines were divine. We enjoyed chatting with chef Roberto and with our servers very much, they were so accommodating to our interests and they made it an unforgettable evening. It is very pricey at over $200/person, but it's worth it for a one of a kind, memorable experience.

This place is amazing! We were at the chef's table and it was fun interacting with the chefs as we ate out meals. They couldn't have been any nicer and came to the table with each course to explain and discuss what was being served. Not only were they friendly and casual but the food exceeded or expectations. We chose the wine pairing which didn't suit everyone's palate but you can't always satisfy the entire group if ther are six different opinions. I would go back again if I was looking for a memorable evening.

Hi this was a very special occasion and we dressed up, however the server was dressed like she should be working in a bar. Cords and a long sleeve t-shirt. She didn't remove my empty wine glasses and once the chef told her to, so our pictures have empty glasses in front of us. The food came to quickly and the stereo was playing rap,

Eating in a restaurant kitchen is a unique experience every foodie should try. (The kitchen is casual so don't dress up too much if eating there, the restaurant is small intimate and beautifully designed if you want to dress up.) The staff are pros who are seriously passionate about food. Definitely recommend if you want to try something new but be ready that your bill will come in around $200/head.

The hotel entrance was innocuous; the main lobby, front desk and lobby bar were starkly minimalist; the elevator opens right into the kitchen - the tables were industrial kitchen counter and the 'stools' were not great for a 3 hour meal. HMMM --- Very interesting! The chefs, sommelier and server were gracious and made us feel most welcome. The 7 course chefs' table tasting menu and wine pairings were excellent although I wished for and requested (but never got) a listing of our courses with wine that was paired. It would have been nice to track our progress - I couldn't actually describe any dish now ... They all ran together. All up - an interesting one-time experience.

The no menus/chefs intro was a neat concept and we enjoyed the interactions with the Chef. Food was generally very good with some really good courses but a few misses. The pasta and fish were both fantastic. The fried chicken was a clear miss, with bland flavour and tough consistency (how do you make chicken thigh tough?) and the entree-sized flat-iron steak an odd choice at the end of a 7 course tasting menu. I'm always skeptical of the "boutique hotel vibe", but the restaurant was nicely done. It was a Tuesday so there were only two couples in that night. More guests likely would have improved the ambience. The Chef and the waitstaff were very personable and attentive.

Wanted a special lunch on New Year's eve day after an early movie at TIFF. Couldn't find anything open in the Entertainment District and finally found this on Open Table. They actually had meant to be closed for lunch but hadn't closed off the lunch time slot. However, despite being the only people in the restaurant, they said they were happy to cook for us. We figured, why not and sat at one of the kitchen tables. Spent the next 2 hours thoroughly enjoying great food and conversation with the chef and sous-chef. The wonderful 4 course meal, including dessert, wine and coffee was $144. It's not often that you have a restaurant all to yourselves and we never felt the least bit awkward. A great way to spend a freezing cold day!

I'm glad that other reviewers noted the obscure location for this restaurant, because I never would have found it. We were greeted immediately upon entering the unmarked building and escorted to the bar to select our beverage and then down into the kitchen for dinner. To our surprise, we were the only reservation for the rest of the evening. Our menu for the evening included an amuse of "grilled cheese," "fish and chips" of beet cured fish, orecchiette with bolognese, a beautiful fish and mushroom dish, duck with roasted root vegetables, and a generous assortment of mini desserts. Everything was elegantly presented and delicious. Our banter with the chef and hostess was friendly without being too much. I definitely will return.

The restaurant is in the basement of the Templar Hotel, where we were allowed to choose our seats. Options were in the kitchen on bar stools or in very modern community dining room. We chose the dining room setting, possibly a mistake. It would have been fun to sit in the kitchen and watch the food being prepared. The chef asked about likes and dislikes, explained everything would be prepared fresh for us, paired with the wine of their choosing, and we should relax and enjoy. Every course was fabulous, beautifully presented and delicious. Service excellent and all questions about ingredients, preparation and where grown were answered. We expected to have an excellent meal and this exceeded our expectations.

Monk Kitchen is a great find. The menu changes daily and you enjoy what the chef prepares, so it is pointless to describe the dishes we enjoyed because yours will be different. Each dish was wonderful alone and the entire meal flowed together well. We did not think the wine pairings matched the quality of the food. It is a little hard to find as the Templar Hotel, where Monk Kitchen is located, has no sign or street number; look for the stark white building on the North side of Adelaide just past #342.
