The food was very good and the ambiance fun and friendly. Interestingly, the salsa stole the show. I try to stay away from thevTexMex dishes at Monica's As there are just too many more interesting dishes to chose from. I had the pork chop frankly to see if any one could really do a pork chop that was actually good.Well Minica comes about as close as anyone. It was quite good.Overall a fun and a bit unique dining experience. Especially enjoyed visiting with Monica and learning more about herand her restaurant.

My tastebuds are still in heaven!!! From start to finish, Monica's was outstanding. Margarita was one of the best I've ever had, followed by 3 appetizers shared with friends... never made it to a main dish, and can't wait to go back to do so. Fun, fun, fun.

I dined with two friends. We all agreed that the food was just fair. Nothing stood out. We had lunch so we were in the lounge space and didn't think that it was especially suited for dining. The large window by the entrance admitted glaring light that was a bit distracting. The overall menu is confusing with sushi and Mexican fare. Sorry for this review because we were expecting more.

This was my second trip to Monica's. The first, on a Friday, was jam-packed with a long wait for a table. This time, on a Tuesday, it was much less busy. Our service was attentive, with great advice for our orders. The queso is delicious, with a nice little kick to it. The duck with pink mole is an intriguing and unexpected dish. The chicken mole was fantastic - an unconventional approach, absolutely delicious. Monica herself came by to check on us - we felt well taken care of and appreciated by the whole staff. (Tip: the house margaritas are a value at $3.50, but listen to your server and order one of the top shelf margaritas. We tried both, and the top shelf ones are worth it.)

Love the decor and the bars in different rooms. Patio has seating for smoking, non-smoking and pet friendly. Monica is always charming and keeping an eye on everything and everyone. Upon arrival for our reservation for 4 people, we were seated in the "lounge". The table must have been meant for 2 rather than 4, as it was very small and two people could not sit side by side comfortably. We moved into the main dining room which was more open, slightly larger tables and good spacing between tables. Guac was good, lasagna was good, chicken was good, lamb was gamy, fatty, too much sauce/juice and very little seasoning. Quatro leche cake very good.

The menu offers a great variety of traditional dishes and some unusual ones too! The salsa provided with the complimentary chips and salsa upon seating was wonderful. The service from the wait staff was excellent. The kitchen however was terribly slow. It took almost 30 minutes to receive our food.

The food is Mex, but not Tex Mex. Most items are well-prepared and flavorful. It is not outstanding, but is very good. Our service experience was excellent. The ambience is very attractive, and it is a good place to take visitors. During the early evening, the bar is active and energized. For warm evenings, the outside dining area is very nice.

Took a Dallas newcomer for dinner. He said he would go back. Recommendations: 1. Ask to be seated in the main dining room. For some reason, we were seated alone in the lounge area even though the restaurant wasn't full. 2. Skip the fancy cocktails and go with the house margarita. The avocado drink was particularly green. 3. Stick with the regular dishes. My dinner mates enjoyed the lasagna and chicken mole. I ordered the lamb breast, which was a bit too gristly and fatty. I guess there's a reason why some cuts of meat are underappreciated. The duck taquitos were outstanding, though.

Great food and good atmosphere. However, service staff was young and inexperienced and had too many tables per server to cover. Not recommended if you seek quiet or romantic dining.

Esmeralda provided EXCELLENT service, knew menu well, and answered questions, and made great recommendations. Very attentive service. Food was impeccable - queso, Mineras enchiladas, combo fajitas - all were wonderful. Monica of course greeted us and made us feel right at home. Will absolutely go back!!

As usual, Monica does not disappoint. This is a great place if you want to have fun and have a great meal. Great flavors, a bit short of salt, but meats cooked to perfection and very flavorful ( the salt issue is easily fixed) Great service. I want to come back to eat the filete a la talla, which is a regional specialty in Mexico, her menu and offerings seem to be well thought out. Monica is so attentive to detail, she comes to your table to welcome you and to make sure all is great, I love that. I wish she had been able to keep her other restaurant open, Ciudad, it was gorgeous, but Nueva Cocina is fantastic too

It's new so they are working out the kinks. The sushi was great as was the Mexican lasagna which is a Monica signature dish. One diner reported the chili con carne enchiladas to be under flavored. I think in a month this will be a refined place. It's worth checking out

Here's the thing. We were seated outside at Monica's for about 15 minutes when we realize no one had even acknowledged our existence. So we got up to leave to find another restaurant. The owner saw us and stopped us on our way out. Monica said dinner is on me. She apologized immensely for what happened and bought our dinner. She showed a great example of what a business owner should be and how to treat their customers. Needless to say after we sat down we were not ignored again and received many apologies from the manager. I am really glad we stayed because the food was amazing.

Great food. They've just opened, so service was not the greatest. Although Monica was there to personally greet, and help make everyone's experience be as good as possible. Entrees arrived long before the appetizer. Bar drinks were cleared without anyone asking about refills. Silly little mistakes that will be worked out in time. It was definitely good food. It definitely has great potential. I will definitely go back...with great expectations! For having just opened... Monica's is wonderful!

We love Monica!!! Her vibrant food and service are hallmarks....but this place isn't quite there yet. Fabulously decorated and appointed, the interior bespeaks a place you want to BE. But the communication issues between the kitchen and servers...the perhaps overworked ... and the food fell short. We will definitely return because we believe this will become the destination we all believe she can pull off.

What I thought was going to be a great alternative to the gayberhood turned out to be a major disappointment. While the location is awesome and it would seem to balance out the flip side "Dish" I was very excited to go, since is has been over 10 years that I have been to the location in Deep Ellum. I made our reservation for a Friday evening. We got there and immediately seated, we were waited on promptly but when the food arrived, I was taken at how unappetizing my friends dish looked. It reminded me of leftover nachos from the night before. My food on the other hand looked ok but once I tasted it, it was so bland. So we are rating this location "Marginal at best"
