We always enjoy Mon Ami Gabi, but last few visits have been seated at a table in aisle placement in very tight quarters. It was at least 15 minutes before drink orders were taken even though bread and water arrived immediately. Our server apparently had too many tables we rarely saw him. Ordered wine and received incorrect label. Noise level was unbearable... Impossible to hear table companions. Will say it was raining and outside service unavailable, so very crowded inside. Food super as always. Recommend eating outside if possible! Wish they could do something about the noise level.

For a bistro, the menu was extensive. The nightly special Beef Wellington melted in your mouth. The bread with the carrot starter was unique. The only draw back was the noise level. It was busy and pretty loud. The food and service was excellent.

We've dined at Mon Ami Gabi 4 times. This is the first time we cannot honestly give a top-notch review. While the steak bordelaise and the salmon were really good, the service and dessert were not. The servers only came to our table to take our orders, refill our water and deliver our food. We felt ignored for most of the time we sat there waiting a very long time to get our food and an even longer time to get dessert. Not once did anyone come over to ask how we were enjoying our meal or if we needed anything else. Usually, the wait staff clears the bread crumbs off the table before dessert is served. Not this time. Also, the profiteroles usually come as 4 small pastries. This time, it looked like a 4 scoop Big Mac. Not a good presentation.

I'll confess, I'm a regular at Mon Ami Gabi. Why? Well, I consistently enjoy great service and delicious food! Normally, I'm happy with escargot, a salad, and Vouvray, and I try the specials from time to time. Unfortunately, I hadn't seemed to make it there on a Wednesday for the Plat du Jour, which is braised beef short ribs...until this week. Dear lord is that good...and while the portion isn't super sized by any means, I could have eaten half of it and been fine. No. That meal was so delicious that I ate it all! I was so full, I could have rolled home, but I was one happy patron. Go on Wednesday and order the ribs...trust me.

Bread was good, but I had to eat it with my hands since it was served whole. We ordered the onion soup: cheesey, salty, bread-laden and good. I wasn't thrilled with the Brie appetizer. It was a chunk of warm brie, with rubbery "croutons," honey strewn everywhere, and burn whole hazelnuts. I just wasn't sure how to eat it; I ended up having to use my hands to assemble bites together. I ordered the steak frites (peppercorn, medium temp). The steak was AWESOME---really flavorful, tenderized, very good. The fries however, were brittle and awkward (had to use hands again). For desert, the bread pudding was fine, but overly sweet. Creme brulee was good. I didn't like that I had to use my hands so much for a fancy french dinner!

Mon Ami Gabi offered the ideal package for the perfect date night - Exquisite food, superb wine, and phenomenal service. My beautiful Lady and I had an amazingly wonderful fine dining evening. Our waiter, Tim, was a class act and wrote the book on service. Tim demonstrated the balance of confidence, knowledge, humility and quality service that fine diners seek. As we told Tim just before departing, he and Mon Ami Gabi, made our date night an absolutely wonderful experience. We will definitely go back!!

I booked this through OpenTable's Restaurant week options. I crossedchecked the FairfaxCounty website for Restaurant Week participation. I confirmed both. Upon arrival, I was told by the manager that the restaurant does not participate. That is first misinformation. I ordered the steak frite -au poivre. I got a weird thin piece of steak, cooked as ordered, but doused in a thin french sauce with clumps of coarse pepper thrown on. Who cooked this? Steak au Poivre is not just a steak doused with sauce and with crushed pepper- please do not misrepresent the offering! Julia Child would turn in her grave... Service was top notch but food, and the misinformation around restaurant week participation, were huge minuses. I don't recommend it.

Having spent 2 weeks in France recently, I may be holding this restaurant to an unfairly high standard, but it clearly has good and bad points. Positive: very good and reasonably priced wine selection; very good steak frites; great bread. Negative: too loud; chicken liver mousse had great texture but not great flavor; desserts are touted ("we have our own pastry chef") but the peach tart special and bananas foster crepe were bland; blackberry sorbet was excellent; service was mixed, at times great. then lacking. For example we asked for a second bottle of wine to be brought with our entrees. When the entrees were served, our wine server was nowhere to be seen and totally forgot about our order. Overall good but still needs tweaking.

This was our first visit to Mon Ami Gabi but it won't be our last. We went for my wife's birthday and shared the Chilled Seafood Platter and Peach Melba for desert. We enjoyed our evening and the food and service, but now we have to go back to try the steak and "frites". Our server was attentive and friendly and the free parking at the garage was a bonus.

Food was steady as it goes. Service was way off. Waiter took 10 min. to serve water. When told we were 4 people and that there were 2 missing place settings - it took 30 minutes and a 2nd asking for him to procure the place settings. Needed to go in and ask another waiter to find him and take our drink orders then again when we were done with those we needed to ask another waiter to find him. The restaurant could have definitely made more money from our table if only the service would have been adequate.
