  • My favorite RTC restaurant

Mon Ami consistently offers the best food in the RTC. I've never eaten anything there I haven't enjoyed. I love the smoked salmon appetizer; the crème fraiche is a delicious addition. The seafood crepes are absolutely delicious and my personal favorite if you don't mind a rich dish. I've had a lot of the seafood and fish dishes. The only one I wouldn't order again is the Lobster Roll. It was good, but not as good as the one I get at another of my favorite local restaurants. My husband loves all of the steaks. The service is great and it is a vibrant, fun atmosphere. It is a little loud- typical of a French Brasserie. My only suggestion is that they soften the butter before serving it with the yummy baguette.

As usual he food and ambience are the best we were seated at a less than good table. The manager did offer to move us, but our food had already been served. Not a big deal, but the manager called the next day to apologize and tell me that he noted our future seats preferences will be noted and applied to future reservations. That rocks in my book.

We dined at Mon Ami Gabi in Reston Monday October 13, and the experience was disappointing. The consistency and the skate wing and flavor were disappointing, could not taste the chicken in the chicken sandwich, and the quiche was underwhelming. We had dinned before at the Bethesda location and liked very much. I’m not sure if it was an off weekend.

My mom and sisters met for lunch on weekday holiday. We had a nice time, our waiter was good, the food was very good and we all enjoyed our meal. For apps, we had the squash soup special - deliciously flavorful and distinct, the country pate - pretty good, but I was looking for a more European taste, French onion soup - not sure, but mom seemed to really enjoy it, escargot - delicious. For main dishes, we had the seafood crepe - very good, waffles w/blueberries - delicious, cheeseburger - tasted good, but a bit dry, and the chicken/mushroom crepe - very good and quite filling (no starter next time!). Our server was professional, polite and did a good job.

We went on a Sat afternoon for lunch... Hubby & I shared/enjoyed a half order of mussels - they were decent sized & broth was very tasty for a basic traditional style. Loved my seafood crepe served w/peas & a light-colored creamy sauce, which turned out to be more filling than I thought. Hubby had the Blueberry French Toast and he was thoroughly overjoyed w/his meal. Our mini baguette was warm and the butter was perfect for spreading. Our coffees were just right and we had the best table in the whole place and is my favorite. Elmer was our server and he was wonderful - professional, polite, very knowledgeable of menu items and all the specials, and he took great care of us without hovering or being pushy.

It was a beautiful evening woth a little chill in the air so sitting outside br Y a heater was so perfect. We ordered a beautiful bottle of Bordeaux Superieur that was delicious and we had the escargots, scallops gratinees and mussels as well as the fries. Everything was perfect from the food to the service? Our server was knowledgeable about wine and recommended the wine that was perfect. Very nice experience.

Two of our party (of 3) had the steak, one had trout. None were disappointed. What makes this steakhouse a French one are the sauces that go on the steaks. Mine steak was a little stringy, but had great flavor. There is a good variety on the menu besides steak: chicken, fish, shellfish too. We will return! BTW, you must have reservations on Friday nights unless you don't mind waiting.

We had guests from out of town who wanted to take us out for Sunday brunch. One of us had the French toast & the other three had two of the three variations on eggs benedict (salmon, Canadian bacon, steak). All were very nicely presented and delicious. For brunch, the place was full, so reservations are necessary, maybe more so in good weather. We will definitely return for brunch or dinner, maybe lunch too.

My family and I went to Mon Ami Gabi in Reston on 9/28/14 to celebrate a birthday. We had requested a round table in the corner as we had elderly folks with us who are hard of hearing. They obliged with the table which was wonderful for us as everyone could hear the conversation. The service was incredible! Our waitress was very understanding and extremely professional. The food was delicious - we all got different specials (grilled brie sandwich and eggs benedict with short ribs) and everyone was very happy. We didn't partake, but they have a bloody mary bar which looked fun.

Mon Ami is one of my favorite restaurants and a great "go-to" when my college daughter was back in town it was the only place she wanted to go. The mussels were perfect. Steak frites (mine was a salad instead of the frites) was perfect. The service is nicely balanced - around when you need them but not too much.

This has been our special occasion restaurant for the past two years. The service has improved greatly over our first visit, but continues to be awkward. This time around our server was friendly and attentive, but we were definitely pushed out. I can only think it was because we had our 5 year old daughter with us (who is a great restaurant goer and rarely misbehaves). The food is what brings us back. The steak frites is the only way to go. The fries themselves are unique. Very thin, crisp, and flavorful. Somewhere between a french fried and a potato chip. I've never had them like this anywhere else, and they're great. Steaks are always cooks correctly and the various sauces are done very well. Certainly will be back.

We have been to Mon Ami many times and the food has always been excellent. The service Saturday night was very good which is usually the case. The only problem I have with the restaurant is that it is very noisy and apparently there is not a quiet spot anyplace. I had requested a quiet corner table if available. We were given a lovely corner table but in spite of that we could barely hear each other speak. I'm sure we will go there again but not as frequently as some other restaurants.

I try and reserve my 4 and 5 star-rating for places that are superb. I really do enjoy eating at Mon Ami Gabi, but I've found that the more I go the more I feel the food is good and not great. I would absolutely recommend anyone to give this restaurant a whirl. I've never been disappointed, but I've never been blown away either. I will say that on this particular visit, I was a bit disappointed at how tough the halibut (their "special" item for the night) was.

While the food here is always "good", the service is always superior and I dine here often, the same dish ordered on different days for lunch or dinner is never cooked consistently to perfection. For example, trout almondine arrives one day dry, over cooked, no almonds, no brown butter sauce, limp green beans. Next time, (after intervening orders of varying quality), perfection- moist, topped with toasted almonds, warm and juicy. I have found this to be the case with other menu items. Chef needs to keep a tighter rein.

From start to finish the lunch experience was awful. I accidentally made the reservation for two instead of five, so it took a bit of time to put a table together for our party....this is totally understandable. Once we were seated, we waited 15 minutes for a server to arrive, but nobody showed up. Someone from our party finally went to the server station to ask for a waiter. Needless to say, things went downhill from there. A long wait for the food, the check, nothing went right.

Actually, not so impressed. It's a chain and the one is Bethesda is far better. I had a lobster shell and waxed paper in the last few bites of my Lobster Roll. I told the wait staff, and he said he'd mention it to the chef. Normally, that would be an apology, at minimum, from the manager. I did not chip my tooth, nor did I swallow the lobster shell or wax paper...but it's completely unacceptable. I don't even get lobster shell or wax paper into my lobster rolls when I make them at home.
