We were in Chicago for a quick meeting but our hotel was at the airport. We decided we shouldn't pass on an opportunity to dine at Mon Ami Gabi since it had been recommended the last time we visited but couldn't fit it into our schedule. The service was terrific, thank you Denise; the wine list was very good and the food was fantastic. The ambiance was perfect, lively but not too loud. We will return.

After all these years, this place still maintains its charm and its vibe. This past clvisit the food was surprisingly just so so. The shrimp cocktail was great but the steak with bernaise was tough. The filet would have been a better choice. The accompanying "frites" aren't what you find in any Parisian cafe but instead little potato shards. The side of green beans had no flavor. I've had great meals here but this wasn't one of them. The hostess was charming and the waiter was oerfectly attentive. The service falls short with the bus staff who kept wanting to clear before we were done and then were brusque when they did clear. Still it's a pleasant dining experience in a charming setting and we will be back.

I always have a great experience at Mon Ami Gabi. the staff is wonderful. We didn't like the wine that we selected and the waiter opened a new bottle for us at no extra charge. Because I am a frequent diner there, the maitre d sent a special appetizer and dessert. Mon Ami never disappoints and is always top notch.

There was never a moment where the staff did not make us feel welcome and go the extra mile to make our dining experience special. We were greeted with a "Happy Birthday" and received special birthday treatment the moment we sat down. Denise was an absolute delight! Escargot and mousse were noteable; seafood platter had a little less seafood than could fill two people. Recommend as a starter, not as a main entree.

I've been a long time customer at Mon Ami and I hate to say this but the quality of food changed dramatically. The bouillabaisse was served on a flat plate and the brooth lacked flavor. So not only get the soup get cold fast but it was not savory. I still love the staff and atmosphere at Mon Ami; Just bring the old chef and menu back.

My husband and I were visiting Chicago during our 25th wedding anniversary. After reading reviews about Mon Ami Gabi online, we decided to give it a try. It was an outstanding dining experience with wonderful service, romantic outdoor dining, a great wine list and delicious food. We were quite surprised to receive a complimentary dessert at the end of our meal because they knew it was our anniversary. We will definitely visit this restaurant again the next time we are in Chicago!

I went for the 2014 Rosh Hashanah dinner and was really impressed. I was joined with a guest who has grown up with wonderfully home prepared holiday meals. They were very surprised to find the kitchen at Mon Ami presented the traditional fare in a manner that was up to par with a Jewish Grandmother. Maybe we were there on an off night. We had the Tomato Salad which was pulverized with too much salt. My girlfriend had the Classic Steak, which was good. I had the Beef Wellington which was one tough cut of meat. If you're going to pay over $30 for a piece of meat you shouldn't have to saw through it. A good steak should cut in a few strokes. Kind of disappointing.

Food aside it is a very nice place to meet up for drinks, maybe appetizers, but based off the meal I had I would not go back for dinner. Outstanding service. Really top notch. Food? Meh.

I have always enjoyed Mon Ami Gabi but hadn't been there in awhile due to parking challenges. Decided to bring a friend there for a special occasion & was looking forward to it. I ordered Skate fish & a side dish of mushrooms. I am a vegetarian who eats fish so I eat fish often-- this was a first life experience to run across one so poorly cooked that I left more than half on my plate. It was totally unseasoned & browned to a crisp outside with an odd texture inside. The mushrooms were not even warm, seemed as if they had been sitting out awhile. The salad my friend ordered was the best part. Not sure if it was an off-nite for the chef or what but I would not return there again. Terribly disappointing!

Host made a point he was doing us a favor by arranging a table for two that may have otherwise been used for four. Our reservation was for a 6pm seating and only a 1/4, if that, of the tables were in use. Wife's fish and hariot vert were overcooked. My ribeye steak was cooked perfectly but had too much gristle. The server, Diane (I think), was excellent.

Don't get me wrong, the food was good. Honestly, the real issue is the space and the service when they are busy. I had a reservation and they sat me in a timely manner, but I specifically mentioned that I'd rather not be near the bar. They placed us right by it, which meant people bumping into my girlfriends chair consistently for the first hour we were there. (On her birthday) The waiter was nice, but he wasn't really around to take care of the table unless he was doing his rounds, but even then, he would check on the tables next to us and walk away, which meant I had to call out to him for his attention. I spent 180 dollars that night and could have gone somewhere where they actually cared about service... My mistake...

Mon Ami Gabi is not new or original but it is authentic in capturing the French bistro one might find in any neighborhood in Paris, right down to the menu. The seafood the night we dined was A-1; skate, trout, cod all in classic preparations francaise. The place was packed and still service was good. And while you are there enjoy the lobby shared by MAG and L2O, possibly the finest restaurant in Chicago, and among the best in the world, but that's a different review.

Mon Ami Gabi is a reliable spot for a pleasant dinner of the French variety. The menu is varied and the service is very good. The atmosphere is lovely. The French bread is warm and served in a bag. The chicken liver mousse had the consistency of a pate and was good, the gazpacho which was a special for the night was incredibly good. The rest of the meal disappointed. My husband had the pounded cod in bread crumbs and parmesan cheese, and said it was not as good as the fish at Culver's. I had the Salad Nicoise with a seared tuna steak. The potatoes did not taste good, the green beens were wilted, they should have been crunchy and fresh, the required anchovies were missing, the Tuna had some spicing on it that added nothing to the overall flavor, and the tuna had no flavor. It wasn't fresh enough. The profiterole crust was soggy.

Why have we not tried this before? OK, so the decor is très chic and the wait staff knowledgable. Surprise, the menu comes and prices are reasonable. But the food? Magnifique. Best escargot we've ever tasted. Fresh, bright and pass that crusty French bread because there might be some sauce to sop up. Scallops with poached red peppers - perfection. Crusted cod was spot on- great crunch without a heavy oily aftertaste. The touted frites were good not great, so perhaps our batch fell a bit short. And for dessert a profiterole with large shell crust over ice cream and a velvety chocolate sauce poured table side. Great place to linger and we'll be back.

The decoration is very faithful to Paris atmosphere. Bread and food very good. Their specialty is steak with French fries, with a large choice of sauces.
