Fare is consistently very good...the steaks are very good, the frites are excellent, the fresh seafood is very good, salade frisee is excellent and everything else we've tried is very good or excellent. We have been to Mon Ami Gabi before and enjoy the food. (The wine list is great as well.) Service is always top notch. For this dinner, things were no different.
However, as we left the restaurant, I left my sunglasses on the table. Since it was evening, I didn't realize it until the next morning. I was upset in part because the sunglasses are functional, look great, and expensive. But I was most upset because they were a gift from a couple of birthdays ago. I treat them as such - an expensive gift - but in a moment of carelessness, they were gone.

Our waiter was attentive and he was there to refill water glasses and see if we wanted anything else, but he didn't hover. It was the most busy restaurant on the street, but we were seated immediately. Nice wine list, and enough choices on the "by-the-glass" menu. Steak Frites was enough for two if you order a starter. The beef was a tad chewy, I needed the steak knife, but it was very flavorful and cooked exactly as I ordered it. My companion ordered the halibut special and it was completely delicious. The service was superlative, and can best be described in the words of our waiter, Greg. When one guest asked if she could have something different than on the menu, he told her he could do whatever she wanted, then asked what it was. And he followed through. It was the best service I have ever had at any Mother's Day brunch. My daughter had the mushroom crepe and loved it. The ambience was great. The only problem was the noise level. Our waiter, Tony, was terrific - attentive without hovering too much - and the food was delicious. We particularly liked the onion soup, the scallops appetizer (enough for a small entree), the garlicky escargots, and the chicken and mushrooms crepe.
