I was originally seated next to an outside door. The temp outside was about 25. I asked to be moved after sitting there for at least 10 minutes while waiting for my dining companion to arrive because my ankles and feet were frozen and was. About 5 minutes later my dining companion came to the table. He had also been at the restaurant for a while, at least 15 minutes - and, with the same reservation information, been seated at a different table. Our meal was delicious, The staff was good and did meet all of our requests. I still would like to know why - with a reservation made on open table that we both knew about and told the Host/Hostess and both knew was made in my name - we were seated at different tables and , until my dinner companion saw me. we were not connected. I think it would be very wise to make sure if 2 people arrive, have a reservation in the same name - it would be a really good idea to seat them at the same table!!....And, when it is 25 degrees outside, DO NOT SEAT anyone who has made a reservation beforehand next to the doors that open to the outside. Really great meal .......

I'm always very happy to eat at Mon Ami Gabi maybe a few times a year. The place has a first-rate routine service that includes terrific bread with unusual carrot or other spreads before you order your food. I generally have a beer and the standard steak & frites with maybe a green vegetable as a side dish. The price is moderate. The noise level is more than moderate but I don't really mind -- but my wife says it's too noisy for comfort.

  • Not a big fan of the Bethesda location
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009VIP

I much prefer the Reston Mon Ami Gabi location over Bethesda. Convenience and no-cost parking initially played a big factor in my preference of Reston over Bethesda. There was the issue with an over-cooked hangar steak followed by the over-zealous wait staff attempting and then ultimately removing a plate full of frites without approval. The manager, however, more than made up for it by comping dessert for all 4 people in our party as well as removing the hangar steak from our check! They definitely know how to right a wrong - impressive!

Came here for brunch with some friends who live in the area and recommended the restaurant. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, especially since we had a baby in a stroller with us. Overall great food and atmosphere. The only issue was service was ok. When the waiter took our brunch order he didn't ask if we wanted drinks and we had to find him to put in our order. It was busy but not so much that asking what we wanted to drink was an extra effort. Would definitely come back if I'm in bethesda again. Service is also a bit slow. May have been because the place was busy but seemed difficult to track down our waiter when we needed anything.

Wee hit a busy Thursday night with a private party and all the waiter attention was to that party. They were more interested in getting tables back into the room that held the party than in serving their customers. 3 of the 5 people with us received food that was cold. It was difficult to get a waiter's attention for butter of anything else. This was a disappointing experience at an otherwise reliable restaurant!

I met with my brother and sister to catch up as we live in different parts of the country and don't see each other very often. Mon Ami Gabi is a beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere. It's a moderately priced restaurant enabling the preservation of class they attract. Our waiter was very good, he was well educated on the menu and could provide personal recommendations with ease. He gave us free desserts on the house! The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced. I had a glass of Pinot Noir that was on special that evening and it was great! As a chef in downtown Washington DC I though there were some really good menu items that displayed true craftsmanship and originality. The salmon tartare had some wonderfully paired components and is a dish I would highly recommend. Don't mistake it for Tuna Tartare as the Salmon gave the dish a more "fishy" taste for those of you who aren't familiar with the flavor profiling of certain seafood items. The housemade pate was a great dish as well. It was a nice presentation of some different flavors and textures put together very well. Aside from the appetizers the steak frites were less than ordinary. they lacked tenderness at medium rare and I wouldn't quite recommend it although the au poivre sauce was robust and was rich on the pallet. I would certainly go back and try the filet or NY strip. The chef certainly knows what he is doing and I have great respect for what he has at Mon Ami Gabi. I will be back for sure!

I eat regularly at Mon Ami Gabi so I must like it. But the other night I had hardly put the fork down before the bus person grabbed my plate away. I wasn't done but I figured I did not need any more frites. But then he tried to take my coffee cup before I was done. I had to draw the line there. How about some training, my friend Gabi.

The ambience is classic French bistro. The menu is reasonable but..... The steak was not up to French bistro standards (yes... I have eaten at Classic French bistros IN FRANCE).... I returned my first steak because it was far from medium rare. The waiter was not pleased and when my new steak arrived, it was barely improved. This is because the steak (classic) is too thin a cut. Otherwise the food was acceptable.

We recently celebrated my wife's birthday and had an amazing experience! It's become almost comical, but we venture to Bethesda row each time meaning to try a new place out. However, we keep returning to Mon Ami Gabi! This place is special, and it begins with the top notch and knowledgeable waiters. They are the secret sauce of this place and from what we learned are trained very well. Excellent investment on the part of this restaurant. The steak and frites are the best, and paired with a great wine, you have a winning combination. We LOVE this place and continue to return time after time. Don't change a thing, keep investing in your people. Highly recommend this place, you won't be dissapointed!

This must have been our 10 th time to Mon Ami Gabi. Every time the food has been great and the service excellent. We normally combine it with the movies next door, and they have always been quick to seat us and the food comes fast. Last night, my first bite or two of my steak showed it was not as hot as it should have been, so they responded very fast and brought me a new steak, not just the old one warmed up. Their steaks are the best we know-- better than in France!
