We routinely go to this neighborhood restaurant and consider it a good stand by. Not quite fit for foodies but the quality and preparation of the food is consistently good. Good place for experiencing something of a "french bistro" atmosphere. Service is friendly and attentive. Best to go on a day/time when sitting outside is possible.

Our party of four was accommodated in a quiet part of the restaurant which was very much appreciated due to hearing difficulties on the part of two of our group. The meal was excellent; we all enjoyed the very delicious gazpacho, a banner offering here, and various crepes -- seafood, chicken and mushroom, and ham and cheese, and we were all in agreement that the dishes were very good. Service started out being quite attentive and timely but tapered off to the point where I had to go hunting for the waitress and dealing with the reception to finish our transaction.

Dining at MAG is always a lovely experience. The wait staff can be excellent to outstanding; they never rush you and are very willing to accommodate your pace and schedule. The food is very good and sometimes excellent. I like the ambiance and the availability of very pleasant outdoor dining is always a plus. Because it can be perfect for such different occasions, it really is my favorite Bethesda restaurant.

Hot & muggy inside. Server forgot my iced tea. Water on table warm. Artic char was good but server said it came with sliced cucumber & I got radishes (don't care for them, would have told him to leave them off). Creme fraiche on plate was completely watery. Bread as always was excellent- best part of meal that night. Usually stay for dessert but too hot!

My husband and I enjoyed a very pleasant lunch outside facing Woodmont. The warm chicken and brie sandwich is delicious and so were the home made potato chips. The bread that is served first (ours was late; it came just when the lunch arrived) is warm and mouthwatering, and we took the remainder of it home in its bread bag. Very successful!

Mon Ami Gabe remains as one of Bethesda's most reliably good restaurants. The menu contains consistently good selections made with very fresh locally produced ingredients. The staff is very knowledgeable and always quite helpful. The wine selection provides a variety of offering that complement very well the restaurant's offerings. The most reliable in downtown Bethesda, MD.

$37 for a couple of not terribly substantial lamb chops? They weren't that great. The chicken liver pate was not recognizable as such by taste or appearance. I had the carmelized onions and red wine sauce over my steak - it was still a bit cold from having been made in advance, and was sweet, almost as if sugar had been added. Didn't care for it. For $180 for two people, we should have eaten much better than we did. Our server was great, and I've always liked the lively ambiance of MAG, but they need to do better.

Food is consistently good and the bread and slaw is a nice touch. We sat outside on the side and it was lovely. The only problem was our main courses came out too quickly as we were just done with our appetizer and the plates had not been cleared. Substituting a vegetable for the fries was easy. Also, the scallops could have used a little starch on the plate in addition to the red peppers.

One of our party was paralyzed on one side, and was in a wheel chair. She had asked to be seated outside, and we put this into Open Table's request. There was no problem unloading the folding wheelchair on Woodmont Avenue, the valet parking person was right there, there was a ramp over the curb at the pedestrian crosswalk, and the maitress D came out to get us, rather than having to go inside to meet her. I had worried that having a table right at the curb would be noisy and uncomfortable, but it was a great dining experience.

See below to understand why I could not rate. Alas, Open Table will not let me send you any observations w/o precise answers to what are, in this case, irrelevant questions. We normally enjoy and would highly rate this restaurant, btw. In retrospect, I realize that as the situation played out, we inadvertently stiffed the waiter...how can we make that right?

As usual the food at Mon Ami Gabi was excellent as was the glass of wine. Unfortunately I was seated on the outside of the table with my back to a very narrow passage way for the servers and I kept getting bumped as they walked by. Add to that the screaming child in the next room. This is the first time we have had unsatisfactory service. The hostess was very attentive and gracious but our server was not. The hostess had to bring us a check (the server seemed to go missing). There was an error on the Bill which the server offhandedly said not to worry about. We usually have excellent service at any Mon Ami Gabi. So this was a first.

The menu is trying to be French. The food is okay and the service in our case was a French waiter. They don't bug you but sometimes its hard to find your waiter. It reminds me of many cafe's in Paris except the tables are larger and the service is better. Food, about the same.

One of our favorite places in Bethesda. The steak/frites is great! One caution - if you do sit outside, avoid the side. Too close to the bright lights of the movie theater and if you are by the door, a thoroughfare for the waiters!

Outdoor seating was great. Good service. Inside it seemed loud. Food was good (salads were delicious, taratre was great, dover sole special was overcooked but not inedibly so). Frites were good, but not enough long frites (lots of mostly really short fry pieces). I'd recommend for the location and good food, but it is not exceptional. I'd really wish to rate this as 3.5 stars, not just 3.

My son and I went there to celebrate his birthday and it was perfect. Our server (Jillian) was friendly and offered us some great advice on the best dishes of the day. My son had the steak with Roquefort and said it was one of the best he's had in a long time. I had the seared scallops which were cooked to perfection. When we looked at the dessert menu, our server said the kitchen had made their flourless chocolate cake which used to be on the menu but now only occasionally. My son wasn't sure if it would be too heavy and considered the mousse and our server said she'd bring him the cake and if he didn't like it she'd take it back and bring the other. Suffice it to say it was AMAZING. The server & great food made it a special event.
