Molyvossummer business lunchwonderful fresh food, ideal for sharing, I've been here 3 times now and everytime it is wonderful.
staff are friendly and professional, the food is exquisite, simple, fresh and very tasty.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreek Music even more enjoyableThe Greek Music helped get a nice feeling being back in Greece at this cozy restaurant. Food was tasty but so small (definitely not family size...nor the prices). Great décor, service.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat findThe priced fixed meal available until 7:00 pm is a real value.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMJust like in Greecethe Food was great, I had the whole grilled Lavraki, very fresh, cooked to perfection, my guest had grilled baby octopus, delicious, we started with traditional spreads and Greek Salad amazing as well, the service was outstanding, we had this delightful young Greek waitress, fantastic wine recommendation. Definitely coming back.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMconsistently deliciousWe come here every time we visit NYC since we first learned of it over 10 years ago.. The food is always fabulous and there's no pretense on the part of the staff. They make and serve great Greek food in a simply sophisticated manner.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time we ate there forFirst time we ate there for brunch. Food was delicious. A nice brunch menu.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA FavoriteWhen in the Carnegie Hall vicinity we always head for Molyvos for a pre-concert dinner. The best grilled octopus anywhere!! The service is excellent, the lighting and calming color scheme perfect for relaxed dining, and the food outstanding.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMReliableWe go to Molyvos evey time we are in NYC - usually for late lunch sometimes early dinner. The food is interesting, fresh and reliable. They have a nice bar area which is great for day time especially with the open doors in the summer. The restaurant is quieter than most in NYC so we can hear each other without having to shout.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMREAL Greek food near Carnegie HallI've been to Molyvos three times and each time has been a winner. While some of the items on the menu are familiar, the level of finesse is so high you'll never want to go back to the greasy spoon places ever again. The staff were friendly, especially the maitre d'.
There are also Greek wines, some of which are made from indigenous grape varieties. Ask your wait-person for a recommendation to go with whatever you're ordering. You won't be disappointed.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMMolyvosThe food was excellent, the service superb. The only drawback was the ice tea. Served beautifully, in a tall glass with a long cinnamon stick and a slice of lemon, the taste was too bitter to tolerate for myself and another guest who arrived late and had no idea I had already returned mine. I would happily return to the restaurant, but I would stick to another choice for a drink.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAbove average pre-theater choiceMany menu options available for quick, but relaxed, pre-theater dining.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOOOpaWhat a little gem so close to theatre, making lunch before a matinee a real treat. Comfortable surroundings and attentive staff are the underpinnings of a great meal. The chopped salad with octopus was a real hit.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMUtterly delicious! The foodUtterly delicious! The food is outstanding, and we were magically transported from midtown to the Greek Isles! Always one of our favorites.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and priceThe food is amazing, If you enjoy flavorful foof, look no further. They have a tasty menu: we ordered the stuffed red pepper, and the grilled lamb. Both dishes were full of flavor and perfectly moist. Outstanding, They get 4 stars becasue their service is just OK. They could do better at ensuring our table is satisfied, we had to wait to get the waiter's attention, even though the restaurant was relatively empty. Also wait staff should not reach across people to place orders on a table of to fill water. Small deatils that took their service down a knotch.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time visitormade the reservation based on a recommendation from a co-worker. Could not have been a better recommendation. Will definitely visit again!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite near Carnegie HallWe had our third brunch at Molyvos, and it was again delightful. We are planning another visit soon.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious! TheThe food was delicious! The service was polite, available if we needed them, but not overly indulgent. And the noise level was quiet enough to have a conversation in a normal speaking tone. I would definitely go again.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter theater dining was justAfter theater dining was just right. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. Not at all noisy...relaxing and informal but very nice (white tablecloths) with friendly, efficient service.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Fresh fish!Excellent as always, especially the fine selection of fresh fish on ice!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLiked it enough to come back . . .Hii - I was in for dinner c. 11;00 PM Thursday, 17 May 2013
Food, ambience, service, and waiter were excellent. This was my second time there with a different guest and it was a result of my first visit with other guests that I came back. Thank you.
Brian5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent greek food and winesThe quality of the food and wine is outstanding. An amazing wine list, a remarkably authentic menu of greek food. An excellent way to enjoy Molyvos is to order a range of appetizers for the table along with a spectrum of their wines. Service is unobtrusive, but attentive and excellent. They can provide knowledgable advice for those not familiar with Greek wines - there are some really fine ones. The grilled octopus is beautiful.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBefore Carnegic Hall...there's no place better! Molyvos is an old reliable for me. I know I'll have a fine meal with excellent Greek wine at a very reasonable price. I do miss the lamb ravioli but there are other wonders on the menu that are equally fine. The chef came out at one point and was smiling. This is always a good sign. Molyvos has a happy buzz that really appeals to me. I'll always go back to this one!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMSuper soft shell crabsWe're glad we were able to have the crabs as the season for them is so short. The bread pudding was a perfect finale for the dinner.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEven better than the last visitMy dinner at Molyvos in January was so good, I brought my wife on my next trip to NY in May. She was equally impressed. The highlight for my wife was the grilled octopus appetizer. For me it was the roasted sweetbreads special. We also enjoyed very much the beet/bean salad and the swordfish special. A fine bottle of Kir-Yianni xinomavro matched perfectly. Service was timely and the wine recommendations were excellent.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA Lovely Dining ExperienceFrom the expert service to the delicious food, this is one of my favorite Greek restaurants. We were a party of 4 and everyone loved their lunch. They have a pre-fix $25 3 course meal that is unbeatable. There is something for everyone to eat here. The baklava is a must for dessert.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful and reliablePerfect for pre- or post City Center and Carnegie Hall dining, I've been dining here for years and the food and service have remained at a very high level. The recent interior renovation has made the space look brighter but still manages to offer a quieter ambiance than many other restaurants in the area. I believe the room can accommodate larger groups as well as intimate dinners for two.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently delicious!Order the lavraki and the pitzarea gigantes (bean salad)...you won't be disappointed.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMgood food that is not on everygood food that is not on every menu. great prix fixe ealy evening. abh5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreek SupremeIf you enjoy Greek cuisine, this is the place to go. Equally, the Greek wine list can't be beat and the staff is extremely helpful to assist at your price point. Definitely would return.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreekIf you like Greek food and are looking in Midtown West, Molyvos is a good choice. The menu is fine, with a decent amount of variety, though in keeping with Greek tradition, it's a bit on the lamb-centric side.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting Choices, Good QualityWe had dinner before a show. The service was professional and not obtrusive. There is an interesting selection of beers including drafts as well as a nice Greek wine list. The food choices nicely accommodated the vegetarian with a creative stuffed pepper meal and the meat dish had tender lamb falling off the bone. The crowd was fairly senior, the prices were more than you might expect, the restaurant busy (this took a little away from the ambience) and were were seated very close to other dinners. I'm inspired to taste and prepare new foods based on this visit.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Pre-Theater Dinner! Our reservations were for 6:30 and we were able to order the Prix Fixe dinner. The choices were very good and the food was
excellent! Great place to go before Carnegie Hall!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for ticketholders forGreat for ticketholders for City Center and Carnegie hall.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMolyvos presented a wide varietyMolyvos presented a wide variety of classic and modern Greek dishes; I believe there is something for everyone to be found on their menu. I was pleased to find some wines from Greece that were dry, delicious and served at a perfect temperature.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFor Fans of FishThe octopus appetizer alone is reason to dine at Molyvos. The entrees are great too. I've had the lamb chops in the past and this most recent visit my girlfriend and I had pink salmon and black sea bass. Both were excellent.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe typically don't frequentWe typically don't frequent Greek restaurants because I am Greek and I cook Greek food at home but we went for a traditional Easter dinner and the food was delicious. Often Greek restauarant food is overpriced, heavy and mediocre but Molyvos is an exception. The pre-fix Easter dinner was well worth the price. The meze of Glykadakia, sautéed sweetbreads, was flavorful, the traditional Easter soup, Magiritsa, was light with a refreshing lemon and egg finish. The lamb, with artichokes and fava beans, were cooked perfectly. Dessert, Galaktoboureko, which is semolina custard wrapped in phyllo, can be tough and sticky but it was exceptional; crisp and light.
Our server was not too personable, but acceptable nevertheless. Highly recommended.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasant service, fine foodWe took advantage of the pre-theater menu. The garlic soup was delicious. Those of us who got the salmon brochette as a main course were very encouraged when the server asked how we wanted the fish cooked and sure enough it was delivered just as ordered, not dry as fish skewers tend to be. The roast chicken was boned except for the wing with crispy skin - very nice. The wine list is of Greek wines only and the server was very helpful in choosing a bottle. We were dining with friends we hadn't seen in a while and were particularly grateful that were were not hurried out or made to feel uncomfortable for lingering to talk. We all had a delightful time.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicately prepared food withDelicately prepared food with outstanding flavors, truly delicious with attentive but unobtrusive service. Definite 5 stars!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food, Accommodating ServiceHad an early Monday evening dinner here with 2 out-of-town colleagues. We each chose the prix-fixe dinner. The food was very good as was the service. I had requested a quiet table (if possible) for this business dinner, and the restaurant provided us with an excellent table at the back of the restaurant where it was quieter but not isolated. Overall a very good experience4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat before theatre menu!Great before theatre menu! Pleasant attentive waitress. Best Greek salad in a long time.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were great.Food and service were great. Good pre theater dinner in a relaxing atmosphere away from the Times Square maddness4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the food, and theI loved the food, and the service was attentive and helpful. I will certainly be back.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA gem of Greek diningI came here years ago and then came back the next night again. 5 years later, it was the destination dining spot of our visit to NYC. Tasted Greek wines I never would even find back home and the food is always superb.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWow a great place. We wereWow a great place. We were amazed. The food, everything we ate, was wonderful.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service, fine GreekExcellent service, fine Greek food, pleasant ambiance. Would be happy to go again.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed a great dinnerWe enjoyed a great dinner after a matinee of little plates. We especially liked the lamb and pork sausage, hummus, grilled octopus and the great pita bread. They had a good list of glasses of wine and our waiter recommended the perfect Greek wine to add to our meal. The service was great and we will return.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is one of my favoriteThis is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I have a number of friends with food-allergies, and the simple preparations (of extremely high-quality ingredients) mean they can eat delicious food without being nervous about their health. It's reasonably quiet, meaning I can actually have a conversation with the people I'm eating with (amazing!). The staff is pleasant, and even the decaf is good.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Greek food and freshExcellent Greek food and fresh fish.
Outstanding chocolate baklava !4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellence near Carnegie HallAlways a perfect experience. I continue to love Molyvos!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMLocation, location! We went to Molyvos on the recommendation of a friend who lives in the city. Since we were going to Carnegie Hall the location was perfect and rivaled only by the quality of the food. My husband and I both had fish which was prepared beautifully and tasted great. We plan to return even when we are not going to carnegie Hall.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
